GT3 Carbon Ceramic brakes on my RWB 964 Turbo Porsche 911?

Will GT3 PCCB carbon-ceramic brakes fit my 964 Turbo? Well, we won't know that until later, but for now I can at least see if my wheels will fit over them. So Al brings his 996GT3 into work so I can try my wheels on it. His 996.2 GT3 originally had PCCB brakes & he's converted to steel discs.

Mr. Al is a BALLER to run Magnesium E88's on track days/hoon days! My dream wheels...and dream cars all in one video. So GOOD! Only you Phil can mod a perfectly modded car and make it better. PCCB on a RW porsche??? This is may be the most capable track RW in existence. I feel you about the dust though, I had polishied lips on my BBS LM's and I was cleaning them after every drive. With the clear coat gone I had to be obsessive. Truly annoying and I was nervous that if I didn't clean it the lips would just corrode. I like Al's commentary with you its what car guys want to listen in on. Were you trying to pass Al on that track day? 996 GT3 and driver mod is definitely a slept on setup these days with the 997's and 991's so effortlessly capable.

Is it uncommon for cars to lift both sides at once with the rear jacking point? Most of my cars have done that. Brembo makes carbon ceramic replacement rotor rings & pads for the race kits - its very likely the replacements exist for what you have; call them and they can probably get you sorted for less than a used gt3 ceramic kit and then you wont end up having to use painted calipers that come with dust boots... best of luck!

Where can I buy ceramic discs for Porsche 911 ? I'm from Brazil, thanks

I just gathered the bits through Ebay. It is a bit risky buying used CCB though as they are easy to damage and hard to to see if they are worn out sometimes.

The following suggestion is a BIG job -- but pull the wheels apart (HA - that and re-assembly is the BIG job component) and clear anodise the shiny outer sections. On one of my older 930's (HA - back when 17" BBS rims were MONSTERS) - the outer barrel was put in the lathe and I used a fine Scotch-Brite pad to impart a brushed type finish - voila - HA - no more polishing and in my opinion - I preferred it to the high shine like finish (HA - I am an 'anti chrome - anti polish' person = I do NOT like shiny stuff). Being that you guys do a lot of project type work - setting up your own anodising system could be very handy - especially with your DAMN salted roads. I have also used clear anodising on aluminium spoked motorcycle rims on some HD engined projects - EXCELLENT virtual maintenance-free outcome (HA - that is PERFECT for me as I am a 'set & forget' type person = make it PERFECT - then USE it EVERY DAY without any concerns - HA - or polishing). Once anodised or brushed - all I use is the pressure washer every now and again at the local carwash = NO polishing = NO problems = MORE high speed and LOUD driving//riiding time - HA. Have a nice day all. CHEERS from AUSTRALIA.

True - HA - but the anodosing//brushed is perfect for a somewhat lazy perfectionist as I am. HA - and helps saves aluminium rims when the dam dogs piss on the wheels - HA. Stay safe - have a nice day

Phil, it's weird to see you're running negative caster.
@driftworks
@driftworks 4 жыл бұрын
It's not negative 👍The shock is angled that way, but the pivot points are all that matters. Draw a line from the lower ball joint to the top mount ball joint & it's positive. The car has 4.5* positive castor.

@markchip1

The answer seems entirely straightforward - You need a pad that releases less dust - go on the forums of various performance marques and research "low dust pads". For the likely consequence of reduced braking force - just upgrade to a bigger set of rotors (and matching calipers) from a quality brand that will fit inside the wheels. Now, I will watch the rest of the video to see how you chose to fix this issue...

Low dust pads are generally super dangerous for spirited driving in my experience. I very nearly wrote a car off using EBC Green Stuff pads.

If the new tyres are a step back would cutting one more groove in them help?
@driftworks

That's not something you do on a road tyre. It would be the wrong way to go anyway, it seems the grooves on the supersport may be a big part of the issue.

You have 2 BMW track cars + CSL double duty, Porsche double duty (and a 991 GT according to this video?), Lamborghini GT car. Pursuing mastery with one car on track would be so much more cost effective than running 6 track cars. I guess when you have these types of vehicles that won't depreciate it's a completely different calculation.

i recently had to deal with a brake dust issue on my vantage. the OEM pads are Pagids and the amount of brake dust they created in a very short time was unacceptable to me. i suppose it was a consequence of their performance oriented nature. anyway, i don't need nor want performance oriented brake pads so i bought and installed some everyday type, mundane brake pads that now create very little brake dust and am thoroughly satisfied. a bonus is that they cost next to nothing compared to the Pagids.
@driftworks
@driftworks 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah there are definitely lower dust pads out there. I've not had good experience with them though. They don't support 'spirited driving' well.
