Just bought one of these last week, moving from desk mounted wheel and monitors to the ART rig and separate triple monitor stand. The difference is night and day, already knocking 1 sec + off all my best laps and also helps with much better feel and control without everything shaking as you try to save a tail slide. Fantastic entry level rig 👍🏻

I'm 100% certain that the new CSL DD will be supported and catered for, after all it's the high torque that elevates the full size DD's above this rig's remit, whereas the CSL DD's strength will be equivalent to current gen CSL and CSWs, just with the improvements anticipated with DD technology. I would like to confirm this at the earliest opportunity!

I have owned the art for over two years now, I use a T300 wheel on it, it’s been great, yes thee is some movement, but it’s not detrimental to lap times. I also have the triple monitor stand which is also great, although a bit of a pain to get just right, but once set up it’s great. The only thing I would say it that there is some flex in the pedal plate, however it’s fine once you get used to it, it’s like having a bit of damping that’s all. It would be very easy to strengthen the plate though, and also very easy to totally eliminate the wheel base movement with a couple of side braces. Value for money, you can’t go wrong though, I have the XL seat, it’s big! So if you are under 6 foot, it’s gonna be way above your head at the back without a cushion on it. I think it would easily take the 5nm version of the new Fanatec dd wheel as well, it might be ok with the 8nm but I guess you’d have to try it for yourself. I use Simforge pedals and they work fine, but I’m going to strengthen the base plate with a thicker piece of steel and some heavier cross bars as it’s not really built for these kind of pedals.

I have the GT Omega ART with RS6 seat. Very similar setup to yours actually with the CSL Elite wheelbase and Clubsport V3 pedals although mine is on castor wheels and is rally focused with the handbrake, static shifter module, WRC wheel rim. Also mine doesn't haven't triple monitors as I wheel it in front of my 65" OLED Central to my surround sound home theatre. It's a great setup. I'm very happy with it, although I have been looking at GT Omega's Titan cockpit which seems to be a worthwhile step up. I'm also likely to get the CSL DD when it is released. The ART can handle equipment up to a good level, I would be happy running the CSL DD and Clubsport V3's on it forevermore, but I've since been granted a GT Omega Prime cockpit which is over twice the cost so my ART is enjoying early retirement. Good cockpit, served me really well.
@Granar.3 жыл бұрын
Great video and you're absolutely right that you can be competitive with a rig such as the ART. For me though, where possible I am a buy once kind of guy and whilst my current wheelbase (CSW 2.5) would be absolutely fine on an ART there is no doubt that at some point I will upgrade to DD, especially with the new bases coming out of Fanatec. With this in mind, I would rather just buy a rig that I know is fit for anything I can throw at it rather than losing money and time trying to sell used equipment; especially rigs that are expensive to ship. With a rig especially its unlikely to be something that becomes outdated, don’t see any reason why a proper 8020 couldn’t last you decades. Appreciate that not everyone has the ability to be able to do this but in my experience if you can it is definitely preferable.
@dannyleeracing3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and commenting man, 100%, if you have the budget there's absolutely no reason not to get an 8020. My target audience is those who have tighter budgets but want to be competitive and might feel that it's 'all or nothing' in order to do that, I'm out to prove it's not the case. When the time comes to go DD I'll make the jump but for now the CSL/ART pairing is killing it.
@Granar.3 жыл бұрын
@@dannyleeracing Absolutely, and thank you for doing that! Like many hobbies SimRacing encourages a strong case of GAS (gear acquisition syndrome) and there are quite a lot of people who are in the 'DD or nothing' crowd which is unfortunate as I think this may put quite a few people of trying to compete as they feel like their gear isn't good enough. Whilst there is no doubt that you get a better feeling of immersion from higher quality gear with the exception of a load cell brake I don't think it'll make you much faster out on track; plenty of people out there winning races with a G29! If anyone wants to take anything away from my rambling it is just that where possible please try and buy quality items that will last you a long time rather than cheaper items that will be disposed of after not much use. The amount of waste that we produce as a species is untenable and really needs to be addressed.

As a GT Omega ART owner everything you say is correct. I was considering an 8020 but seeing Karls video i felt comfortable the ART would surfice for my G923 wheel and Fanatec Clubsport V3 pedals and as mentioned any flex could be dialed out with a DIY solution One thing you did not mention was the longitudal flex.... press hard on the brake and the frame will bow at the insection where the wheel deck and seat part join. Whilst not an issue when driving it does make for a loud squeak/creaking noise - i resolved this problem by mounting the ART on two lengths of decking board using the M8 feet holes and then fitting locking casters so the whole frame is mobile when neeeded. I have now since replaced the G923 last month for the Fanatec CSL DD and am very happy to report the ART copes with this wheel base absolutely fine however i do have the wheel deck nearly as low as is can go into the frame so it is not set as high up as your setup

Jelly of the newer ART you have there. Mine's a first-generation with the MDF pedal deck, which isn't the best design either as it has no reinforcement to stop the pedal deck lifting at the front; the friend I got it from had to ziptie it down and send a couple of bolts through for good measure. Great rig otherwise, and I like the articulated keyboard tray so much that I just sold my desk and have been doing everything from the rig. Love it.

I'm not a sim racer but recently got into GT7 on PS5 having stopped racing GT5 on PS3 many years ago... The PS5 is really my sons but I have a 1/3rd ownership in it 😁 to play GT7. I had to get a new wheel as my old wheel (from the early 2000s) was not compatible. I got the Logitech G27 for now to get by. Not hugely impressed with the "dead spot" on the wheel's force feedback but it works for now. Ironically, I'm using it with an Ikea lawn chair from the mid 1990s (still going well and very comfy for racing position) and a fold away table (just like in your video), It's not great but works. So now thinking of the ART. I'm never going to get into hard core sims but I could see myself upgrading to a budget direct drive wheel like the Fanatec DD Pro PS5 and some point in the future. It looks like the ART (without chair) may be a go "beginner" stand that can grow with me and potentially take a lighter force DD wheel in the future without needing to change that out again. How stable would the ART be without the seat extension attached to it? I would just use it with my lawn chair for now and then potentially get a chair down the road..

Thanks for the information. I just bought the ART for my new Asetek Invicta hydraulic brakes and CSL DD 8nm wheel base. It looks like I might need to reinforce it. At least for the brake pedal. I really needed to persuade my wife for this cockpit and I'm afraid I'm going to really regret it. I'm not expecting to set the brake to the maximum 180 kilos of pressure in the software settings. 100 Kilos would do. If that would be possible? I watched Goslings video just before this one on how to make the wheel base part stronger. But I'm more worried about the brake pressure cockpit flex. We couldn't afford the TITAN or PRIME cockpit. Edit: The Asetek Invicta pedals are set 90 degrees by default to the bottom heel plate, so I could set the ART pedal plate completely flat and set the seat as low as possible. I hope this might help some what, and then test the brake pressure in the Asetek software.

For me I could have done with about 5 more degrees of tilt - other than that, the CSL DD and ART go fine together! I'd have been content to carry on with the ART had the Prime not been in hand at the time. The lack of tilt is fixable if you happen to have a body proportion that leaves you wanting a couple more degrees, but I haven't gotten around to exploring that in any detail or showing how it can be done. There could be an argument that as you're on the taller side, you would want the extra leeway that the ART can give you in terms of height adjustment, as the titan can't adjust the length/height of the steering column. I find/found the ART to be really good but I never tried the titan so I can't speak from experience. If you're also on the handy side as you say, the ART is easier to 'work' with as it's all box section rather than tubes, so if you really wanted to you could bolster it like how Karl did.

@dannyleeracing3 жыл бұрын
It is strong enough for it, but there is not a lot of pitch angle to tilt the wheel up and down, and because the CSL DD is designed to mount flat to the wheel plate it does mean you might need to modify it to get it to tilt up enough if you're really tall. Otherwise, it's certainly capable of holding it.

I haven't used a Titan so I can't speak from experience, unfortunately. The pedal mounting system for the Titan looks a little weak compared to the ART's, but the rigidity of the chassis in general looks better than the ART's. Tough choice, but given how the ART did a really good job for me and costs much less than the Titan, it's a reasonable choice. My reference for the Titan comes from Karl's videos such as this one: kzbin.info/www/bejne/sGjNmmpjaruor9U

Do you think the wheel base stand part has enough adjustment to accommodate for the new csl dd?
@dannyleeracing3 жыл бұрын
The wheel baseplate could do with tilting up a little more for tall people, but the actual stand itself has plenty of adjustability. I'm 6 foot and I could have done with a few degrees more tilt to be absolutely perfect, however it was plenty useable and it would also be fixable with some basic parts. Before I got round to doing that, I upgraded to the Prime but I'd have been happy sticking with the ART if that opportunity didn't come.

It handles a CSL DD fine, the only problem is that this cockpit doesn't have tremendous angle adjustment to tilt it up or down. Trak Racer sells a bracket that can solve the problem if it happens to affect you, for me I could have done with 5 more degrees of tilt than the ART could give with the CSL DD. I have a PRIME now!

Nice set up that should never really need an "upgrade". Get the 8nm boost kit for the DD. Depending on the cars and type of racing on wheel, the McLaren wheel is probably the best value wheel for the dollar that Fanatec offers. The McLaren wheel also even has a two stage clutch launch feature that you can set to give the hardest launch with the least amount of wheelspin. This feature is pretty much unheard of in any other wheel in this price range and it works well. But for Rally or Drifting you need a round wheel. Pretty much I would eliminate the H Shifter regardless and buy both wheels myself. Order the brake performance kit at the same time you order the v3 pedals saves you a bit on shipping and handling than if you order later and you probably will. More and more games the H shifter is actually used for fewer cars as most vehicles now use a manual sequential gearbox and the wheels shifter paddles work great. iRacing just eliminated the H shifter in the new Mazda MX5 build as the real life cars now use a sequential gear box. Also next year the Nascar cup series will be going to a sequential gear box as well. Getting close to where the H shifter will only be relevant for vintage racing. Basically with the above set up you should never really feel that you "NEED" to upgrade to be able to compete at a high level. I basically currently have the same set up but with the CSL Elite wheel which I have already preordered the new 8nm CSL DD wheelbase. My current CSL Elite wheelbase will join my CSL Elite loadcell pedals which are regulated for backup duty if there ever is a need. I am very pleased with the quality and level of my gear and for me with the new DD will be my endgame set up.

@@billwiley7216 thanks for the replay. H pattern shifet i will most likley skip, and if the budget is enuff i will add the Mckaren wheel, need a round wheel for most driving i will be doing. @@dannyleeracing okay well let’s just that from other reviewers they said that the g pro pedals are very similar to the v3s and for the stiffest options I can go between 18-19mm of pedal travel. Hopefully that’s gives you a good idea. Would the Titan be a better option over this ? Apparently lots of guys use higher end pedals for that including you when you used your Heusinkveld sprint pedals. I’m not that tall for a guy but I just want to make sure that it doesn’t feel too narrow in the Titan because it looks like it’s quite narrow to me and I’m a bit on the broader side for my body type.

Yes you can - it's possible for me to move the seat far enough forward to have the steering wheel almost lodged into my ribcage so if that's important to you then it'll be fine. @dannyleeracing3 жыл бұрын
It can take the CSL DD very well, the main issue it has is that you can't tilt the wheel plate up very high because the CSL DD has 0 degrees tilt whereas normal low-mid range wheels have like 10 degrees built-in tilt. This just means it would need customising to tilt up any higher if it was a serious problem, but otherwise it's fine to take a CSL DD.
