Man that scene where Maggie and Rust have sex is what finally broke that little thread there was tying Rust to a 'normal' life. He didn't want to be involved in Marty's marital problems for starters and then to be used just to hurt Marty destroyed him from both a sense of him opening up to Maggie and maybe having some attraction to her, but more so because despite their banter Rust and Marty were friends. Hell most of the season you can tell Rust knew Marty better than Marty knew himself. Above all he knew Marty had a good heart despite his flaws. All that was trashed in just a few minutes and he knew it. I also think he held back and let Marty beat on him more than he could have if it was anyone else. That whole "Nice hook Marty" was his way of saying he was sorry for Maggie.

some interesting thoughts , but I don't think Rust had any designs on Maggie. They end up in that intense fuck scene because both are at the end of their personal ropes, him because of the murders he is obsessed with solving and her with her marriage. On another note, if that scene with Rust was the "hardest she had been fucked since before the kids" she doesn't have a very passionate marriage - no big surprise I suppose. I preferred the sick-in-the-rack little girl from the whorehouse & cell phone store that Marty got hooked up with that finally did end his marriage. She had a body made for sin and a head full of ideas to enjoy it.

@Sheerluck Holmes I can see how some might see Rust's change after experiencing death as a betrayal against the nihilism at the heart of his character, and I can appreciate that. This is definitely one of the most impressive jewels on screen in so many ways. The dialogues between them both, the way of telling an actually random story, the pictures and how all those fit together is absolutely amazing. It´s just a priceless and needful experience, each soul has to make. Wish, there was a sequel :(

Yeah, my vote also goes to True Detective - season 1, along with The Wire. Breaking Bad was so fucking depressing and had no redeeming outcome on any level. Yes, Rust is dark as they come, because of the loss of his daughter and then marriage. But in the end, he has the Near Death Experience with his daughter and his father and understands that their earthly deaths were not the end and they had been there all along. Beautiful line at the end - Rust answers Marty's comment about light & dark with an argument for hope.

@@bat1sta980 Then YOU are a POS because someone out there, millions of them are better than you. See how that stupid logic works? Breaking bad was good. TD is good. Don't compare apples to oranges ya fanboy. That mindset is pure misery.

The little skip at 1.41 when Cohle steps to the next assailant (/?victim) is masterful, very briefly Cohle is allowing himself to do something he wants to do, just for a few seconds the world makes sense, everything is simple. This series is so multi layered I think I could watch it dozens of times and still not see everything, I will not regret trying though.

I think Deacon Farrar is definitely one of many tragic characters in this show. In the beginning when you see him, I suspected him of nefarious things. It was the biggest lesson this show ever taught me..never judge a book by its cover. He was a good man who truly believed in the good his parish was trying to do for people by bringing them a message of hope and faith. He just got caught up in the quagmire of his own religious system and it's inherent bureaucracy. He was the only one who tried to do the right thing and report what he saw during his lay duties and he got accused of being responsible for the photos. Just a good man caught up in a bad corrupted world. "I lost heart, a little bit of this." Rust related more to this man than he cared to realize. Amazing writing.

The whole video, especially the splits between before and after, were amazingly sequenced, and the music fit very well with it all. Bravo to Nic P. for the story, Matthew, Woody and their support for the acting, and LeBreton for the amazing editing on this clip. I've watched it many times and expect to many more. @DaedalusR4 жыл бұрын
Cletus Spuckler You’re comment is so literal, condescending and just plain dumb i don’t even know where to begin. 1. I never said he did 2. You have no idea how Rust would handle Epstein, although unfortunately it’d probably go something like SledgeHammers comment which leads to my next point 3. The comment was not meant to be taken that literally, I was saying it would be nice to have someone capable of and dedicated to catching his circle. Not that I think of Rust existed in real life he would literally be able to catch them all. 4. In the ending of the show Rust exclaims that “the light is winning” meaning even though they didn’t catch everyone, their small win made the world a little brighter and that one day, with the help of many humans like Rust and Marty, they’ll win the war.

this comment doesn't have enough likes. It is my belief that Hollywood and media circles are more privy to how the power structure is than the average public (see House of Cards ) and make these shows to kind of silently protest and sound the alarm for the public
