That's a common comment on this one. I didn't intend for it to look like tongs/pincers but that's how it turned out. Maybe I've made too many tongs.

As usual, I didn't know where you were going with this project, and your in-flight corrections to get the piece in your forge were, of course, ultimately incorporated into the piece, which I think is the mark of a real artist. As a old lady noob blacksmith with kitten strength, I have stuck to around 2.5 lb hammers. Nice to hear from someone I don't have to struggle with a 5 lb chunk of iron to get it done. Brass brushing effect is very elegant looking!

Hammer could be a “Champion De Arment” brand. They produced hammers from 1914 and are the inventors of channel lock pliers.

Energy = 1/2 m V^²...so a lighter hammer requires less effort to start swinging as you say, (F=mA)...But once you get it going the energy stored in its motion is by the velocity squared. The energy is what you dump into the receiving metal. Great topic about the choice of hammers. Thanks so much for another great video.

Your hammer explanation is “hit the nail on the head” I’ve been teased about my light hammer 800 g. (1.75 lb) but it moves the steel as quickly as a1 kg hammer especially with smaller steel stock. Thanks for another great video.

If you were to push those curved ends in just a little more and refine the curve, the corners would be heart shaped. That would add a little wimsy to the piece.

Add to that the accuracy issue between swinging heavy vs lighter weight. Watching FiF, you can observe some horrific hammering techniques of guys throwing giant hammers.

Since horses hoof need to flex , could you make shoes with a flat rivet in the toe . 1 or 2 sizes would be fitable to most horses ??

this is used to place a hot pan or pot on to protect the table (there is a second kind with longer legs that is used to cook over hot coals in a fire)

Could it be a "CHAMPION DEARMENT" hammer? That's the best name I could find that includes "ARMENT" proceeded by two letters. And it looks like they made ball peen hammers.
