I remember when I was in a treatment center in Alabama. I met a real McCoy and he was confirmed to be a real McCoy by the treatment center. His name is Shawn McCoy. He was about 13 at the time in about 2008/9. The center actually paid for both families and come and speak their history and they agreed that their genetics did play a huge part, and was agreed that the illness they had played the biggest part. When we were able to meet both sides of the family it was very interesting. They dont own the land they use to have, in fact they sold it off in the early 1900s, but have a massive amount of their ancestors possessions. They even have some of their old guns, but have donated most of them to museums. They talked about also what caused the freud and it wasn't just a pig and a wedding. I was happy to meet both families.

My Grand Father from Hot Springs NC near Max Patch had a land dispute with a neighbor for years over a Natural Spring that was just below my Grands house. Both properties had over 100 acres and the land dispute kicked off after appx 50 years by the new neighbors the new owners felt it was apart of their property so my Grand Dad fenced it in and that settled the matter...I guess?

I always heard that my family was direct descendants of the McCoys, but I live in the suburbs of Detroit & have no interest in anything southern so I never gave it a chance growing up... recently I took over looking into my moms and dads side and yea I am the great-great-great grandson of Nancy McCoy - do you think HBO owe's many any $$ XD

Sounds to me like the Hatfield for a little bit more of the oppressors and I’m missing something? And don’t anybody get their feathers ruffled I’m only asking. Yes I live in Kentucky.

sorry, but i keep repeating this info and i keep coming up with the conclusion that Randall McCoy is to blame for it all. When you sell your soul to the everlasting butthurt religion, it cannot end well

I am surprised you never mentioned any of the numerous children's cartoons based off this famous, bloody feud. Pretty much every single major animation studio had at least a few shorts dedicated to either the Hatfields and McCoys directly, or one of their main characters wandering into the feud by accident. Its amazing that a history so full of murder and tragedy was seen as 'yeah, this'll make a great cartoon for kids!'.

the most recent example is from My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic... although it makes more sense to portray the feud in that show, as the point of the episode was to depict how easily simple arguments can escalate, as none of the descendants of the families knew exactly why they were fighting... the feud was just a frame of reference for a moral, instead of just an easy joke, so I think it gets a pass in that regard I mean, family feuds (and the Romeo & Juliet plots that sometimes accompany them) are a great way to show kids how easy it is to start a fight, and how dumb it is to keep the fight going, and also to show that the adults can and will be wrong at times... also to show how the younger generation's goal should be to solve things as peacefully as possible, or to find a different solution, not to blindly follow their parents' mistakes

The "feud" might have been used to depreciate or slander Appalachian people in general. Perhaps in the furtherance of exploiting the Appalachian people in such acts as taking their property away from them as in forging title documents. Post Civil War era.

here's the story the hatfield-mccoy feud told to me by my grandfather my grandfather said that the feud started over a hog and the trial for the hog did not take place in a log cabin it took place next to a creek in west virginia there is a sign that says the hog trial site Randall McCoy did not know good trees to cut he only knew of certain trees that did not make a lot of money you got jealous because devil anse hatfield knew what trees to cut to make money on and then perry ilein was the one who tried to get the property out of devil anse has hands but it failed perry klein was the one that hired frank fhelps and all those bounty hunters to come after the hatfields it was perry ilein who got a lot of people locked up perry klein you say was on your side in the cop the free consultation with him ever in the courtroom he would be on the side of the prosecution perry klein was the one that made the whole few toward the end a big bloodbath then it went from kimberly jones in rosanna there's only three said things about the feud was jonesy rosanna her baby randall mcCoy hr had nothing to do with what happened to ellison hatfield something else to point out jim vance is not related to devil anse devil answers mama only had two sisters no brothers so that means him vance is not the uncle to devil anse hatfield nor is he uncle to devil anse hatfield brothers and sisters it is also unclear who killed asa hartman mcCoy not too many people really know what happened to him cuz there was really no witnesses to tell who or what happened to him
@kysilverhawk Жыл бұрын
here's the thing the person that did the trial was wall hatfield and randall mcCoy is named randall mcCoy not randolph just want to clear that up cuz there's been a lot of misconceptions here lately about the feud and i'm saddened to say the few to starting back up again because of the mcCoys and that's very sad to have a feud to start back up again it's like devil said do you walk over and kick a mean dog while he's asleep no you don't you hope he goes back to sleep you don't keep messing with him the mcCoys or messing with the hatfields and it needs to stop before the feud between the two families started back up again

Ance Hatfield is my first cousin, 5x removed. The Hatfield are from Logan, West Virginia. My mother was born in Logan in 1944. My grandfather, Eddie Burns, Jr., moved to Detroit in the late 1950s, to get away from the poverty, incest, moonshine, violence and ignorance of that era.
