Hi Liz, thanks again for the informative video, most of my collection go into terracotta pots but I’m also a sucker for cute ceramic pots so my Korean succulents pretty much go into cute ceramic pots but unglazed inside. I only use one soil mix which is gritty made primarily of 70% inorganic mix,(Kanuma, akadama, ) and 30% organic like premium cactus soil mix with some worm casting added. All my succs goes into gritty mix except some miniature ones that goes into cococoir mix from Fat Plants. I’m hoping I will get mine to grow beautiful ones like yours. Because my collection is new, I put all of them in my greenhouse this winter with a space heater on most of the time. Tonight will be very cold here with temps on the low 10’s ( coldest Feb temp in 70 years) I hope my plants will be okay. Regards

Hello, thank you for the information. I’ve been reading different opinions/ways, regarding whether or not it’s okay to add Lava Rocks to the Pot before adding the potting Soil (specifically for Succulents). Can you please advise in your opinion if it’s a good idea or not to add Lava Rocks or any other Stones/Rocks to the planter prior to adding Succulent Soil? Thank you so much. J. Garcia
@GrowingSucculentswithLizK3 жыл бұрын
I find that adding rocks to the bottom of the pot promotes air circulation and also stabilizes the pot. This also stops the mesh from moving about exposing the hole and also prevents the soil from getting wash off.
@aholiviasmith84283 жыл бұрын
Hi Liz, thank you for the update. Some succulents came in mail with bare roots have a thick long root like a baby carrot. I cannot find a long small pot anywhere. Do you think I can chop it to make it fit in a shorter pot? otherwise I have to put it in a large pot...I heard I can trim hairy roots to fit in a pot but not sure with the thick long one.
@GrowingSucculentswithLizK3 жыл бұрын
You can coil them to make them fit like I did in my latest video "The owl and butterfly hearts arrangement." Or you can get a tall vase(with holes) to put it in as it look's like a plant that will require a tall pot if it has a long carrot like roots.

I have got mostly terracotta pots & last few days the succulent that are in side have gone very soft & soggy like they very wet but they are not. I do have heating on would this do the problem ? I also tried small white stones on top of soil could that be the problem ?

Soggy or soft leaves is usually a sign that the plants are dehydrated. When this happens, I usually give the whole pot a good soaking until they firm up to rehydrate them. Hope the video below helps. Cheers How To Water Dehydrated Succulents - kzbin.info/www/bejne/roW1h6Omp7imgpo

Being a big fan of bonsai as I am there is a trick to keeping the really small trees happy and healthy in their smaller pots and what i've seen them do is place the pot on top of a bigger pot and partially burry the base of the pot with soil. What this does is increases the surface soil area and allows for wicking moisture and keeping the plants roots cooler. I'm not an expert though so i'm not sure how what may effect the integrity of the roots if there are heavy rains.
@GrowingSucculentswithLizK3 жыл бұрын
I use to grow bonsai and have to give them up when I started going away for long time. Succulents can't be treated the same as standard Bonsais as they require a lot less watering but whatever I've learned before now I apply to succulents. Thanks for watching.

Hey Lizk How are you dear. I wonder what will happen with succulents if we use those Rice washed water or banana peals water as fertilizer. We use them on other vegetable gardens n it seems those fertilizer helps the plants. I have very very limited succulent collection so im afraid to do experiments with them. Have you ever tried such with succulents ?

I have used my rice water on my edible plants before but when it comes to banana peel, not too sure about that as most of them are sprayed with pesticide. Doesn't matter with succulents but they do attract gnats. I much prefer using Seamungus as it's quite inexpensive, easy to use and my succulents are loving it.

If you pull a baby away from the mother plant and it has its own roots, does it have to dry out before repotting?
@GrowingSucculentswithLizK3 жыл бұрын
Just let it callous off for a couple of hours then put it in your soil but don't water it for at least a week or two depending on the type of succulent.

I have one pretty pot and I paid $165 for it LOL and as a matter of fact it's empty 🤣🤣🤣 every morning I go in my plant room and I try to figure out what plant I want to put in it but none have jumped out at me yet not to mention it does not have a drainage hole and I'm not going to put one in it because I don't want to risk damaging it. But I use all terracotta on my mature plants and plastic on my nursery plants so I'm happy to see I'm doing something right LOL

@@juhn-welgula682 Agavoides are very strong plant. If it's in a big enough pot, I would just leave it there to grow for a while to acclimatize in its new location, then repot on a pretty pot after a month.

Not at all. We are in one of the worst place to grow succulents here in Australia. I have to grow the plants to suit our weather. Winter temperature can go down to -11°Celcius or 12°Fahrenheit with the occasional snow. Summer temperature can go as high as 45°Celcius or 113°Fahrenheit. In the past few months, we've also experienced a lot of rain and high humidity. Thanks for watching.
