I think that leak stop product is the same stuff as a toilet wax ring from Lowe’s or Home Depot.

You might be right. We didn't think the toilet wax was spreadable enough though. This was very thick and pasty.

I would renew all the hull penetration fittings, connecting hoses and clamps on a boat bought secondhand, as the assurance of that task completed would more than make up for the work and expense. Original fittings may be refurbished and retained as spares at the owners choice. I would also fit sump pumps, two independently powered pumps at specific locations, with good filters. One frequently hears of boats sunk at moorings due to faulty hull penetration fittings and faulty bilge pumps, or bilge pumps which haven't got a reliable power supply. What would be an inexpensive remedy becomes a total loss of the hull.

Thank you for the suggestions. During a haul out when I bottom painted, I checked all the thru hulls. This adventure was the prop shaft having gotten bent from line wrapped around the propeller and subsequently tearing up the fiberglass shaft into the boat. Costly, but we got it fixed.

Your own line causing this leak/shaft bent. man that's tough. Keep underwater epoxy on the boat. Would have stopped this leak for a while. Fishing boats carry this stuff pink in color.

Underwater epoxy is a great idea. However, the Chesapeake isn’t know for its clear waters, and not sure dennis would have wanted to take the plunge. 😃
