She's speaking Swiss Standard German, not to be confused with Swiss German.
@armd_n_rdy2 күн бұрын
she's actually speaking high German and mixing in a few Swiss German expressions. When she speaks you can tell she's Swiss.
@Slithermotion2 күн бұрын
@armd_n_rdyswiss standard german is the precise definition of it. „High german“ has in linguistic teaching a different meaning and covers every middle and upper german dialect including all standard german variations.
@Kyr0822 күн бұрын
So let's say it's dictionary German spoken with a strong Swiss-German accent.
@Slithermotion2 күн бұрын
@@Kyr082 swiss standard german has in some cases a different vocabulary then then standard german in germany. German is a pluricentric language, switzerland has just a different variation. In theory german doesn‘t have an official spelling standard but germany uses de facto the „Bühnendeutsch“ and maybe think of everything else as an accent. Some germans even have problems understanding swiss standard german…which is a bit sad.

@@Slithermotion Thank you very much for the details I didn't know. I'm a french-speaking Swiss, I speak Swiss-German quite well and without too much of an accent because I grew up with it, thanks to my mother who comes from Basel, and I've been working for several years in a Bernese German-speaking company.. and I had a German girlfriend. I'm always a little ashamed when I watch a Swiss-German politician speaking good German on the international stage 😅

The pronounciation of Gschtaad: It might be confusing because it is (like a lot of other words in that region) just one vocal sound and the other letters are consonants. So there isn't Geschtaad/ Gestaad.

She spoke high german because DW(Deutsche Welle) is a german yt channel. I live in Basel for 13 years now and i speak High German, Swiss german, English and learning french at the moment. I still have a 3 languages from my foreign home country Philippines and i still speak it until now. Being linguistic is an advantage.

There are three forms of German in Switzerland: Standard German (Hochdeutsch/High German), Swiss German (Mundart), and Swiss Standard German. Swiss Standard German is High German with Swiss vocabulary and its own sentence structure. It is often spoken when Swiss people talk to Germans or need to use High German.
