The 97+ ones do ok. I make my own 4” air intakes for these that draws from the headlight. It all depends on what you have in the shash.

I don’t have a truck to really show it on. But you can normally use a box end wrench or a 1/4” drive ratchet with a universal swivel to help get to it. They are a bugger to get to. Hope this helps some.

I used a drain from Leroy diesel. The stock one will work. You just need a little longer rubber tube for the bottom.

How laggy is a hx40 i came up with a genuine holset for very cheap but its a manual truck i trailer with.

For a manual truck it will be very laggy and you’ll have EGT issues. For that I suggest a 12cm housing HX35.

Right now, I'm trying to remove the turbo on my 6.5 But I'm having problems with taking the Turbo off after getting the nuts off, the bolts. Are the bolts supposed to thread out?

Did you remove the oil drain? If all four nuts came off you should be able to get it to pop loose to life it off of the flange.

How is the wastegate on the hx turbos connected to the truck? The original you can do away with the vacuum actuator so what do you do with the new one?

The HX wastegate runs off of vacuum from the turbo itself. Nothing connects to the truck and you don’t need to build anything. Most HX gates are pre set to 15-20psi boost which is plenty safe for the 6.5. Hope that helps

@@billcooke1472 you won’t blow the head gaskets. You will need a tune if it’s a 94-00. The tune itself will make a large difference to help keep everything in check.

You would need a custom down pipe adapter and charge pipe. But an HX 40 with a non gated 14cm turbo labs housing runs great.

Based on power to weight calculators and ET slips with a lift pump, upper intake, tune and turbo a DS4 truck can pickup anywhere from 40-100 rwhp depending on what you go with.

If you don’t want much lag go with an HX35. 40s are always very doggy on these unless you have a lot of fuel.

I fill the turbo with oil for 1-2 days prior with a cap in the drain side. Before starting I put more in while turning the shaft to make sure nothings dry.

The best way to go is an HX35. Nearly no lag and pairs perfectly with the fueling capabilities of a 6.5.

You can run stock gaskets and bolts with an HX35 no problem. I did it for years just keeping boost around 13-17 psi. HX40 I suggest studs in the future typically.

@@SFH_AG If you are doing it for sound you are doing it for the wrong reasons. The HX35 has a noticeable whistle over stock. The HX40 has more whistle depending on what wheel and turbine housing you select.

The sensors in the intake manifolds on 94-2000 are a map sensor and a barometer. I had a boost gauge. The ones in the bottom you either make or you have to buy intakes with the holes pre made.

You can buy a whole turbo and install kit directly from PTwiring solutions. It has everything you need to drop it right on. The bad. You cannot retain the S&B when going to a HX35 or 40 due to the physical size of the turbo which will make it so the S&B no longer fits in the truck.

@@diyautomotive4750 Super54 hands down. Heath turbos are just a stock GM turbo with a wheel and some port work. You’ll see the most benefit in heat reduction. Air flow and power from a super 54.

@@gingersnapcustoms I was wanting to run the factory turbo but its against the dryer. Working on a 99 c1500 suburban. Had a vortec 350. I got to looking closer and found that the downpipe won't even fit

@@WARD5KUSTOMZ the gas AC and diesel dryers are a bit differently placed and suburbans are even different from the pickups. You may have to angle the dryer to the passenger side or you’ll have to get a 6.5 fire wall and match all the holes to relocate it/replumb it.

Think the hardest part in my truck was taking all the rusted bolts out of the inner fender what a pain that was. Gm did a whole lot of purely dumb stuff to this motor they should have kept it as a marine application all mechanical the mechanical pumps can easily outperform the electric ds pumps and they should have never installed that stupid vacuum pump ! Im pretty sure the engineers didnt want chevy purchasing the company that built these motors which is why they sabotaged them so badly ! if upper management had a clue the duramax program wasted so much money when that money could have bought this company out instead of chrysler buying it ! this motor would be a beast had they thrown the duramax money into it ! With real engineers it would have made 700 hp and prob 800ft lbs of torque just add money and real engineers. Instead those engineers being pig headed and arrogant came up with a really not so impressive duramax what a waste of money and a solid platform

I prefer the DS4 pumps. But I agree on some of what you said. Unfortunately the 454 was the flag ship engine and the 6.5 was left out to dry. Unfortunately you can’t always have both, a good gas and diesel.

I actually managed to get all of my nuts off of my turbo without having to go through the fender, had to get creative on the back right one though and stand on top of the bumper to get everything, but at least I didn't have to fool with the fender!
