(25:40) I'm just going to say, as a teenager, this is the most important thing you can say to us. I'm growing up in a household where my family-direct and distant-don't take anything my brothers and I have to say into consideration. You can try to speak your mind but no one listens because you're just a kid. And I may be naive, but I have thoughts and feelings and I want to be listened to just like everyone else. Hearing Arin talk about how he listens and respects his nieces and nephews really impacted me, because there is hardly anyone now a days that will give us the time of day.

I feel really valued in my household and it's something I'm super greatful for. Especially my dad, he always talked to me like a person instead of some dumb kid. I'm 15 and they let me swear in the house, because they swear and they understood that it's a part of the family vocabulary. It's not super rude, it's just our own way of expressing ourselves. I've never cursed my parents out, but throwing in a damn or fuck for emphasis is just fine in my house, and that's something I super appreciate because it lets me know that they respect me enough to let me be myself around them.

I remember reading a child psychology book that said even at young ages, kids with imaginary friends understand that they aren't real in the same way that a friend or family member is, but they are "real" to the child. Apparently deep down we create imaginary friends as a way to practice social situations. I'm sure there are some rare exceptions to this, but yeah Arin isn't alone in this.

I was hyper aware of imaginary friends, so i mentally forced myself to imagine characters ive made up, an animal and this knight person because i knew i wanted one, but it wasnt like a naturally occuring friend that i believe most kids have, i would never speak, but sometimes i used to just imagine them walking next to me and i was like huh cool! But i never did normal imaginary friend things like interact or speak to them. Just see them there sometimes if i was like "oh yeah my characters"

I did something similar where I'd take blueberry yogurt and put it on the top of my PBJ sandwich because I misinterpreted a scene from a TV show where they were talking about trying new things. Apparently the example shown was putting yogurt on a piece of toast that had strawberry jam on it. For like 8 years I did that and one day asked why I did it and my mom could only respond "I dunno you've been weird about it for so long I stopped thinking about it". But for real yogurt with PBJ is still bomb, just on the side 😆

@Ace G You don’t need to believe me, but I remember that moment as clearly as I remember anything else. Also studies have suggested that on average most people will have memories going back to 2.5 years old but that others have memories have been earlier than this, and that it has a lot to do with genetics. Just because I remembered that specific moment at that age doesn’t mean that other people will remember things that far back. It also doesn’t mean that it’s impossible to remember things that far back in your memory. Don’t just discredit people outright because you haven’t experienced that thing. Have a good day now.

How I know Dan isn't lying about growing up in the Northeast: Wildwood.

when Dan mentioned that "not being able to breathe is a horrible feeling", it made me remember the asthma attack i had when i was little (forgot how old i was) i used to have asthma a long time ago (i don't have it now, fortunately), and it didn't help that i also got bronchitis a lot too, but that's not related to this story. anyways, i had a pretty bad asthma attack. like, it was "get this kid to the ER RIGHT NOW" bad. i don't remember the event itself though. i only know about it from my parents telling me about it. how the hell could i remember something from so many damn years ago anyways? (considering that my memory is total dogshit to begin with anyways lol) funny thing is though, i was told that while i was at the hospital, i was crying and saying "i wanna go home...!" and when i got home, i said "i wanna go to Disneyland" and i got to go to Disneyland but yeah. the feeling of not being able to breathe is terrifying and is not a good feeling at all.

32:52 there is a candle on clearance at my work that smells exactly like one on those candy flavored chapsticks I used to eat and I smelled it and went “dammit I want to eat it now” just cuz it’s such a unique smell that that’s what I thought of lol

Dan saying how awful it is not being able to breathe made me think about this one time when I was like 10 or 11 and started chocking on some food and I was the only one at the dinner table and my mom was on the couch facing away from me and I tried so hard go say something to get her attention but I just couldn't. Thankfully she just happened to turn around and helped me, she says my face started changing color

Reminds me of when I thought I was going to die when I was at a buffet with my family. I ate a piece of steak and started to choke and then, thankfully, I was able to spit it into my hand. That experience made me almost quit eating steak.

Danny's got one of those faces that doesn't really change as much as get worn out as he ages. High or defined cheekbones is a good sign for that.

Listening to them talk about how they learned about sex then going to Dan talking about putting M&M's in his cottage cheese is the best transition ever.

I went from like normal homework amount (like one page) in elementary school to freaking start class at 8 :15 get out at 3 :15 (7 hours) and then do homework till like 5 - 5 :30 then eat dinner, do dishes, entertain little sister, take shower, entertain sister more, then go to bed at like 9 p. So I literally was pretty obligated to stay up late and risk getting in trouble just so I could have free time. And I'm only going into 8th grade in fall and we still have the same amount for lunch as we did in 3rd grade. With this quarantine, for a while, we could get free school lunches so parents could save money and my grandparents feel so bad for us seeing the crappy food and such small amounts and I told them that we never ever got giant muffin tops or chocolate cookies or uncrustables. Like we had half the amount in school. I think they added those things so parents wouldn't be like "this is all they get?!"
