I'm with you guys on those old-school video game experiences. Loved opening up those manuals on the way home, reading them over and over. I also printed out Gamefaqs, specifically for Baldur's Gate I & II. What's wild when I think about it now is that my dad gladly photocopied the huge Final Fantasy 3 (for the SNES) guidebook at his work office for my and my brothers.

30 mins in and this my first episode. Totally vibe with Brodin as a nerdy bay area millennial seems like we all had the same experience man. Going into grandpas room when I'm over so I can watch Adult Swim, discovering Shonen jump at the grocery store, using street lights for gaming, selling pokemon cards and cheat codes. Geez none of my irl friends are nerdy enough to reminisce with like this so this is pretty cool

"I think there was filler in Boruto..." BRO! That is the most understated statement of all anime time. The first 100 episodes of the series was 100% ALL recap of the final episodes of Naruto Shippuuden, the movie with Boruto, and filler. There was no new content. The entire show concluded with what felt like a single short arc of actual new action content. EDIT- Naruto did lose his arm as well, which they get into in Boruto, but he uses ninja technology where Sasuke does not, as mentioned, as an act of repentance and to remember. Also, it was not laser Disc that lost out to Blu-Ray, as Brodin said, it was HD-DVD. HD-DVD was the more superior technology at the time, and was much more friendly to consumers, but Bluray had the more powerful licensing rights holders who were able to force the less consumer-friendly format onto us. I am happy that streaming has all but ended Bluray.

The webtoon: Love Advice from the Great Duke of Hell is really funny and is worth checking out. Basic premise - kid summons demon to get love advice

Enjoyed the episode as per usual Random Recommendations for anyone reading comments! Navillera:Like a Butterfly (56 + 11 chps) - First off, it's completed which is a huge plus. This is a story of a 70 year old attempting to fulfill a small dream of his to learn ballet. A very unique story that ends beautifully and tugs at the heartstrings the whole way. It also has a tv adaptation on netflix if that's more your thing. Highly recommend it giving it a shot. L.A.G (106 chps) - This is basically a death game story with super powers. Room after room of fucked up challenges and creatures. It's not really special but it's an enjoyable read if you enjoy that sort of thing. Notably there's two translations of this and one is a LOT better than the other but behind in chapters. Eternally Regressing Knight (6 chps) - The new series on the block about someone with no talent but can keep returning when he dies. It's All you need is Kill/Edge of tomorrow but in a fantasy setting. It's promising if you enjoy that premise even if it's not original. Hope it doesn't fall off. Wailing Perversion (40 chps) - Ok the title sounds bad but I don't know if that's the actual title translation to be honest. This is a revenge story of a warrior cursed by a dragon and uses that power in pursuit of his revenge against basically gods.

Peter mentioned Blue Period being one of his favorites, and since it's also one of mine I'd like to recommend some manga that are quite similar in that "person pursuing a craft and discovering their passion for it, with well written characters and introspection" niche. Both of these series have beautiful art and a solid story setup despite being in their infancy. Short summaries cause I wanna let the stories speak for themselves: (Low chapter warning) Bless by Yukino Sonoyama: A boy who decides to pursue a career as a makeup artist despite people not approving/brushing off his talent. Umi ga Hashiru End Roll by John Tarachine: An old woman discovers her passion for cinema and decides that she wants to make her own film.

I think the thing Scarra is referring to around 1:20:00 are also called 2.5D plays (might be easier to search up with this term) and for any anime fans that visit japan, I've heard they're really awesome for an immersive homage to whatever material they're based on.

Recommendation for manga with similar vibes to Apothecary Diaries - A Bride's Story and Emma. Both are historical and have amazing artwork. Female main character with wits, but not super powers or magic. Ascendance of a Bookworm and Accomplishments of the Duke's Daughter might scratch that itch also.

Apothecary diaries has thematic and heroine tropes shared with Ascendance of a Bookworm which has 3 seasons of anime with a 4th coming, a manga and a finished Light novel series. It is one of the most popular light novels in Japan and it's almost all wholesome without fanservice or questionable thing.

Scarry mentioned it before that he liked watching original anime. I'd like to recommend Sonny Boy. Original anime that is loosely based on the drifting classroom, but is so unique and beautiful. And I need more people to talk about it. Keep up the good work guys

Highly highly reccomend Ooku if you like the setting of the Apothecary Diaries. The manga is finished and it's an underrated masterpeice. The story is more of an adult historical drama (also trigger warning).

Dont know if the dinosaurs boruto question got answered but basically Sasuke had his own story that involved dinosaurs named Sasuke retsuden. It did not deal with Boruto at all and is Sasukes own manga basically.

Recommendations for Apothecary Diaries fans is hard and really depends on what you like about the series If you're in it for the "Can you solve the mystery of the week before the MC can?" then I'd recommend something like ID: Invaded or the webtoon Melvina's Therapy If you're in it for the "Tired MC just tryna survive but somehow got involved with crazy bigshots" you're probably gonna get directed to the Villain(ous) genre (currently reading webtoon "The Tyrant Wants to be Good") Finally, while it might be a hopeless recommendation due to it's popularity, Oshi no Ko seems to scratch the same itches with the premise of SPOILERS "Genius MC with a niche profession while various conspiracies occur"

Fujimoto has a lot of one-shots because he could not handle keeping a part time job, he'd enter into manga competitions and use the money to buy instant ramen to feed himself. The one-shots are compiled in the 2-volume anthology "Tatsuki Fujimoto Before Chainsaw Man"

I didn't see anyone in the comments mention it but your Fire Emblem talk was a bit off in this episode. They didn't add Casual Mode (where units aren't perma dead) until Fire Emblem 12 on the DS (never released in English) and for the west it was Fire Emblem Awakening. Sacred Stones was Fire Emblem 8, so for Americans it wasn't until FE13 that they officially got rid of permadeath as an option.
