For some, it doesn't matter what they do, it doesn't matter if they leave their old home alone, things always turn out bad. I love that there is no happy ending in GTA IV. Niko will either lose everything he has for the money or lose everything he could yet have had for revenge. Clever of Rockstar to use the (at the time) actions have consequences mechanics to mess you up either way, doing the deal for Roman and Pegorino leaves Dimitri alive to betray you again, but killing Dimitri ruins Pegorino, leaving him wanting revenge of his own. Having the long term antagonist as the villain of the final mission A REVENGER'S TRAGEDY may be appealing but OUT OF COMMISSION feels like the natural conclusion to a game where everyone in the city where everyone has been following each other's moves. It feels right not to allow Dimitri to betray us again and to have Jimmy, the other big mover in the city having lost everything because of the story and Niko's betrayal. Everyone finds out the consequences of their actions in the cannon ending.

This game stuck with me in a way that GTA V never could. GTA IV for me was perfect in almost every way from the story, to the tone of the writing and the city itself feeling so much more alive and detailed. Also interiors were fun to explore as opposed to GTA V where every bloody building in the city aside from convenience stores are closed

Especially after playing OUT OF COMMISSION and seeing Jimmy Pegorino's death, I honestly found Dimitri's death scene in A REVENGER'S TRAGEDY to be quite disappointing, Niko almost tries to understand him, A DISH SERVED COLD was a far better ending for Dimitri. I know some people don't like that Dimitri isn't the canon final villain, but Pegorino has been in the background of the story since Niko started working for Packie McReary and I think that after finding Darko Brevic and killing Dimitri Rascalov the two men who ruined him, it's fitting that the final villain is the one story character that Niko ruins. Pegorino was the perfect way to end a GTA game that from the start emphasized that actions have consequences.
