Trevor came to Michael’s house at the start to discuss freeing Brad from prison In the mission just before this, Trevor mentions he’s planning a heist to free Brad from prison, prompting Lester to tell him to talk it over with Michael When Michael admits he wants to part ways after the Big One, Trevor realises Michael has no intention of saving Brad, and immediately becomes enraged with Michael. He was already gaining suspicions in the last mission about the authenticity of Brad’s situation, but seeing Michael not even consider breaking Brad out of prison makes him realise the Brad story is full of shit

For Brad, he won’t have to deal with Micheal and would only have to tolerate Lester, and for Micheal, him and Lester won’t have to deal with Brad anymore.

Not sure if it was intentional but I love the body language at 11:10 Trevor is outstretched and leaning forward. He's getting ready to fire and is exposing his body, showing he has nothing to hide whereas Michael is keeping his gun close to his chest, keeping himself more enclosed and hidden, much like he hid himself for 10 years. It also shows that Trevor was much more prepared to take the shot (which he does as Budget PC Benchmark pointed out) than Michael as his stance is much more confrontational and less timid than Michael's

So Michael Faked his death and Trevor ended up running because there was to many polices coming towards him. Their plan didn’t go quite as planned. and also in the mission, Dead Man Walking, Michael said to Franklin “Wrong Guy Got Killed”. I do think everything Michael said in this cutscene is a bunch of lies. - First, Michael lies on him being shot and luckily making it ou alive, unlike Brad. Actually if the gamer looks carefully, Michael doesn't bleed when he gets shot in the prologue mission. This makes me believe that he was wearing a bulletproof vest, because he planned being fakely shot by Dave. Secondly, Michael still wants Trevor dead but hasn't the guts to kill him himself. The only moment he does is when Franklin chose option A for the last mission of the history. He saw that as an occasion, like "okay now we're two against Trevor, it's now or never". That makes me believe that the "I missed you" is a lie as well, he's just playing with Trevor's feelings.

Absolutely love this scene. 11:03 You can tell from Trevor's eyes that despite all the pain and betrayal he's feeling that Michael is still his friend, and he would never kill him. The moment where they both stare at eachother with their pistols trying to convince the other to shoot is one of my favourite moments from a videogame ever. It shows how truly special their bond is. Beautifully written scene.

No. If a corpse was disposed in soil it'd only take about 10 years to decompose completely to a skeleton. But in a coffin it takes significantly longer. If it was just left above ground, flies can lay their eggs on the corpse and maggots would break it down much faster. The state you saw Brad in was a state of mummification; the result of natural decomposition without external help from insects - because he was stored in a coffin.

Al0neStillAlive Embalming is also a factor, but the sole reason you'd embalm a body in the first place is to halt decomposition long enough for people to see it one last time before it's buried - usually at an open-casket Wake. I never got why they buried Brad or why they kept stringing him along with the letters. I would've done exactly what Michael said to trevor, buried a couple of sandbags. Then I would've made an official looking letter from the prison that describes how Brad had been shivved and died in prison. The letter would detail how Trevor had been put down as next of kin and that he would receive his ashes.

There’s an overlooked detail that makes this scene more impactful. When Trevor finds out where Michael lives and hears his “Witnesses Protection” excuse, he’s unsure on which of the 2 events are true. 1 being what actually happened and Micheal betrayed him and Brad. 2 being that everything did just go the way it wasn’t supposed to go and Micheal actually took a deal so he could live free. It wasn’t until he remembered here in this cutscene that there was a funeral for him, but he’s not dead, so someone else was buried in his place.

To me, this is the best part of the story in the game (and personally why I like GTA 5's story more than 4's). The sequence with all the flashbacks during the drive to the cemetery makes for incredible storytelling. The instruction to "Go to your grave" is wonderfully surreal. And the tension between Michael and Trevor at this point is intense without being cheesy or stupid thanks to the powerful voice acting by Ned Luke and Steven Ogg. It all makes for an extremely compelling plot -- only Rockstar can write narratives like this and they absolutely killed it here.

In the first mission of the game (Prolouge) Michael and the sniper (Dave Norton) was going to assassinate Trevor, but right before the sniper pulled the trigger, Brad went in front of Trevor to find the chopper, then he got accidentally shot. When Michael faked his own death he got shot with air, you can notice he didn't bleed out, but Brad did, and eventually died of blood loss. Until 9 years later the assassination was never told to Trevor, until this mission (Bury The Hatchet). He finds out the truth that Brad was killed. But I think he ever knew the assassination until the Option A ending when the FIB wanted Trevor dead. If you didn't know, Dave Norton (the sniper) worked for FIB, and together with Michael planned to kill Trevor. The reason is somewhere in the storyline. But cut short, Brad was accidentally killed.

The plot behind the old crew is really interesting. Although most of what happened in North Yankton is twisted and warped in the main story some of what Michael's intentions were shown in conversations he had with Franklin and Dave. In a conversation with Franklin Michael says "wrong guy got killed". This shows that Michael had plotted with a young Dave Norton behind Trevor, Lester, and Brad's back. So even before Trevor came back into Michael's life he still wanted him dead. Therefore it was Trevor who was meant to get shot in the opening of the game. Not Brad. Michael saw Trevor as a liability since Yankton so it's not surprising that he had such a on and off friendship with him. Trevor always wanted to consider Michael a friend but due to the way he acted Michael ridiculed him and thus is why the main story plays out the way it does between the two.

Oh man... that's deep. I didn't think of it that way myself because Michael's kids seem to have had a good relationship with Trevor (Uncle T) before what went down at North Yankton. Michael didn't seem like the type of guy to plan something like that. But I guess you can't tell what people are capable of when they have to do what they have to in order to survive in a harsh economy, especially men with families. Good analysis. :)

George Poik João Azevedo I know it’s a year old but remember in the beginning when you get passed the train and they’re talking about sticking to the plan? They were all walking and brad moved in front of trevor just before the first sniper shot. Trevor gets into cover and Michael starts to look around acting like he’s looking for the sniper but he’s not he’s acting like he is so he can get hit and “killed” the idea was most likely to kill Trevor and arrest the other members of the crew. Trevor was the most unstable out of all of them, he had a bond with Michael he liked Michael the most. That’s why when you shoot at the cops he’s like “I’m still standing here” “finish me” because he just lost his whole crew and best friend with his only destiny being prison. It sends him into a rage and with nothing to lose he tries to go out guns blazing and he kills the immediate responders, when he sees he’s killed enough to run, he does and takes a civilian hostage and makes an escape. The reason why Trevor is super pissed is because Michael is the closest thing to family Trevor has. They knew he would be upset and would go to his funeral or at least watch it from a afar or know it was happening while mourning somewhere else so they staged it to the letter with brads body to make it look as authentic as possible because the whole point of the set up in the first place was to arrest Michaels crew and make it look like he died and put him in something like wit-pro. Trevor needed to think he was dead so he wouldn’t come looking for him. It was just a set up gone bad. The variable of brad walking in front of Trevor starts the events of GTA 5. All because the “wrong guy” died.

I think by this point, Michael's been lying for so long, he doesn't know how not to. He needed Trevor to force him to face the truth, and Trevor needed Michael's hopeful vision of a future to go on living (I believe Trevor considered himself a dead man walking, wasting time in the desert with a memorial on his arm, little to no hopes or goals beyond going down in a blaze of glory - right up until he finds out Michael is still alive and he springs back into action/planning) They are both so messed up, but in a weird way they are good for each other.
