Fantastic video mate, so many valid points👌 Ive heard the G99 is over 2.5 tons meaning the G90 Sedan will be around the 2.5 tons... Sure we will find out soon! I find it so ironic that these poor top flight manufacturers and mind bending engineers have been forced into building these tanks in order to apparently help save our planet!?!?!

My problem with these companies is that they are so power focused with their cars now days they just seem to disregard every other aspect of the driving experience. As long as it has a big hp number to advertise I guess the car is perfect. Chassis is uncommunicative, steering is numb and heavy, sound is muted, weighs a house, but HEY we have a TON of horsepower. Once car companies start realizing horsepower isn’t as important as they make it out to be where they’re just chasing numbers, I feel like these systems will start to show its true benefits. The main focus on these hybrid systems should be its efficiency with power delivery and not its horsepower numbers, like a more efficient turbocharger. you hear stories about how these hybrid system put power down so sluggishly compared to a regular turbocharger and it makes you wonder what is even the point of these hybrid power plants if they can’t even improve on the tech we’ve had for over 30 years???. But at the same time I can’t blame them for doing such cause I guess the higher number is how modern day car enthusiasts gauge how much better one car is over the other.

Well said! This constant pursuit of figures that can never be used in any practical way when driving on the road is now really pointless. I like my car on so many levels but mostly because of where it takes me….how it feels as regards, ride, handling, steering feel, what it looks like, costs to run…THOSE matter…not a bonkers 0-60 which makes you feel ill and tears the car to bits plus wrecks the tyres. Raz describes the performance well but these cars are out of touch with why you buy, own and KEEP a car…..old dinosaurs fighting to stay alive.🤔🙂🙂

Same reason everything must be an SUV now: Because vulgar people buy that stuff. "My car is bigger than yours! My car has more power than yours!" etc. etc. And then they're being overtaken by someone in an Alpine A110 with 252hp because that's a much lighter, better handling car.

I agree, but the point arounud sound being muted is typically out of the manufacturers control. Now, some are better than others. AMG have done a great job dealing with OPF compared to recent BMWs (the M4 is silent compared). But without regulations, I'm sure they'd all be great.

We are getting to watch a very interested business case study in progress. Mercedes is trying to direct their customers where they want the company togo, not where the customers want to go. I believe they would have known that the first iterations would get a level of pushback and that they'd have to push through it. How long their plan is, and how much pushback they can tolerate will be interesting to find out.

Great topic of discussion Raz, I dint watch the entire AMG review as I have switched to an M5 last few years. My main concern is if you take a road trip in one of these Hybrids, after 2-3 hours of driving you will be out of juice, and a combustion engine with less power than the generation behind it, and the added weight? Then we have to charge it up again? I cant go through that....

I look back at this video, and see how spot on you were about this. I'd love for you to go back on this topic after the G90 M5 road test. As you know it's a 5390lb German tank. Your visualization with the side grilles is something I wished the actual car had... as opposed to a charging port...

tax benefits are heavy all around the world for phev (as they are mostly considered electrics). Where I live, I've been waiting for the SL63E and the GT(2DR)E forever. Being electric gives you that green plate that comes with lots of tax benefits (most of the car becomes tax deductable for my business) and a big step up un QOL (reserved lanes that save 20min+ in traffic, reserved parking) and more.

Awesome video.. and at a technical angle everyone has seemingly ignored... 5:10 I think for the most part it is a big con full power for less than 10 seconds is a joke.. and the extra weight that's there permanently for the most part it just ends up being a glorified battery carrier... which would make it wear out its consumables faster.. only upside would be the lesser tax .. due to the hybrid... but all things considered your better of with the non hybrid and a stage 2 tune with the merc... those engines are good for 1000hp easily.... and yh god help the poor sod who has to service the e performance in a few years...
@arminfischer5777
@arminfischer5777 Жыл бұрын
The 10 seconds is not really relevant. In most cases there is no way to accelerate for more than 10 seconds full load before you arrive at a speed limit or a corner. And after a few seconds the full power is available again. I was driving with the P3 Powertrain several times in different sport scenarios and I’ve never met the 10s power limit

Porsche's hybrid which will require no charging seems to be the best idea in their upcoming 994 911s(if it happens that soon). Having to charge and put petrol in your car seems silly to me. I like the idea EVs, but I think hybrids are really the future. The combination in supercars really emphasizes the marriage of both worlds, it’s something like the new Prius emphasizes the marriages in both worlds as well. Of course, something like me is driving a 2022 Toyota 4Runner neither high-level, speed, performance, or average acceleration performance, with good gas mileage. I focus on the smiles per gallon 😊

This battery concept is the same as Porsche: when in the comfort mode the battery gets drained quickly because it’s trying to stay efficient as possible, which means using battery. However, when battery gets too low or you switch to sport or race mode, the ICE ramps up and charges the battery. This is why the mpg is so horrible in these so called “hybrid.” The ICE runs harder to keep the battery at certain level at all times and to keep fully charged when driving fast.

They're not destined to suck. They're destined to be IMPOSSIBLE to service & repair in 5-6 yrs, completely negating any "green" nonsense which only drooling idiots could believe. In a few years, there will have to be entire cities built to give room for enough new junkyards for these disposable throwaway pieces of sh*t. I try so hard to watch your videos on these....things, & I love your channel, but the philosophies behind the engineering here is just sickening. Money-grabs for those dumb enough to buy them. A fool & his money....

i would rather drive a 6.3 v8 or 5.5 biturbo anyday of the week vs this what is the point of these new design they are no longer worth it sad to say it but bmw is taking the crown at the moment mercedes is strictly luxury and are making crappy looking cars with no aggressive look everything looks soo round no body lines no fender flares they have the lowest aftermarket mod selection and super over priced it's disgraceful .... RIP AMG 1967-2016

Neither one thing, nor another. Which is the case with all Merc offerings right now. Not an EV horsepower beast, or an analog pleasure for ICE fans. And as EV takes over, these complex, expensive to maintain, undesirable hybrids, will depreciate faster than the Titanic. Merc have all the best components for making a car, EV or ICE, but can't put them together into a single memorable automobile.

IMO they could just drop the v8 and use the new i6 instead with the hybrids, sounds a lot better anyway.
