Same for children from middle class Indian families. Back then all our toys were simple articles lying around 😂

I remember when my favorite brick truck was broken by my brother. I spent the whole afternoon searching for worthy replacement. To date I’m not at peace.

I'm 25 and when I was a kid, brick cars were already outdated but I played with them until I was like 7. We didn't smash cars, but we'd make like a city.. there's the hospital.. that's the garage (gas station).. the grocery store. Most fun I will ever have. Bytheway I live very far from where Trevor grew up, I'm from Durban

It's funny how he said "you strike a woman you strike a rock". That saying is so entrenched in me. As a South African born in 85 my mom was a fierce freedom fighter, arrested multiple times and shot at too. And in my family (very matriarchal), that saying is something we all know and understand

Trevor's food thing hits so deep. I'm a coloured South African as well, and my mom "infected" my sister and I with this idea of always having enough food. We're affluent now, compared to most, but I will still panic if my pantry isn't super-stocked. I don't even eat much, but I could feed an army. I must always have too much. Coz, back in the day, food was a luxury. its crazy.

Food fights, yep. That was outrageous for me too, as an Asian kid in Asia (which is probably a different experience from Asian Americans.) My mom would always say “What a waste! Don’t ever do that.” Or something similar when we saw food fights on TV. 😂

That true, in urban South Africa with those face bricks. In the rurals we made our own toys with clay, cars, cattle, whatever. Leave them in fire overnight, it would be rock hard in the morning.

The food games also get to me, big time or food eating competitions. That and bullying is normalised in movies, but actually, globally, it's not normal.

Why on earth would it be mind blowing? It’s a language derived from Dutch from the white settlers who were predominantly Dutch, it’s mind blowing that you’d find it mind blowing, because it’s pretty logical and obvious.
