I literally drove out to Vaughan to pick up my GTA Car Kit right after registering my 2005 RX-8 at the MTO. I installed it myself in about 30min. The kit works perfectly. This video was extremely helpful. He's not joking when he says be careful not to drop the bolt in the back. Dropped mine while putting the radio back together and I'm pretty sure it vanished into a blackhole inside my dash. Put it back together without and it seems secure. I would recommend this to anybody with this car.

For anyone looking to install this kit or one similar. If you pause the video at 9:27 and look to the left of the hand brake you will see a little plastic piece that looks like it pops on and off, luckily enough it does, I just took that piece off and fed the wire through, cut a little notch in and and popped it back on. If you have the AT version you will likely have difficulty stuffing the module in the center console but it is doable! I just run all the extra wire to the back compartment and run the actual Auxiliary cable back out the same hole. It looks good for what it is and is easily accessible.

In the video it states that the software should be V9.82 or higher? However, in the comments section it shows Radio software level should be V9.55. Can you please clarify this? I want to buy this kit, however, my car has only V9.55.

Does this come in Lightening cable versions? I may be trading in my 2010 mazda 3 for a 2004 RX8 next week and want to get this after I do, but I don't use anything with the 30 pin dock cable. Or even just a USB input version would do. My friend has it in his 2008 lancer, but he doesn't know where it's from (came with the car)

3.5mm jack is just for sound, you wont be able to control songs through the radio.

Just installed mine yesterday. 2005 sutomatic rx8 with gps, bose system. It took me about an hour to do. The hardest part was getting all of the clips to come off of the back of the radio as they prevented me from pulling the head unit out any more than about 2 inches. I am very happy with the GTA car kit though. It works great and would recommend it to anyone.

Just installed it in my '06 today, and my factory radio unit would not slide out more than halfway because there was an external cd changer cable already plugged into the slot that the GTA Kit uses. The factory cable had no extra play, so I just forced the radio unit out (causing the cable to unplug). I plugged in the GTA Unit and all of my speakers, steering wheel controls, radio, and cd player are still fully functional. Just a heads up for anyone that might run into this problem in the future.

I installed it on my 04 RX8 and it works but the one problem that I have is that the display on the radio stopped working. Like everything on the radio went out and I can't use it. I can't switch or use any of the buttons on it. I can only use the steering wheel buttons. Any idea how I can fix this?

Also I can't use the a/c buttons. I can only use the speed and the temp dials. Otherwise all of the buttons are useless now. Any idea what may have gone wrong? I did everything you guys did but once I turned on the car, that's where things got weird.

gohangan Hey Man!! I had the same problem, and it's because the display screen got disconnected. What you need to do is disconnect the display and make sure is properly connected. Good luck!!

It's all in how you take care of it. There's not too much to it but don't research if it's bad or not.. Research how to take care of it...

If you know how to treat it, it'll treat you well. Most RX8s either make it past 20k miles and drive for years, or break within the first 20k due to people not driving them properly. Just read up on it on forums like the rx8club.
