I started my first seedlings. 6 seeds to be exact. I salved some from my pickling and threw them in some damp paper towel. Lo and behold they germinated so I planted them today.

Yay. I transplanted a sugar snap pea right after last frost and got about 6 pods before the summer heat took over... it happens so fast lately, summer just started it's already 105 degrees in the Willamette Valley in Oregon... so my one pea plant seems to be done. Oh the 6 pods I got were so good, it's my favorite vegetable this year. So I'm happy to find out when the temperatures start to cool off, I'll be able to plant a lot more... September isn't so far away. Great tips! I'll be back to review when I have more peas than I can eat off my plants.

Hi Angela. I am Angela too. I was raised in Crossville Tennessee. Lived on large farm. Cows, pigs, chickens. We had rows and rows of green peas. We harvested 8 burlap sacks every season.

This is a very timely video and the content from cradle to grave is excellent! My wife asked me to grow more peas this year, so we're planting four different varieties of sweet peas, snow peas and sugar snap peas. My plan was to start some indoors and direct sow others. I want to see if there is any difference in growth and production.

Thank you very much for this info. I am planting peas every year at my place. The only way to grow them here is to seed them in seed trays first and then grow them at maximum height before planting them outside. The mice get rid of the seeds very quick when go directly from seeds. I find that it is a less problem planting them outside when they are mature enough in the trays, then planting them out in the garden, then sprinkle blood and bone about 300 mm away from the peas. Rabbits and mice don’t like the smell. That will keep them away for a while.You are right. Planting them directly from seeds without disturbing the roots, is the best way to do it.

Excellent video. My best garden was when I lived in Tempe AZ. I grew an 18 lb Napa cabbage once. 65°f all winter is perfect. Garlic grew very large. Tomatoes, beans, peppers, potatoes, cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, every thing grew excellent except corn had no kernels on the cops unless I hand pollinated the silks. I never could grow peas in TN so I did not try to grow peas in AZ. I moved back to TN can't grow peas here, maybe in a green house in winter.

I am thrilled to have discovered your channel tonight! I’ve been watching gardening videos for a couple of years now. Many of them are informative but yours are hands down the best. I love the way you show the whole process end to end and do so in under 10 minutes. I also get a lot of encouragement from how closely you approaches line up with conclusions I’ve distilled from all the other channels. I started last year with container gardening using starts. I was very late starting because of Covid so I ran out of growing season before most things bore fruit. I’m in 7b. This year I’m jumping in with both feet. I have 140 plants started indoors and 6 raised beds nearing completion that I will plant using square foot gardening. Please keep the videos coming to help me maximize my success.

I hope people check into planting of peas for a fall harvest too. You said you’re in a desert climate, but those in northern climates can plant peas for a spring and fall harvest. Would be good to mention that. I also try to use them as a natural nitrogen fertilizer source.

Thanks for the informative video. I planted both sugar snap peas and green peas. I forgot to label them. Both have white flowers. Is there a way to tell them apart? This is the first time I am growing these. Will sugar snap peas always remain flat as they age?

Snow peas will be larger and flat - sugar snaps will be smaller and thicker - if you try eating the pod of a shelling pea it will be fibrous. You'll be able to tell them apart pretty soon.

The roots decompose in the soil. You can plant something else right after. They add organic matter may help with adding nitrogen to the soil in some cases.

My sugar snap peas never make it out of the garden🥺 my kids grab ranch dip or dressing and eat them right out of garden. They even got their friends doing it to.😂.. They say it's better than chips n dip and love the super crunchy sound they made when they bite right into it. I wanna be sad n upset i can't get the peas in the house, but i love the kids having a healthy snack, the laughs and giggles with every crunch. Added bonus is now all the kids wanna grow them lol.. but i don't think any of them will make it to seed haha. I planted 12 plants thinking I'd have some for cooking but it never happens.

How do you irrigate for peas since they are planted 2 inch apart, i am thinking about 6 inch drip irrigation, do you think it would be enough.
