I was there on 360, can vouch. I stopped playing for a few years after the great money wipe at the end of that year, because they had taken all of my regular cash along with the money that was dropped into the accounts by the modders. It was unjust, I never asked for that to happen and there was no way to prevent it. Came back for a bit when the heists were finally released then took another few years off shortly after again. The most memorable part for me from original GTA Online I think was because back then there was so little to do, when I would get bored I would post up at the top of the big construction area (you know, that skyscraper that they’ve been working on since Day 1 where no progress has yet to be made) and just snipe people as they drove by. To me back then that was probably the most fun to be had.

I feel like 2015-2017 was the strongest point for GTA Online because of how many great DLCs there were during that time and although the Criminal Enterprises was a fairly small DLC compared to others, it will always be one of my favorites because not only are all businesses now fully accessible in private lobbies but it gives me a lot of things to do in freemode without getting destroyed by MKIIs and it gives me a bit of nostalgia because I now do a lot of stuff within those businesses that I haven't done for over 3 years (basically before the Casino and Cayo Perico Heists were added).

I remember way back when gta 5 came out me and my buddy used to just grind crate drops and armoured trucks
@SquawkGamingYT2 жыл бұрын
While I didn’t start on day one, I do remember a lot of GTAO’s history. I myself started playing GTAV at the very end of 2014 when I got a PS4, and started playing online in February 2015, a month before the Heists update. I also still remember the Armored Trucks from the old Freemode events. I wish the old events remained and were mixed up with the new ones. I do remember the VIP Organizations for which you needed $1,000,000 (a lot of money for me back then), and the 4 hour timer, cooldown was 12 hours after that. Further Adventures in Finance & Felony was the first update that I was really hyping up for. I started liking how you collect crates and then sell them. Just takes long to fill your warehouses up, especially with those 3-crate-drop missions. The Bikers update was something that I only started some time after it came out. The most hated part of that are the raids that if when failed removes all of your product from the Business. Same with Import/Export, I didn’t start with that until a few weeks after it came out. The reason for that is that I was focusing a lot on high school at that time. It eventually became my main income source in 2017, having made more than $100 million from it. Then Gunrunning came around. I remember when that was announced 3 months before, so that’s when I actually started grinding, as in making good money. I really liked the Bunker business (and still do so today), and yes, I remember that it was mostly jets that were used as the main griefing vehicle, before the Oppressor replaced that. Smuggler’s Run was a surprise for me as well. Right as the Gunrunning content ended they announced it 5 days around the road. But the Hangar business became the worst business in my opinion and still remains so to this day. I remember how hard for example that Avenger setup was in The Doomsday Heist. I spent so many times doing that one. The best thing of the heists was indeed the 2-player possibility. Orbital Cannon became the stupidest thing that was ever added to GTA Online. SSASSS update came as a surprise, and yeah I wasn’t really that excited for it either. I really liked After Hours, except the popularity system, which you needed to do TEN (!) missions for it to fill up, or rebook DJs for $100k each. Nightclub Warehouse was the best thing this update added. It was also the last cargo business added. The Oppressor Mk II is the second stupidest thing added after the Orbital Cannon. I did like the Client Jobs, especially since how you can mix them up with VIP/CEO work, and the Terrorbyte which let you source crates without constantly going to the office all the time. Arena War was really bad. I mean I liked some game modes, but the Arena Ranks (ONE THOUSAND OF THEM) was the worst thing of that update, because you need to play DAYS and DAYS of Arena War and it would take forever if you aimed to hit rank 1000. The Diamond Casino & Resort was a good update, but yeah the Lucky Wheel shouldn’t have been locked. I feel bad for those players who were left out of most of that update. The Diamond Casino Heist was a really good “consolation prize” for those players. The way these heists were structured made me keep playing those heists. Los Santos Summer Special was what it was, an average small update. Very understandable looking back at how COVID-19 changed our lives completely. The Cayo Perico Heist really made its promise of being the biggest update ever (as announced in July 2020) true. It build on the casino heist, and the solo playability was what I like the most of that update, I’ve done most of my Cayo Perico heists solo. It also added the Master Control Terminal, which eliminated going to all of your MC Businesses/Bunker to buy supplies. A 10 minute chore was reduced to a 10-second pit stop at the Arcade. Only thing I hate with it is that you can get raided when you do this. The LS Tuners update was a good update, I most liked the Auto Shop contracts. The Contract DLC built on that, and I really like that Franklin was in that update. One of the few updates in which story mode was integrated into Online. The Criminal Enterprises was a very good DLC. The best thing of it was selling in those private lobbies, because you don’t have to worry about those toxic people that you encounter in public lobbies. Only sucks how they nerfed Cayo Perico. And that wraps up my history of playing GTA Online over the last 7 and a half years out of this game’s 9 year existence.

So from 2015 to 2018 i pretty much watched gta online from youtube rather then play it myself and i always wished of doing modded amazing car races,deathruns and crazy activities with a lot of friends and people but unfortunatelly the expectations didnt meet reality since i didnt have more then a couple of friends to play with and other friends met in gta which i lost contact to. I m glad i made friends with people in gta even if not all lasted but i enjoyed it. But nowadays i barely play it because it just feels old,the lobbies are toxic often times and nobody plays anything outside free mode stuffs so no car races and no heists. I enjoyed gta online but not as much as i wanted and i will be always nostalgic about this game and story mode which cheered me up in some times in high school days. This game will always resemble my teenage years between joy and unrealized stuff. I will remember this game with his pause menu theme as nostalgic as this game But last thing:about gta online even i played like few times a year i remember i played the day the home heist dropped and i remember beside the hype on it also the trolls:a lot of people used to quit lobby as 4/4 reached,like the hosts used to do that or scummy people quitted in general i remember it was common

And the custom server browsers will of course continue running. It’s still super fun even to this day and crazy how much content was added. 🎉🎉

I really appreciate this retrospective on the online updates. I'm new to GTA Online , and really dont understand most of what's going on half the time 😅. its nice to at least know when things were updated and what was added. I still really wish updates were more integrated with story mode, but maybe that's an overstated take.

I remember trying GTAO in 2013... it was horrible. Not being able to connect to lobbies, nothing much to do in lobbies besides contact missions and hard to make any real money to buy things... then my character was deleted so I stopped playing until 2019 with the casino update. I was working in a casino at that time so I was curious to see a casino in game. I was shocked by how different gtao was from the failures of 2013. Thankfully R* never gave up on GTAO (unlike with RDO) and was able to sustain this game with so many updates that it flourished into the game it is today.
@mpzakhaevski89882 жыл бұрын
Which also doesn't make sense from Rockstar in terms of abandoning RDO, when you have horrid servers, glitches and meh content you can't expect a GTA Online 2.0 without putting the updates in

14 eh? So i guess it's always been a kids game and that parents have always been bad parents.
@Dudeli2 жыл бұрын
@@kayla-Rey22 Wouldn‘t call it a kids game but yeah, since the beginning until now there are a lot of kids playing this. Just read that you called my parents bad parents. You‘re just a random in the internet, but I can assure you that I couldn‘t have wished for better parents.
@kayla-Rey222 жыл бұрын
@@Dudeli So your parents were quite happy for you to listen to the foul and explicit language from the npc's? And hookers and a strip club are acceptable for a 14 year old? As a girl I have been subjected to sexually explicit remarks on text many many times (thank goodness I don't use a mic) and the majority of these were from teenagers. I'm sorry, but this is a + 18 game (17 in some countries) and 14 year olds should not be playing it. And the argument that some teenagers are mature enough to play GTA is ridiculous. Today's teenagers are anything but mature as witnessed by their verbal antics in this game. I am not calling your parents bad but did they really know what GTA was all about? There are kids as young as 7 playing GTA and allowed to by their parents. And their language is atrocious as well. There was a girl on here (KZbin) complaining that a guy was trying to come on to her in the game via text. She actually complained that it was wrong because she was a minor. And there is the other moral issue. In a game like GTA it is right to assume that everyone is at least 17/18 years old but she was happy enough to play an adult game and then pull the 'minor' card. I have been hit on probably in the region of 100 times in my 3 years in GTA Online almost all of them by teenagers. I've been asked for my phone number, my insta, etc etc. I shouldn't have to put up with teenagers coming onto me in an adult game. It's not acceptable in any way.
@Dudeli2 жыл бұрын
@@kayla-Rey22 Well, harassment of females is a whole other topic. And I‘m not saying that every minor should or could play a pegi 18 game. I‘m also not saying that it‘s right. But I did, it didn‘t harm me in anyway and I had a lot of fun with my friends back in the days. It was a good time. So I don‘t know what you want to hear from me or why you want to start a discussion. Look for someone else to do so.

I started playing GTA online since it first came out nearly 10 years ago now. The game holds some special memories for me as I've literally done everything you possibly can on it. From trying to get into the military base in 2013, to grinding out the doomsday heists in 2017, to 2023 where I unfortunately have quit playing. I know it's cliché, but things were genuinely much easier back in the day, yes it was harder to make money since there were no such things as heists, adversary modes or nightclubs. But there were also no flying motorcycles and futuristic vehicles. I can't even begin to relish about the countless hours of fun I have had with friends and strangers I met. Free roaming, slasher, races, heists, mc missions, adversary modes, hell even golf and tennis we've done it all. I haven't played GTA online in months, and I personally don't think I will play it again some time soon, but the game will always have a special place in my heart.

Gotta comment here - one criticism/correction and one kudos: 1.) The criticism/correction: "Paintings" are *NOT* the most valuable secondary target in Cayo Perico - Gold is. Paintings are actually on par with Cash for value. So the secondary targets values from best to least are: Gold, Cocaine, Weed, Paintings/Cash(roughly equal). 2.) The kudos: You expressed a HELL of a good idea with the PVE Arena Wars thing. If they had NPC-controlled vehicles that you could play against in Arena Wars (removing the necessity of finding people to play the matches with) I bet a TON more people would start playing! That is the best idea I've ever heard related to that particular DLC. Well done! Too bad RockStar never listens to anybody about anything. Overall, great documentary - thanks for taking the time to create this and all the other great content you have provided over the years. I hope you continue to do so for many years to come!

Starting from making my character on the first day of 2016 and being dumped in the world with just a pistol on a snowy day with shorts on, to finally getting the cocaine business thanks to a random ass discount that happened, to helping out the 4 DJs at the club and witnessing the horrors of the MK2, to robbing Rubio with my friend a lot and having a lot of fails. Online was fun, very neat nostalgic trip watching this video. 👍

I would like to start a grassroots movement to petition Rockstar to take homing weapons out of the next GTA installment. Maybe give each machine that has them with the exception of jets, but other vehicles they have homing missiles maybe get only three to five any in game day. Jets should have them, but then you could make things like the Cher N0B 0G with excellent armor period to balance the game. Maybe instead of everything having homing missiles and having a broken game like we have today, make a fast action plasma weapons that you have to aim. It would be a much more exciting and fun game. I have not had any luck getting anyone with a platform to help me with this movement, so I have not gotten it off the ground. Loved your video man I'm on PS5 and I've got no friends to play with because there's no text chat. I'm disabled as of last year so it's really hard on PS5 with no friends
