I thought the same initially, but when you view it separately from Season 1- it's actually pretty fucking good. Season 1 was 10/10. Season 2 was judged too harshly for not being Season 1, part 2. In retrospect I'd rank it 9/10, and Colin Farrell's performance should have won him an Emmy.

Avoided season 2 for about 6 years because every critic gave it a negative rating, I completed it in 2 days and in my opinion it was one of the best shows I have ever watched. I agree that the storyline was somewhat confusing but can't deny that this show was a masterpiece. Ray and Frank were the best. I do not understand the unnecessary hate, Yeah season 1 was ART but can't compare two different storylines. Both were good in their own way.

Underrated and great season love how dark,brutal and complex it was. Ray is such a deep,three dimensional superbly written anti hero and amazing character. I don't understand how people and the critics praise mediocre season like 4 with subpar writing,but dislike great very well written season like season 2 of True Detective people lack of taste is absolutely pathetic sometimes. Ray alone is better than all characters in True Detective season 4 combined.

Way way underrated, deserved better reception and as the years have gone by I think it aged well. A little convoluted which got it a lot of criticism but there were so many good moments and the ending is an all time hard hitter to watch. Also shout out Farrell, Ray was a great character and Colin turned in an incredible performance. The season really deserved better, the fact that some critics and fans made it out to be some bad season was crazy to me, it was good just had to follow one of the greatest seasons of tv ever

@@puppetmaster8551 I just finished season 3 and it was solid, but I much prefer season 2. Season 2 had it's issues, but it still had some great characters and memorable moments. Season 1 is in a league of it's own. The reaction to season 2 really hampered the third season. Season 3 is too simple for it's own good. The story is so stretched thin that it becomes stale at times. It tried too hard to emulate season 1, but ended up with a watered down version. Season 2 had a far more interesting story with that classic noir storytelling and the characters were way more interesting. I hope the showrunner will feel more confident with season 4 and try something new.

I found the ending showing that he was most likely the father was a classic TD moment. When you expect the big twist, you get the realistic, heartbreaking truth... a'la the TD1s finale... and then in season two when you are fully expecting the same grim realistic truth, but instead you get to see something good happen... in short it was such a beautiful touch to contrast the utter dark reality of the rest of the ending. Season 3 needs to happen.

@sentientmeat89752 жыл бұрын
I’m not sure it was a beautiful ending. It means that Ray was self punishing for absolutely no reason what so ever. All his anger and nihilism was wasted on worrying about that unknown. He wasn’t certain hence his destructive behaviour… He couldn’t let it go himself, he tried to ignore it but you could tell that it was eating away at him. Everything to do with his wife and son was eating away at him. The fact his wife was literally trying to rip his son away and even using her rape as a means to do it… Fucking horrendous to find out that it all could of been resolved for Ray with a simple DNA test. I can’t imagine Ray being the man that he is would of done anything dangerous or risky throughout the story of season 2 if he had known for a fact that his son was his. He has too much respect for his son to put himself in harms way… Ray was almost certain towards the end that the boy wasn’t his and he was going to loose him forever hence why he decided to go with Frank and plan to run away with Ani.

Those lines of dialogue, "If I had been stronger I'd have been more like you." Made me burst into tears man. @Vejita122 жыл бұрын
Not the rape, the killing did that to him, Ray killed a guy and himself that day, but he made the choice, paid the price, moved on while hating himself.. more or less moved on, so imagine that you suddenly get a memo, that you were set up and you, a police officer and a good man, killed an innocent man, ruined your career, your life, your family for absolutely nothing, no revenge, no justice, nothing but a petty killing.. he was not as bad as the bad guys he was supposed to catch and bring to justice, he was worse, way worse a lowlife killer and to a point he made that choice. That's fucked up to a whole new level of fucked up. imho.
