@@frankyy8891 the point is PS3 memory divided into vram and ram 256x256 megs, but the x360 has unified ram, which can be divided according to the needs of ram/vram using in definite game. So, x360 can use more than 256 megs of vram. You can clearly see the difference in such games as Mafia 2, Bayonetta, RDR, etc, where developers has to reduce resolution, framerate, or level of detail to make the game run smoothly on the PS3.

@@DFEAudio Yeah, I got so used to 60fps from pc gaming from 2016 to 2020 (after my ps4 broke for the 3rd time I decided to get a pc) that when I got a ps5 and played bloodborne again that my eyes hurt (bad fps drops even on ps5, no ps4 pro patch for that game) but after like 2 hours and playing it a couple times I got used to it (smoking a little weed helped too, it must have slowed down my brain to 30fps, haha)

As a teenager, I really liked the PS3 version because that blur hides a lot of imperfections, like texture pixelation, some janky geometry, and often poor render distance. It ironically was like a gloss over the screen that blended things together more and made it look more real, like camcorder footage from the mid 2000's. I know better now that I'd rather have HD above all else, but it's nice to reminisce on how blown away I was in 2008.

@@referenccc The PS3 was much harder to code for than the X360. Look at games like Uncharted 1 and compare it to 2 and then 3, you'll notice how much better it runs and looks. The PS3 was almost perfected around the time the PS4 was already almost launching. A perfect example is The Last Of Us and most of the late-life games, including GTA V like you mentioned. :)

If you ever checked out the PS3's exclusives you can clearly see the PS3 is much more capable than the Xbox 360 if you knew how it's hardware works. Killzone 2 had motion blur, & amazing Visual Effects. Metal Gear Solid 4 made use of the Blu-Ray disc making it's 30 minute - 1 hour long cutscenes possible which would take about 6 DVDS on the 360. The Last of Us looked like a PS4/Xbox One game.

its not simply optimization, its the way it was made. This game's code is spaghetti, the amount of code running at any given time in the physics engine alone, done in such a proprietary pieced together engine, its shocking it even functions. The fact that it does is glorious. I don't blame Rockstar for pulling the engine back and streamlining so much of it. It was necessary.

Not gonna lie, I prefer the shadows on the console versions. The latest patch changed the shadows on PC to the ones shown in the video and they don't look good at all. Yes, they look less blurry, but have you paid attention to shadows in real life? They very rarely look as sharp as the ones in the PC version. Most of the time, they look blurry like on the console versions (especially PS3, since they seem to flicker less than on 360). The 1.0.4.0 PC patch has the old blurry shadows, which look much better and realistic than the new ones. Hell, the new shadows look like they're just painted on the floor at times. Also, I highly recommend setting the water quality to medium, anything higher looks like some weird liquid instead of actual water.

I own ps3. Completed gta iv way back on a 360 when I was 10. Now I'm 19 and I'm replaying it on ps3 without cheat codes. I've come to a simple 2 word solution about the graphics because they are very hard to go unnoticed even if you try hard to not notice how bad it looks. But I just say fuck it and play the story because it's still an amazing story line and Niko Bellic has got to be the best gta character rockstar ever made

For this game a higher resolution and sharpness didn't exactly mean 'better'. They implemented the blur filter on the ps3 to hide aliasing and cover up the 'imperfections' as they called it. For this reason many review sites actually thought the ps3 version looked better than the 360, because it meant anti aliased looking graphics and less dithering, along with the superior lighting which was used (fp16 I believe). However it's not to everyone's taste and there were many who didn't like the filter. It's all a matter of preference but the 360 was only 'better' on the technical side, not exactly in motion.

Thanks to the CELL APU that had crazy architecture and devs couldn't really make optimizations that would keep the look without hurting CPU and GPU performance. PC version had poor optimization for a variety of reasons. It had a lot of bad code and there's still very trivial bugs with the engine, like not locking the physics to a specific framerate. LEGO Island was infamous for the same exact issue.

Something that you can't see in the video for the 360 version is the absolutely insane amount of input lag on those OG wireless controllers. That coupled with the first generations of HDTV's and you probably had a good 1/2 of a second moving the analog stick and seeing something happen.

All these years i've played GTA 4 only on PC and had not realized how much less atmospheric it is compared to the console versions. Like there are entire visual effects missing on PC. R* did the same with previous GTA's too. Resolution, texture quality and few extra details aside, Vice City and San Andreas overall just look so much better on PS2 than PC.

From playing both the PS3 and X360 versions of GTA 4; X360: Smoother frame rate and slightly brighter colours and you don't have to worry about the clicking on the SIXAXIS tutorial by mistake if you're using cheats, glitches are also easier to do such as the swingset glitch. PS3: On par with X360 although slightly darker colours which fits with the dark tone of Niko's character. Frame rates tend to fluctuate especially during shootouts with police and multiple explosions. The SIXAXIS can be a cool feature but I've never used it and can be a nightmare as it is so easy to click on accidently. Both versions in my opinion are pretty much the same although X360 has less aliasing than the ps3 but still great on both systems

Edit: Ps3 version was much harder to develop than X360 but Rockstar did a brilliant job with GTA 4. Also on EFLC the PS3 version's frame rate issues have been improved, not perfect but better than GTA 4 but there is still a considerable amount of aliasing

That's pretty accurate. The framerate issues exist on both though the 360 maintains it higher generally.

Runs generally well on the PS3 just when there is a lot of action going on at the one time such as high speeds, multiple explosions and extreme shootouts the frame rate slows down slightly but it's not off putting

@@hughes1011 Yeah it's never bothered me hugely either. A rock solid framerate is always good but as long as it's playable that's the main thing for me. With this game I'm not sure a higher framerate like the 360 has is necessarily an advantage because when it does drop, it'll be more noticeable from a higher number.

One thing I've noticed from the PS3 version is if you have the camera close to niko's face and have him face a wall you can see inside his head, you can see his eyes and his mouth moving around I thought it was hillarious

GTA IV and Red Dead Redemption did not render at 720p like they did on the Xbox 360 because the PS3 needed special optimization. Improvements in Rockstar's later games on the same console generation, Max Payne 3 and GTAV, do not show this disparity. L.A. Noire also looked excellent on PS3 but used a different engine from Team Bondi, a studio with past ties to Sony.

That's a great comparison. Would you say that the PC version has major differences? I think I prefer the "Vaseline" filter which is also available on PC. You obviously removed it, but I usually keep it, but supersample the resolution in order to gain some sharpness back. It looks more like console.

tengo entendido que la version de PS3 no corre en HD de forma nativa como la version de Xbox 360 sino que reescala la imagen a 720p y le aplica un filtro bastante malo porque no solo volvia la imagen mas borrosa sino que fallaba eliminando el efecto de "dientes de sierra" que se podia apreciar casi siempre... igual esto creo que era porque se desarrollo primero la version de Xbox 360 y porque en ese entonces era muy complicado programar en PS3 lo que llevo a que sus primeros juegos fueran graficamente pobres...

It's crazy how I didn't notice the low resolution and graphics on Xbox 360 until a few years into the games release. And didn't even actually see full resolution, vanilla HD, PC gameplay until like a year ago. The difference is astronomical. I'm playing GTA IV for the first time on my PS3 and the graphics are even better than the PC version in this video. What is the secret? First I'm using the Dynamic image mode option on my Samsung 4K TV. Second I enabled Deep Color Output (HDMI) option in the PS3 display settings and RGB Full Range (HDMI) in full. Third I made small increases in the options of contrast, brightness and saturation in the game menu. The difference from what I saw in this comparison here is incredible!

Man without a doubt GTA iv would look spectacular on ps3 if didn’t take that 10 to 20 percent hit in resolution darkening its textures and detail and blurring them, as well from being potentially downscaled from 640p then upscaled to 720p however that works since its a non existent native resolution within TVs or simply being upscaled to 1080p depending on preference. GTA IV would look fantastic simply because the textures and details and warmer colors look quite good not as good as pc(soft bright colors are always the best)it would look better than 360’s yellowish and pale lighting and dull colors. In any case they all have they’re advantages and it’s a old game to begin in with so there’s not much you can do anyhow
