I agree with you on the air intake no need to change it out. If I owned a Mach 1 I'd put long tubes, cams and a tune and be happy 😊

Great advice. K&N fan here…have run them on everything for years. But your right. Save your money…After watching countless videos about aftermarket CAI’s I’m not convinced they are worth the cost. Most Dyno testing is done open hood anyway…And those that pick up big power are accompanied by a tune which increases cost even more…
@TonysFordsandMustangs2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! I think the tune and less restrictive air filter are where they pick up 90% of the HP. Some the the CAI are priced from $250 to $400 and that too much for to little return. Unless you are throwing other power ads at the car.

I have noticed idling for a bit comparatively the IAT stayed a little cooler with the factory air box. However I think if you have a boosted application or even have a tune to turn up AFRs that a aftermarket intake is more justified. Awesome vid! 👍🏻

I love that old school mach1 in your garage. That thing looks clean and is one of my dream cars. I used to have a 2003 mach1 but it’s hard to make those cars faster the only thing they really offered was a centrifugal type blower and I know when they first came out they had a root type blower but the car wasn’t the best but that was my first Mustang so I loved it but it wasn’t really that fast
@TonysFordsandMustangs2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I had a 03 Mach 1 as well. I had Ford Racing cams, long tube headers, and a tune done to the car. It was decent. Not fast but good for the era. My 70 is a 52 year old car that was also decent for it's era. By today's standards it's a farm tractor but I still enjoy it for the nostalgia and it get plenty of thumbs up whenever I drive it.

There really isn't much of a point in changing any part of the intake on the Mach 1. It already has the 2nd best manifold you can buy (after Cobra Jet), with a bigger throttle body, and "upgraded" CAI. Exhaust, headers, or forced induction is the only mods that would be worth the time and money. Even a Cobra Jet isn't going to yield a tremendous HP increase, and for the money, isn't worth it. On a GT, yes, Mach 1, NO.

Everything I’ve read says the airaid filter filters a lot better than the crappy paper one.
@TonysFordsandMustangs5 ай бұрын
An Airfaid will breath better certainly and I have one on my car. That said they won't filter as well as the paper ones. The point of the video was to tell people not to waste $$ on a Cold Air intake.
@ArmadenRestal2 жыл бұрын
I bought that same Airaid filter. Because I want more performance? No. Because it's blue and matches my Mach 1. Yes. lol I agree though, aftermarket CAI is a waste on the Mach 1 without other mods. Now on my GT it's a whole other story.

Hey Tony, did u ever remove the drivers side grille vent and ran it open for a ram air effect? I was thinking about that the other day, meant to ask you. Thanks Anthony
@TonysFordsandMustangs7 ай бұрын
No sir I have not. I do drive my car quite often and I almost prefer that there be something there to help block rain or leaves or other debris from entering the air filter box. I think any gain would be minimal at best. I noticed no difference on my 2013 Boss which had easily removable vent covers and that was on a track. IF these were easy to remove (which they are not0 would do as I did with the Boss and remove them at a track or dragstrip. Thanks for watching!

Do you know if there is a part number for the river top part? Don’t know anyone with a bullit or Mach 1 where I could check their car. There is a part number for the gt500 cover that can fit on these intakes. But I like the look of it open with my blue filter for shows.

What about OEM vs WIX?
@TonysFordsandMustangs Жыл бұрын
Guy, Firstly Thank you for watching. Wix is a great filter and there is issue with all paper filters. The better the filter the more restrictive to air flow it is. This video was more about aftermarket Cold Air Intakes versus the OEM open airbox. I think the aftermarket CAI are not a just not good return for your $. As to filters I am now running and Airaid filter but I know that is not as good a filter (actually removing fine particles of debris from the air) as the OEM or say a WIX. I actually swap out filters depending on the task at hand. Everyday & long distance I use the EOM (I only at 5k miles) for track use the Airaid goes in. I would think the improvement with just filter swap is multiples of any CAI system. I hope that clears up things somewhat.
@guyderagisch4964 Жыл бұрын
@TonysFordsandMustangs I'm currently developing an airbox to run the GT350 filter on a hot hatch, Steeda has a video on dyno tests with different and the OEM filter allowed 432 or so and aftermarket filters made 4 to 6 hp more with no difference in tq. So this filter will do just fine on a 270-340 hp turbo 4 without sacrificing filtration.
@AdapeGaming Жыл бұрын
I got a gt y’all think the gt350 intake kit that forx performance offers is worth it??????
@TonysFordsandMustangs Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. I think you meant the Ford Performance kit? I actually think your money would be better spent elsewhere. You would see a large improvement on the intake side with just a HP air filter for a fraction of the $. Really all cold air intake kits offer little HP upgrade from the intake itself. Most Dyno tests you see will be with the hood up and with an HP filter added as part of the kit. Most of us don't drive without a hood and the filter is the biggest part of the upgrade. Ford OEM air boxes are pretty decent at getting air to the engine that includes the GT. Ford OEM shorty headers are restrictive and and set of long tube headers and a HP filter would get you gains hood up or down. They are more pricey and not an easy install but you would see an actual gains for your $ and time invested. Best of luck
