There are just so much rollings in the rear wheels and fishtail effects, and also too low tractions. GTA V is just fine for me. It feels very casual and fun to drive. GTA IV driving feels more realistic than as casual and entertaining as GTA V.

Every car in GTA V feels like it has hardcore race suspension stock. GTA IV actually feels like a normal-ish car. I say normal ish because the cars on gta iv feel like they dont even have anti-roll/sway bars.

Not really. It’s not that, it’s that the body roll should have been slower. On some more modern cars like low weight, Subaru’s, (Sultan) BMW 3 series (sentinel) so on, they should have had less bodyroll, but most modern American cars drive like ones from the 70s anyways. They have stupid suspension.

I never did understand why people joked about 4's driving physics. When you finally know what you're doing drifting felt so good. I still can't get a good feel in 5 and it's been a while.

MisterPringle People joked about IV's driving physics because it was too slippery. On the other hand, V's physics are way too grippy. If you've driven a car before you should know that both games' driving physics aren't realistic at all. Anyway, I was really concerned about V's physics as I watched the gameplay trailer, looking at such an agile 9F (I enjoyed racing in games the most back in the day). But then I've grown with it and the physics became some of my favorite arcade racing games physics. I raced the shit out of it in 2014/15 and broke 22 world records on mostly Rockstar created races. I still enjoyed Cunning stunts in summer '16 but after that I got bored, street racing is much more fun to me (all I need in V is a new map). I still won more races than I lost though. But I never got a feel for IV's physics. It's just opinions, I understand where people are coming from if they say IV is their favorite GTA. But saying IV was better is not right. VI's is probably going to be a better game than V, even if I liked V more.

I think in GTA IV, they had the bump/rebound damping for most of the cars right (in terms of potholes and typical road bumps) but on sportier models they needed to adjust for sway bars existing and for brakes to be slightly more powerful. In GTA V the bump damping is almost non existent so each pothole and bump looks spine-shattering but the sways were more accurate with the cars leaning. There's no reason for an Escalade to hit a pothole like it's on lowered coils. I think the tire grip is almost so far from each other on the spectrum that it's tough to point out a "better" option. GTA IV could have had better grip in the corners, and V needed just a bit less grip. In terms of people saying that they felt a sense of speed in IV, I think they removed some motion blur for V to accommodate for map size and online gameplay rates. Both of the games needed to meet in the middle ideally IMO

i dont know why people say the gta IV cars are like driving a boat. In real life cars do have weight like that and cars do have wide drifts when going at fast speeds. in gta 4 cars are a little harder to drive but at least it felt like a car. In gta v its like driving a floating car that has no momentum or weight. Really unsatisfying especially when your listening to the radio. I rerember having so much fun drifting while listening to the radio in tbogt.

Ah, just another video to remember why GTA IV was better. GTA V is still tons of fun, but even with the pretty graphics, it losed a lot of details. Sadly, it was a rushed game, sacrificing both huge details from previous games, and new content that they ended up removing from the game. All of it just to add yet another Opressor. Another fun comparison is with tanks when you pass over a car. In GTA IV the car will get flat in the exact part you passed by. In GTA V it just... does nothing different to any other vehicle. Not to mention, the differences between levels of destruction for cars get even bigger the more you inflict damage to them. In GTA IV you can get a real mess, leaving whole parts useless or flat. In GTA V, the newer the car, the less damage can get on its model. Just give a try to the latest GTA Online cars. Damage is almost non-existent.

There needs to be a mix between the two for the next GTA. IV was just over-the-top in terms of the suspension dipping, whereas V basically turned cars into go-karts. At the very least add an option in the pause menu "Vehicle Handling - Arcade/Simulation" then balance the two with acceleration/top speed rewards and nerfs.

Sometimes in gta 4 it was fun just to drive around the city because it is actually hard to control your car while driving fast, especially on wet streets. I am not talking about graphics or story line, gta 4 was just better in that aspect. In gta 5 you can go up to 100 mph, hit the brakes and your car will be stopped in seconds, even if it is just an ordinary car.

I do enjoy V but it feels like it was slingshot a bit too far into Saints Row 'fun' territory. Just off the top of my head, GTA IV: Better story. Cops aren't total dicks. Superior fighting system. More places to enter / revisit. Cars more fun to drive + ragdoll. Not one but *TWO* single-player DLCs. V is all about online... Much smaller map but without huge empty spaces. It actually seems bigger. That being said, I love every GTA from III to V, but I enjoyed IV more than V (still a great game though).

Waaaaaaaay bigger map, but empty as fuck. 2/3 of it is nothing. Completely dead. IV's story was much better and not disjointed / split between 3 main protagonists where neither one was completely "fleshed out." III, Vice City, San Andreas, IV, TLaD, TBoGT, you had one main protagonist to focus on. V, you have to split your attention between three half-baked ideas and each one seems like an afterthought. "Little customization" means fuckall if you game on PC and use mods like I do. The color was far from terrible - it was exactly as it should be: grey and dingy like the city it satirized (NYC). "Stupid driving" actually required skill - V is as easy as any Saints Row game. The little kids loved that. I'll agree the shooting could've been better, but we're talking about a game which came out a decade ago. Again, I liked V, but IV was objectively better...

This video and these comments are blindingly bias. No driving physics were actually tested in this video. This video proved one thing; rock stars front struts/shocks on a decent car were still shitty in 2008. The beaters that you found rusted and old that bounced every way when you drove were assumed this way because the suspension system was too work at the time however the regular cars (or sultan shown in the video) drove just as bad in gta 4. Swerving through cones show this as well. Considering the sultan is based off a Subaru/Mitsubishi mix up I think the less body roll the better since the handling and suspension are what the cars are best known for. Braking wise suspension also makes a difference. I've never actually tested it but do grass in all areas of both gtas maps feel any different? If so you'd have to test the equivalent of each games making sure the grounds completely dry because rockstar could've taken account of California and N.Y. being on other sides of the continent. In reality video games are to broad to compare especially when gta 5 didn't seem to be influenced by any of IV's in any way. Ps I only went this deep because Vucko did but was flawed.

I like GTA IV's physics because the driving is challenging and fun. *I'm not saying that it is realistic* (in case another argument starts), but you can feel the weight of the car a lot more, maybe even too much. GTA V has by far a much more arcady driving (again, not saying that GTA IV's driving is realistic), as seen in the slalom test, while GTA IV's cars have a softer and bouncier suspension. IV's cars are also heavier and slower. Driving is fun in both games, but I like IV's physics a lot more, since it's more fun to just drive around and crash into stuff to see what happens. If you disagree with me, please feel free to comment your opinion, but let's not turn this into an argument about what game is better, both are great games, and in the end it just comes down to personal preference.

Uhhh the driving physics weren't that great, every car body rolling like a bus wasn't real in the slightest. Especially not the high performance cars. Are people blind or? Like please tell me where in reality a WRX or a Ferrari 360 rolled when taking corners, like a big old Cadilac would? The suspension was more soft thus could do more realistic things but the rest of it was NOT realistic. GTA 5's stiffer set up is more realistic in some ways but both are NOT. A mix of the two would be.
