Wow, lucky I found this video after a search & not sure why I missed it seeing as I’m a subscriber. 🤣 I’ve been looking for information on how to get more PVN babies because mine has put out some fresh flower stalks recently and I wasn’t sure how to propagate it! I put a question up in a succulent Facebook group but there were so many varied opinions I was stumped on how to proceed. Once it stops raining … hopefully tomorrow, I’ll be collecting all the young leaves off the flower stalks. I want a sea of PVN’s to plant into the ground in my front gardenReally appreciate your thorough & detailed information. Thank you so much Liz!

I'm so glad I found your channel! I've been a subscriber for a while now. I had bought a PVN from a local nursery here in Lake Charles, LA that I overwatered after I potted into a slightly larger terra cotta pot. Predictably it dropped a few bottom petals. I didn't throw them away, however and saved them. Videos like these have given me hope to start anew with some new babies. PVN's are without a doubt possibly the prettiest of all the echeverias.

I really do appreciate you for posting this video on how to propagate PVN, This doesn’t come out from my research. It just talks of general Echeveria or succulents propagation. I made a mistake of following those propagation methods, applied them to my PVN and from September 2020 until now, nothing comes out satisfactory. Now I can breath easy. Thank you so much! I can start this spring to at least produce PVN enough to fill a large size container. That’s my goal! 😍

HI Liz. I don't have any issues with mealy bugs. My succulents are outside all year long (Southern Sicily, 500 meters away from Mediterannean sea) where they receive plenty of sun and moisture in nights ( due to very close sea). If I buy a new plant with mealybugy, what hapens often, I spray plant with either ethanol (alcohol we drink or use for cleaning at home) or 2-propanol (known in USA as rubbing alcohol). Alcohol should be minimum 70% volume/volume versus water (e.g. 3 cups of water and 7 cups of alcohol). This eliminates all mealybugs immediately and none plant was ever damaged. This is also how I treat my lemon trees which are sometimes under attack of aphids. These alcohols immediately kill all aphids with no damage to leaves or to flowers. Also good to know, alcohol doesn't harm to usefull insects like bees, bumblebees, ladybugs etc. I have never experienced return of mealybugs, but I think this is because I try to keep useful insects in my garden by attracting them with flowering plants and making hotels for useful insects to make them to live in my garden.
@GrowingSucculentswithLizK
@GrowingSucculentswithLizK 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for that info Oliver. I'm working on a video right now regarding using rubbing alcohol which is really expensive here in Australia and with surprising result. I don't have issues with mealybug since I mainly grow most of my succulent outdoors and most of them are headed for the garden. The mealybug I'm having at the moment are all encourage so I can do these videos to show how to get rid of them or how not to have them. If you grow plants indoors with lack of air circulation, even the best gardener will have encounters with mealybug. A lot of people seem to freak out over these poor creatures but in my opinion, no such thing as a bad mealybug....Only lazybugs...LOL Plus they're not that bad as they have created alot of beautiful plants for me. Thanks very much for watching.

Very very informative once again. Liz my leaf propagations tend to grow incredible roots. I'm talking like 4 inch long thick roots and the plantlet is still attached to the leaf I chalk this up to the way I water them anyway my question is is it okay for me to trim those roots before I transplant them into their own pots out of the nursery tray? I know I did a couple of the same plant where I trim the roots and then a couple where I didn't trim the roots but I lost track of where I put the group of them so I really can't tell if it made a difference or not LOL. I know it's perfectly safe to trim the roots when you transplant plants but are they too young at this stage? I wish my hair grew as fast and thick as my leaf propagation Roots LOL I also love all the different looks of the pvn. 90% of my leaf propagations are all done from the same mother plant and they are all just so different. Succulents are amazing ❤️❤️❤️
@GrowingSucculentswithLizK
@GrowingSucculentswithLizK 3 жыл бұрын
If it has roots and plantlet, I usually remove them from the mother leaf and leave the roots as is. I don't throw away the mother leaf as some mother leaf can still put out another baby.
@janetac1738
@janetac1738 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I've done that as well. Prop twice from one leaf but I've noticed that my second propagations are always really small and they just don't look as good so I've stopped doing it. Maybe from a bigger juicier plant like one of the Miranda propagations I have right now the leaf is as big and as thick as my fist LOL and it has about 12 plantlets on it believe it or not and those are all huge but they're still all attached and I'm thinking of popping them off and trying the leaf again. I do have a ganzho (sp) that's double propping right now but the ones I've done so far are echeveria blue prince and sedeveria blue burrito. I just didn't like the way the second round came out

Hi Sarah, Hubby use to say that I have an obsessive personality. When I do things, I don't do anything in halves as obvious in my videos and this can be a problem. I have now devised a system for myself where I don't buy any new plants unless I put away the ones I bought previous. When I find that I have no more space, I stop buying or collecting until I "obsessively" find or make a new space for the new plants or pots. I tend to make this activity (one corner at a time) my "chill out" or time to myself and enjoy organizing with a cup of coffee which always goes cold....LOL Hard to explain but will try and do a future video on this.

Hi Liz I'm a new succulent mommy and I've learned so much from you over the past week. I've just plucked plump leaves from my PVN. I'm in humid part of Canada middle of Summer now. Will my leaves be ok outside in a dry tray under the deck umbrella or should I bring them inside the air conditioned house?
@GrowingSucculentswithLizK
@GrowingSucculentswithLizK 2 жыл бұрын
Inside would be better. PVN is such a strong plant that when the pups emerge, they can easily handle without acclimatization provided they don't get thrown into an open garden in the height of summer. Good luck.

I am trying to propergate..wondering what the right way is. The leaves are curl, so the ends are up. Do I keep the end up as is so it does not touch the soil or let it be so only the leaf touches the soil, but not the end? Thanks.
@GrowingSucculentswithLizK
@GrowingSucculentswithLizK 2 жыл бұрын
Hollow out some part of your soil so the curled leaf cad sit there comfortably with the plantlet touching the soil to encourage rooting. You can also use a hairpin to pin them down.

With succulents, it all depends on the soil mix. With PVN, a premium potting mix with some pumice or perlite will make them grow well.

Hi liz…I’m new to these beautiful plants ..I have started to remove my leaves to grow pups but they all grow clusters and I want just one baby what am I doing wrong .plus the plants I have removed the leaves are now growing complete pups is this normal , I was thinking it would just grow another leaf not a complete plant 😊😊

It depends on the succulent. Some will grow just one plant on a leaf, others will grow cluster. You can let the plant grow bigger and remove the unwanted plants. This video might be useful. How To Separate Succulent Clusters to Propagate Fast - kzbin.info/www/bejne/f6Gmg3lrpLOHpbs

is there a difference from coconut peat and coconut coir also where can we get some?
@GrowingSucculentswithLizK
@GrowingSucculentswithLizK 3 жыл бұрын
It's one and the same but the peat is best as it's finer. I get mine from Bunnings here in Australia but they are also available online. Link below for what I use. www.brunnings.com.au/coir-power-peat-brick-2210.html

So when you take the leaves to propagate then do you lay them on a paper towel and wait for them to grow some roots? Then move them to the coconut coir once they develop some roots. Once they are established you would move them again to the succulent soil mix?
@GrowingSucculentswithLizK
@GrowingSucculentswithLizK Жыл бұрын
Yes, to all your questions. The paper towel just absorbs any moisture on the leaves but it's not necessary. The coconut coir keeps them moist but not wet, so they grow faster than when planted on the soil mix.

Can a person use cacti and succulent mix instead of coconut coir to propagate leaves?
@GrowingSucculentswithLizK

Yes you can, but I find they grow much faster when in coconut coir since they get watered more often(once they roots) and less change of root rot.
