John Mayer is there like he is really appreciating being baptized by the King of Blues guitar. So glad he had that special time with BB before he passed away. 1:05 - the line by BB and Johns "awkward" line in response, followed by his giddy, almost embarrassed yearning for approval from BB IS the most priceless moment of John's Career. BB is so fucking classy. He seems short and crass at first, almost as if he doesn't like john but it quickly becomes apparent that he appreciates his talent and youth, even if he has no patience for johns ego.

One thing I'm being aware of, is that, when you're playing the blues, sometimes your own style and your essence tells you what to play, when you try to do more than what you're musicality is telling you, sometimes the blues kicks you back and you sound awful 😂 I can tell that BB has a style much more melodic and calm, and that's what makes him so interesting, not too much notes, just the right feel. Others like srv and Albert king, they're own style tells them to be that fast, and that's what we sometimes don't understand 😅 I'm starting to learn that I have to flow with the blues, talk with the music, feel my own rhythm and style. And man, that a hard way to go! Greetings, blessings and what a good comment!! 🔥🎶🌀🏞️

Been reading some comments underneath and it seems like most people thinks it`s all about speed and technique, John Mayer holding back or trying to outshine BB, etc. To be honest I`m pretty shocked. My advice: stop listening and start really listening. Of course, when it comes to mastering a guitar, there is no hidden fact that John Mayer is on another level. However, when it comes to making music, finding the right connections of notes and most of all feeling it, BB is simply outstanding. Just listen to the fantastic licks by The King. Do people think he became the king by being the most technical player 60 years ago? Stop looking at the guitar like it`s just a piece of materiel and start listening to what comes out of it. Think about it this way. If you listening to one song compared to another, would you say that the fastest and most technical song was the best? No, because music is about getting touched, whether it`s rock or a soft song. The point is that it doesn't matter. And what do we do with a guitar? We make music and that`s what it`s all about. What is the point of playing 10 notes if 1 note can show you so much more?
@VitalityMassage9 жыл бұрын
Smartman Additionally, the semi-hollow body guitar that BB plays (Gibson ES-335) has a deeper and richer tone than John's Strat. It's really perfect for blues. It's not as EASY to play as a thinner bodied, solid wood guitar but BB isn't concerned with "easy". BB's mindset is QUALITY just as you're stating here.
@AstralGamingStyle9 жыл бұрын
Smartman look at buddy guy his style is pretty fast but he can make u feel things ! i think like you that music if for expressing before every thing but it doesn't mean that slow gonna express more than fast is juste that if u do it with soul you gonna have your own style and gonna express and unique message and how you do it is juste up to you.Like a mirror for your soul
@1234268blablabla9 жыл бұрын
Daniel Rodrigues And how exactly does that make you disagree with me? Just because I think BB King expresses more than John Mayer doesn't mean that I necessarily think that a fast guitar lick or solo is less soulful than a slow. Read carefully to what I wrote about music. "It doesn't matter" as long as the music reaches you. However a good guitar solo is like a good speech and most times you don't need that many words to express yourself. You gave me buddy guy as an example which by the way is one of my great favorites, I give you SRV.
@AstralGamingStyle9 жыл бұрын
Smartman because you were saying that slow express more than fast and that's not the problem fast or slow, it's what the solos mean

0:33 BB keeps hearing John repeating his major thirds he loves to throw in. BB knows this musical theme all to well, he knows why John likes it, he throws a lick that maybe Coltrane and Sonny and even Milt Jackson used to do, an inverted arpeggio that sings 5 - 8 - 3 -4 and trills between the 3 and 4, teetering between sustain and resolving, and he can resolve to the 3, or to the dominant 5 and land on a resounding 1. Where's he gonna go? Beautiful phrase that I remember playing many times on tenor.

mattsucksatmusic same reason I am watching this but JM should have just relaxed. The way to prove your greatness when you’re so privileged enough to play next to the greatest is to do as if you have nothing to prove and just enjoy the moment. That is greatness in itself. Technically couldn’t shine for itself because he was busy trying to outdo the master. Take Clapton on the other hand. He is technically a blues master in his own right, yet he treats King as blues royalty. There’s a difference in that.

Well.... .. .I just had a musical education. Playing since I was a kid and being off the guitar for a few years I just checked in here put some diversity on my 7 years old's mp3 player. Suddenly it all becomes clear; hat off to John Mayer very talented guy, but there is a certain element that I missed and I think many of later generations have missed, even Vaughn to some degree: it's about more than shapes and moving through riffs, or even variety in that, the reason these old guys were great is confidence. They strike and bend with confidence and at the right time, that's important; rhythm requires confidence, rhythm & blues requires confidence and you can't make up for insecurity with variety. These old guys play most notes with confidence (not pride) they know there instruments and music so well, they know what sound is going to come out when they play a note and they're not afraid to let it ring, be heard and feel!

I don’t play any instruments or anything butI stayed here and replayed this video from 4am to 8am and would stay here all day today, Thursday, January 17, 2019. But real life is pulling me. Why do I feel like my soul is crying and yet rejoicing at the same time? Wow! Love this video so much. A kid with his dad.

3:56 you hear it from the guitar first "I wanna thank you" this definitely helped to shape him in to the wonder he is today The King was teaching him and testing him the whole time this was like a breath of fresh air

Man I find haters boring and mundane. No one cares what you think. These two together are just soul lifting. Two incredibly gifted artists whose music will live on forever.

BB king is one of the few guitarists who knows that less is more... The feeling he puts in every note is amazing. John mayer is the blues guitarist of the present, loveable and got his own sound I love it very much.
