Great review on selecting right choice for people. The transmission selection was very useful. Pit they don't have a Rohloff although it sounds like the HDS does have an internal gear option. keep up the good work and stay safe

They have Rohloff on the new GSD video now. I should probably make an updated version of this video now :)

A pretty good video but I think it misses big on a very, very important quality of the HSD; its improved Transportability over the GSD. When you really think about the day to day usability of your bike, this can have massive implications. The HSD is a little over 56 pounds, stock. Many transit systems place a 55 pound limit on bikes they allow on their front racks. Pop the battery and possibly the Yepp seat off your HSD and you are ready to VASTLY expand your transportation range by doing Bike/Bus combination travel. The GSD is significantly overweight to even attempt this. The HSD may thus be capable of handling the last few miles of your otherwise train or bus dominated commute, whereas the GSD is very unlikely to be. You may also want to go somewhere in your car, then bike once you get there. The GSD is a beast. Difficult to fit in another vehicle. You will want a very heavy duty rear bike rack to even attempt carrying it outside your vehicle. The HSD will fit inside more cars, as well as outside cars on more racks. This will open up riding opportunities on the HSD that would be highly impractical or impossible on the GSD. Even just carrying the bike up stairs and over curbs. Unfortunately not all public spaces are perfectly accessible yet and you may need to lift your bike, even just to help it snake into a storage location. The lower weight of the HSD will be a big benefit for these mundane but muscle testing moments.

This is excellent feedback. I had one day to make three videos of the HSD and you’re totally right about missing this point. I think these points are worth calling out for sure and I appreciate you doing so. I will also note that I didn’t have a car readily available, but I will consider using one as a prop in a future video when relevant. I don’t use a car much in my daily life, but I know many do so I should think about that more in the future. Thanks again for your feedback.

But ... isn’t the gsd s10 is about 59 lb vs hsd 54 lb isn’t much different after removing the battery for public transport? Maybe the price point is significant ... the s00 at 71 lb is definitely too heavy. A trade off for that extra weight cargo for sure.
@striatic
@striatic 4 жыл бұрын
Aimee Taylor Many public transit services have a 50lb limit for their racks. It is impossible to get the GSD under this limit. Removing the battery from the HSD puts it under the limit. Those 5 additional pounds might as well be 50 pounds as far as the regulations are concerned.

Very informative in a relaxing manner that allows absorbing the content better. Wonderful bike GSD been looking at Tern for a while. Nice in thinking about the little guy (money constraints), by making such an affordable version-has me eye balling it again.

Propel Electric Bikes I am seriously shopping now and your guys have been very helpful. I just want a Gen 4 motor, the widest tires, suspension and double battery ability but these qualities are split between the GSD and HSD. Why would I want to pay $4k+ for the GSD when it has a Gen 2 motor and not have suspension? I would get it otherwise. Why can’t the HSD have wider tires or double battery capability? I would get it otherwise.

The level of "design" in both of these bikes is market leading. "Cargo" bikes are what eBikes are about. They are a motorised exoskeleton like in Aliens film but with wheels...

You can charge the battery on the bike, but some cargo configurations can make it difficult to remover the battery.

Are 20" rims tall enough to carry pannier bags from ground clearance? I would desire one for not only reccreational riding, but also for long distance biketouring as traveling on the following types of surface grounds: 1) pavement 2) paths 3) hard pack dirt to light gravel fire road trails.

With a normal back rack on other 20 inch bikes, you'll only be able to carry front panniers. But there should be a way to make true back pannier work on these

Great Review - Very clearly explained also for people with less bike knowledge. I have a question about the HSD. I want carry a child and a small dog (4kg) in a basket on the back. Like to keep the front rack empty for other things. Can the child seat be placed at the very back of the rear rack so that I could fit a small basket in front of it. Thanks in advance for your help :)

Is the GSD only available with a derailleur or is it available with Rohloff or Enviolo? If not, will it eventually comes with internal shifter?

Is there a throttle option for either bike?
@Propelbikes
@Propelbikes 4 жыл бұрын
No throttle options for these. I would recommend trying one though as most people find a throttle isn’t necessary once you actually try a proper pedal assist bike. Btw - not all pedal assist is created equal. Most systems pale in comparison to the Bosch motor system when it comes to the ride experience.

Why do you say a very low weight of 100/200pounds on a WELDED frame rack that supposedly would take over 5times more weight then a classic bolt on rack would?
@Propelbikes

132lbs and 200lbs is a lot of weight. Maybe it could handle more, but it would hurt the handling.

We are legit in the market for 3 bikes as a family and I have to tell you after totally loving the looks and design of the GSD I went to research the price and my jaw hit the floor. I know bikes can get expensive (even regular bikes) but these guys are at least twice as expensive as they should be so we have decided to pull the trigger with a different brand (actually 2 from one brand and a Radwagon for brother inlaw and mother inlaw to use as a tandem. The pricing was ridiculous just for the base model much less the seat in the back etc.

I would recommend trying a bike with the Bosch system. You’d be surprised how well they hold up. We have hundreds on them on the streets of NY being used for commercial purposes and they have little trouble.
