It's actually possible to catch the true culprit before he makes it to his hostage. Pointing the gun at him during the chase (After crossing the first street and turning right after him), filling the circle can end the chase early and avoid having to do the hostage rescue.

My play through was slightly different. I didn't find the knife until AFTER the morgue visit. Went to the Cafe to look for the knife, found it, chased the dude on the roof, killed him. I think it's slightly better because the wife lived to get put away for what she did

I didn't like the ending to this case. There should've been a lateral/intuitive way to nab both of them. Also, the guy playing really kinda screwed up at the end with getting Sabo shot in the hostage situation instead of arresting him with a warning shot, you shouldn't get "valorous" in this mission for doing that in my opinion. Still, nice to see a classic being played ...

There is an alternative way to do it. If you don't find the knife in the trash can the first time you visit the bar, then you can come back to the bar later and find Sabo there. If you are quick, you can arrest him with no casualties.
