I got to meet Bob Ross in Alaska when I was a kid. He was every bit as nice in person as he was behind a paintbrush. It was for a school district art show. He found something beautiful in every piece and complemented each artist. He showed every one of us kids we had a gift inside of us that was our to grow. Good man.

I am no artist, but over the years I found that I enjoyed doing murals, and that it is the most interesting and calming activity I have ever done. Learning that the idea was to have fun, not be successful, was freeing. I owe him a debt of gratitude for his enjoyment of art influencing my own perception of it.

In my humble opinion, I don't believe the "value" of his works are based on his artistic ability, but rather on who he was and what he stood for. I don't believe it was ever his intent to teach anyone how to create great works of art, but to show that painting was for everyone. He instilled the point that anyone with desire and dedication could paint. That's what i got out of his shows, and he helped me to get started painting. Now, I've moved on to more advanced techniques, and have gone into more indepth studies about art, BUT, Bob Ross will always be the one who showed me that I could do it, and that to me is where his true "value" lies.

My grandma had one of his paintings. She got it as a PBS event in Tampa, Florida in the 1980's. The had a lot of stuff from PBS shows they auctioned off, even a few items from sesame street. The painting hung in my grandparent's guest bedroom for years. After my grandmother died in 2014, her lawyer took an inventory oh her estate. The painting along with a bunch of other stuff went missing :/ like my grandpa's comic book collection he started in the 1940s and baseball cards. We believe one of my uncles stole the stuff over the years to buy drugs. He lived with my grandma from the late 90s until she died and stuff always went missing. But he died in 2010 before my grandma, so we will never know what happened to the stuff :(

I watched him a lot in the hospital when I was growing up. I'm terrible at drawing and never tried painting but it was amazing seeing him start from white blank page and make beautiful pictures and it seemed SO easy. I remember him painting a part of the picture and thinking, what the heck is he doing, and then 5 minutes later, look at that, he turned nothing into something.

Loved this man and his program. He was amazing. Such a terrible tragedy and loss at a young age. I came across his program one afternoon when I was channel-surfing and was hooked from that day on, and still watch when his program is broadcast on PBS. I was amazed at this man's talent. I never really looked closely at paintings until I saw him paint and listened to his stories. He was mesmerizing. Nothing had to be perfect, a swish here and a swish there, and the result was a beautiful painting. I was so saddened when I heard that he had passed away. He is in heaven, looking down to see what he can paint next, and what fascinating stories he can make along the way. I read that there are instructors who teach classes. Definitely on my bucket list---I will have to check and see if there are any in upstate NY. I live in Oneonta, which is about 35 minutes from The Baseball Hall of Fame. Every Saturday afternoon found me in front of the tv, anxiously awaiting his program.. That was " my time" , and everyone knew NOT to disturb me. It is great that he lives on because of public broadcasting .

I did everything but the painting on velvet in the middle of the pan.. I wanted Bob to Patent them, but he sad it cost to much.. I still have two gold pans, one is a solid copper pan in which he only painted two , one for me and one for his Mom that lived with us for a yr. After we lost Bob's Dad.. she came up and stayed a yr. with us.. I am so glad your Dad knew Bob, your Dad might remember me if he was stationed there between 1968 - 1972 ? That all the originals that were supposed to be given to public TV for auction had all disappeared and no one had a clue where they were, but now show up in boxes in VA. What was given to the TV stations to satisfy their needs if the paintings went into hiding?? Or did they get anything at all?? How did they keep it secret from Bob all those years if this is what happened ?? It's a terrible thought I realize! But with all the corruption and lies being exposed today . God only knows the truth anymore.. Bob wouldn't of ever done that to anyone.. R.I.P. Brother of the land.. I hope I misunderstood this video.. There were 3 total of each done on the show each time. 1 went to Tv. THE ORIGINAL! 2 Went to training videos! 3 Was just a rough reference painting for the show that day. The ones in the boxes in VA. All art is subjective. Jackson Pollack didn't do anything that a three year old left alone in a garage with open paint cans couldn't do, but Pollacks attitude, message, intent and lifestyle contributed to his out of this universe worth as a painter. If people want it, then its valuable to them. If a lot of people want the same thing, then its value increases. His personality is attached to things he created, and people want that.
@MikelGCinema5 жыл бұрын
You are absolutely right. The whole art is subjective is pure bs.
@misterbonzoid56234 жыл бұрын
@@christineparis5607 Firstly it's Pollock. Secondly no three year old left alone in a garage with open paint cans DID do it (it's such a tired criticism), and anyway they wouldn't achieve the discipline of pattern apparent in many of his best-known works. Thirdly, there is a scale to many of his works when seen live which is a crucial part of the effect, like Mark Rothko paintings. There was an abstract expressionist exhibition at the Royal Academy in London a few years ago which I found very moving. It featured a painting by Janet Sobel, whose work influenced Pollock to change his style and produce the better-known drip paintings in dark paints on light backgrounds. It also showed a Lee Krasner mural; as far as I know she lived in his shadow artistically until his death, but it was beautiful. Seen together works by these three people gave context, and were part of an historic event. Abstract art is certainly subjective; figurative not so much, especially when you look at Titian or Michaelangelo.

The value of a painting is based, among other things, on the volume of work done by the artist. Also, the ability to copy or otherwise reproduce it can make a difference. So, based on this, I would guess that the painting - even if originals - will not fetch millions, but maybe tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands ( low hundreds, that is) at the max. Publicizing the instructions on painting a painting makes it easier for forgers to "fake" a painting. Of course, that is what Bob Ross had in mind when creating the show. In the meantime, the corporation holds on to the "stock" of originals to create higher demand by limiting supplies. It is possible that the Before and After Show Copies are destroyed so that only the 1000+ paintings made on the show will remain. These might sell at auctions for a higher price. The "others" might have been painted by someone in the audience ...

I live in nova and I googled the company and building and it says permanently closed. Also there is a page that says they’ve donated many artifacts and artwork to the Smithsonian earlier this year. That was as of July so it’s been nearly a year. So maybe some facts in this video should be checked

I HAD TWO OF HIS EARLOY PAINTINGS, ONE IN THE PAN DATED 1971 AND A LARGE RECTANGULAR PAINTING WITH HIS FULL SIGNATURE ON THE BACK. I SOLD THEM ON E BAY, SHOULD HAVE KEPT THEM

Bob Ross paintings are actually easy to identify. He never had to rework an area of his paintings. If you see one that seems a little worked( muddy). It's most likely a fake.

I Have An Amazing Painting By One Of His Students That I Saved From A House That Burned Almost Completely Down. It Looks Like A Window And It Has A Pond And A Small Waterfall And Stream ,The Big Beautiful Mountains Are Covered In Snow , It's At Either Sunset Or Sunrise And Of Course It Has A Bunch Of Happy Little Trees And A Couple Of Happy Big Trees That Look Like They Are Growing Out Of The Panting And They Block The View Of The Mountains Just Enough To Make You Feel Like You're Actually Looking Out Of A Real Window. It Really Is Beautiful And I Consider It To Be Priceless. I Seriously Doubt That I Would Ever Sell It, If I Did Whoever Bought It Better Have Awful Deep Pockets And Long Arms.

yea sure....you would sell it in a second....but the truth is..no one is paying you close to 10 grand for it....my guess is ross paintings sell..for 1-3 thousand..tops

I have nothing negative to say about Bob Ross and if I could think of anything it would be that he may need to use some conditioner in that hair. But hey don't we all?

30, 000 paintings?! Nonsense. Bob was either joking, full of shit or misquoted. Do the math. He'd have to do 2 paintings daily for 40 years straight. Who could even afford the canvas, oil paint and supplies to do that many paintings? He didn't even get paid to do the 31 seasons he did. He did the show for *Free*
