I did a lot of hack and squirt on my property last year. I did it by myself and I plan to do some more this year and years to come as a work in progress. One thing I noticed is the wood dried out really fast. I was surprised. It was like the herbicide (I used the mixture you recommended) “sucked” the moisture out of the trees. This year I have noticed an increase to plant life on the forest floor and I only expect it to get better as time passes.

No poults on my ground, but first population of turkey since I purchased it came in. 5 Jake's, and 4 hens. They're roosting next to the cabin. I haven't been mowing all of the grass, and noticing they are taking a liking to the seed heads, and insects calling the tall grass home. Hopefully as years progress they stick around, and the poults follow!

Getting a few random single hens on trail cams and zero poults in Kentucky. No groups of hens at all. Experiencing bad drought here and super hot temperatures.

I have a question for you and I know you don’t like my questions but I think it is a fair question. Do you think you could or have you ever turned public hunting land into a place that is as good or better than your farm? The only catch would be that you have to use the current laws and harvest rules of your state.
@GrowingDeerTV

Luke - as I assume you know, that's a very loose question but yes, there are many well managed public areas that produce great bucks.

When hack and squirting, is it a good idea to follow up and rehack the same trees as before maybe a year later?

How long until the leaves start falling off and won’t grow back ? I have done a girdle( one ring with a chainsaw) /chemical mix Garlon mixed with basil oil we definitely see a difference but the leaves didn’t fall off but they also don’t look healthy
@GrowingDeerTV

Pending on the tree species, Garlon can take a while to mobile throughout the tree.

Good morning, Here in NY on my farm we have a lot of thick honey suckle that grows as soon as you open the forest canopy. When it is small deer browse it. As it grows up above the deer it shads out the forest floor so nothing else grows. Honey suckle is not a native plant. What are your suggestions to control this woody brush?
@GrowingDeerTV
@GrowingDeerTV Жыл бұрын
Andrew - Bush Honeysuckle is a very invasive plant. It can be cut close to the ground and treated with a herbicide. I strongly recommend you treat it as it will continue to spread.
@andrewhinkley1723
@andrewhinkley1723 Жыл бұрын
@@GrowingDeerTV it has taken over many old farm fields, pastures and ever opening in the forest in this part of NY. Birds are the main spreader as they produce an abundance of seeds. In hedge rows I have pulled them out by the roots and it slows them down. Goats will control it if allowed to browse the young plants. What generic herbicide would you use?

In my state of Alabama when coins start falling over dead from rabies the state often steps in and applies rabies vaccine from aircraft. Do you think this is a good idea or not?

What chemical do you use for tree herbicide for hack and squirt?
