Just a thought you can get shirts marketed for fishing that are light weight and not durable but they include a hood and mask to keep the sun off you. I'll basically wear them everyday in Texas because I don't tend to burn in them. Just something to think about for those hot days

At the immediate end of the gwot there was lots of awesome surplus dumped on the market. I bought two Crye Precision field tops for 24 dollars each. Both new and slightly different, one gen2 and one army custom field top. I generally like them more than combat shirts for the same obvious reasons. I miss those days. I got so much super expensive clothing and gear for pennies on the dollar. A multicam mystery ranch pack 4000 cubic inch for under 200 dollars new. Good luck finding that sorta deal today. I also picked up a bunch of clothes by Beyond Clothing and Wild things tactical.

I mainly have combat tops. The ACU/OCP field jackets I've used while I was in, have almost all been destroyed from field use, but for some reason my combat tops are still good to go.

My first tour (OIF 2.5-3.5) I had an IBA with DCUs. Unlike the IOTV, they were not designed with tall people sizes. So I actually made use of my belly pockets, because IBA left them exposed.

Good stuff! I prefer standard blouse/ field tops up here besides right now, though the Ripstop tops ventilate nicely compared to the twill blend ones. Got one combat top in the other pattern I run, it's alright, definitely only for when running armor.

I like to use a combat shirt in conjunction with a sleeveless field top. If it's getting warm then I pull off the sleeveless field top and air out. If it gets cooler out, I put it back on. Is it a perfect answer? No, but it works for me. Because it's sleeveless it rolls up nice and tight and doesn't take up much space. The wicking from the combat shirt is nice and it feels like a normal undershirt when wearing it with the sleeveless.

I have a chinesium combat top from Tactical World Store. Its actually pretty comfortable. Its probably not the best quality compared to other brands but it seems to work okay from what I can tell so far. Mine can partially unzip at the front too. When i baught it, it came in a bag with all chinese writing on it and a picture of what is quite obviously a P.L.A. soldier. He's even got a QZB-95. I definitely do need to get myself some more clothing like this. Ive only got one set of this kind of clothing so far.

I am a big fan of the Greek Lizard pattern shirts. Also love the German stuff as a go to. I cut the sleeves and hoods off their field jackets. Great multi season outer layer. Best pit vents ever. Not really a shirt though.

You should be good with those issued Massif combat shirts in the realm of FR. They are completely FR to include the body wicking material. Also, I love the cut neck. I couldn't stand the massif neck line on the ACS and thought the V2 with a quarter zip was considerably more comfortable.

I got myself a set of Rhodesian Brushstroke pants and top. The field top I got is insanely durable and I prefer it a lot, I got some of my friends who are “tacticool” that don’t like my set up (being a chest rig, the brushstroke uniform, boonie, and a pack) cause its not “high speed low drag” like theres, but they can shove it, they are still in the phase of looking like operators rather than practicality for their situation and area 😂

I'm a fan of the IHWCUs, yeah they're not as durable as the standard stuff but not by much. For some reason they fit better on me, haven't checked to see if they made them a different cut but I wouldn't be surprised if it was. I like the Massif combat tops too, but the sleeves on mine don't breath so its barely better than a wash vs the IHWCU field top.

I really liked Outdoor Research's Astroman, it's a bit pricey but it is a bit more durable than your average sun shirt, it looks great, and it has a lot of breathability and flexibility. But now that I'm riding motorcycles again, I'm trying to stay clear of poly clothing. Yeah it's a shirt but I've seen enough accidents to know you can't fuck around with bad clothing. If you have any recommendations on hot weather tops that are rugged besides the Helikon, I'd appreciate suggestions Randall!

Ok i want to throw this idea out since its a newer video, to vets whove "been there" The torso of the CS isnt durable, but a full FS is kinda bulky to try and pack out to a cop/op situation where you might doff your armor... so... field-shirt vest? No sleeves, so maybe do quad torso pockets like the old field jacket, and maybe add an inside button pattern for a FJ-type insulation layer? Tell me if its terrible or brilliant, becuase I really dont know 😅

Dude, combat shirts are fantastic for day stuff in the summer only. But they aren’t durable. Especially the Velcro sleeves, Those neck tops sucked ass. Went through so many as a door gunner in AFG in ‘16. If you’re going to be outside at night definitely taking the field shirt.
