That is somehow creepy ... from the POV of the sensors of the Python, Growling Sidewinder and the Flanker must have swapped position(s), possibly even merging/overlapping for a short moment. Got lucky the missile did not change its mind and lock on to the F-16 ;-)

I believe the Python 5 accelerated at the end because its trajectory straightened out. Flying a 360 at Mach 1.5 to Mach 2 required a TON of induced drag to get the thing to turn that hard. Once it straightened out she was able to accelerate normally.

@@mindtraveller100 as far as I know they were bombing something in syria, and on the way back they chose a route over the sea and a russian plane on approach to land on their base in syria was in between the israelis and the syrian sam site. the syrians launched on them and the dumbasses hit the russian plane trying to land killing all that were on the plane. russia has some stellar allies :D :D :D

@@four-dimensionalperson I don't know... F-35 can only carry AIM-9Xs externally which negatively impacts stealth. I'd imagine F-35 is for more potent (by which I mean probably invincible) in BVR. I think the merge is the only way to make a fight against F-35 at least a little bit competitive, still not that much probably though. So I'd it's BVR where F-35 is pretty much untouchable, rather than fox 2 fight.

GS, you can use the 'boresight/cage' HOTAS button to directly control the head of your 9X (diamond on the HUD), without the need of FCR lock. Radar is limited to 60 degrees, while the boresight goes up to 90 degrees, maybe more. Great video !

I've been a fan of Python missiles and tried to explain to detractors why it has advantages over thrust vectoring missiles. When you said your first missiles missed, i knew, i knew that it was going to loop vertically and attack again. That's how the missile was designed

Interesting thought here, since some types, like the F-22 Raptors, are 100% of the time friendly, bc only the US flies them, I wonder if the Python-5 is currently coded to never engage one? I'm sure that bit of data is something that can be updated, but still, once the radar has ID-ed the type it could provide a meta-IFF response

As a former F-16 Crew Chief, and a DCC on a “D” family model, I have to say they did a great job with the canopy and accurate look of the Sufa. I am curious if they will ever update it to have someone in the back seat like the F-14. That would be pretty cool.

An F-35 with its EODAS, datalink and this missile would be super deadly against any aircraft. Imagine the 360 degree view and locking system of EODAS acting as a second head seeker for python via datalink from a different angle. That's scary

1. It was great seeing the missile on your channel. Like now the missile has really gone famous. 2. I think the missile has two distinct solid fuel engines, so when the first one burns out, the missile's software decides when's a good time to ignite the second one.

@@MrDvirpariente It can, because the pilot can use the misile seeker trough his helmet and use the high off boresight of the missile to designate the target, It probably wont reach 180° but It can track in extremely high angles, and about the flying capabilities of the misile it is assured that It can do a 180° turn and reverse its course. The target can be locked after the missile is fired as well. Ofc i'm not saying that its something doable in 100% of the time or that It is something easy, Just that it's technicaly possible.

@@v1n1c1u55anto5 as far as I know and I know a bit becuse one of my brothers is working for the company how manufacturers the helmet and the for the one how manufacturers the missile... The helmet can't look on to a target but direct the missile after it's was fired, so you basically have to shot the missile into the the air without looking on anything (and I don't know if it's possible) and track backwards

@@MrDvirpariente well, i say only the informativo that was public available, they say it has the capability "look and shoot" where the pilot uses the HMD to lock into the target and shoot the misile. The capability of firing with no target locked yet that you mentioned is called "lock-on after launch" which they say the misile is capable as well. Are you from South africa or Brazil?

It's not realistic though. 360 lock means that it can turn after launch and lock on a target which is locked on by a helmet sight, even behind the launching plane. It can't see behind it, and it shouldn't have the energy to spin like that

Ok...if the missile overshot him and your radar was not on him, how was it still guiding without Rdr or IR? If both your rdr and the missiles seeker are facing away from the bandit, even for a moment, how did it know which way to turn? It has to have some kind of data to know. Or was your radar back on him in time? I dont know what just happened but it was awesome!
