It's finally here! Mark and I decided this winter to tear apart our buggies as the frames we were using were not safe. Mark bought a tube bender and we got to work! He took inspiration for his design from years of observing different frame designs on KZbin, and decided to construct his own freehand. This video shows my build process during our state's COVID-19 quarantine; I did not have Mark's fancy shop to aid my construction! I did make a few social distanced trips to the shop so he could chop out tabs on the CNC, but we really built our buggies independently during this time of uncertainty.
I wanted to see how much power we could throw at our swing arm setup, so I bought a Yamaha Raptor 700 rear end, Tusk Billet bearing housing, a Tusk chromoly extended racing axle, and lots of Tusk spacers... With the solid rear end and suspension geometry, it is an ideal drift vehicle as the buggy naturally oversteers. A correctly dialed IRS would be better for drifting, but this is the cheap and cheerful way to get started!
I've tried to include as much detail of our build process as possible; we've had a number of questions both online and in person that I hope this video answers!
Please leave a comment if you'd like to see something in particular, we will try and include in an upcoming video.
This is my favorite project to date. We finally took the time to build these buggies the RIGHT WAY. No more cutting corners with this amount of horsepower!
