We take the GT to Scotts Rods in Yamanto for a before and after cams test. After a quick road tune (Still being refined*), we were ready for some power pulls. Now to the track to get a timeslip and see if the dyno figures transfer over to the real world. I feel like that 11sec quarter mile is closer than ever!
I really enjoyed making this video, big thanks to Scott and the team from Scott's Rods, go check him out on Facebook, he does custom Exhausts and Tuning!
Like and Subscribe, thanks for watching!! 😁

Richard Holdener did an engine dyno test of 5.4 with the aussie Boss intake, he had an idea that a dual inlet (left and right) inlet would help unshroud intake runners. You’ve done a great job with this 5.4 beast.

Thanks mate, I agree. I believe the plenum spacer helps bandaid the factory plenum distribution but adding more volume and space for air to reach the drivers side runners unrestricted. I'm going to be testing a few designs with mine 🙂

@@GapSauceKZbin Maybe something is wrong with the dyno? Since if the dyno is saying 250rwkw and it's keeping up with 300+rwkw cars it does suggest the dyno isn't working right. What about wheel slip on the dyno? that will affect it as well in a big way.
@GapSauceYoutube

@@NoOne56488 Wheel slip and wheel weight will affect the reading, some dyno's have the roller speed calibrated higher/lower than others. It's not really my place to speculate whether something is wrong with it or not. The fact that it's making 103whp more than the last full bolt ons GT they had there should give you an indication of where its at 🙂 that and the timeslip 😁

This is interesting. I have an 03 GTP 4 speed Manta 1⅞" primaries 4into1's 3" outlet. Custom twin 3" straight piped with "X" pipe. Mace plenum spacer BPT power pipe. Untuned at a dyno day it produced 273kw. Waiting to have it tuned as is. I'm looking into the dalta twin throttle body setup and custom grind cams. Join that up with MMR's timing chain revision and maybe some cheeky flat tops, ramp that comp ratio up. Maybe see the 450hp 🤞🤞🤞

@@GapSauceKZbin hey not sure what size wheel would fit over the rear brakes on one of those cars but a 15x10 wheel with a Mickey Thompson ET Drag 26x10x15S. S for stiff side wall since it’s a heavy stick car, if you can tighten the rear shocks to keep it from bouncing after it loads the tires (that may be more of a solid axle thing, IRS cars like to squat a bunch) I’m sure it could pull 60s at least in the 1.6s if not 1.5s
@GapSauceYoutube
@GapSauceYoutube 3 жыл бұрын
@@ekracing2138 Yeah I'll need to go down a size on the brakes to fit the 15s on the rear but perhaps a pro radial if not the ET drag? I have adjustable shocks but I need taller springs as on launch the tyres contacts the guard and kills my travel. The bounce is what got me wheel hop and killed my diff but the new shocks seem to have sorted that. Thanks mate, a 1.6 would see me getting near mid 11's I think. Shame race weight is 4100+ 😅 I need to launch like yours!
@ekracing2138
@ekracing2138 3 жыл бұрын
@@GapSauceKZbin I personally have not had good luck with radials on stick shift cars. The radials will prob give a little mph on the top end with the more stable/stiff sidewall but they will not tolerate the hit at the starting line that a bias ply slick will. Not to say you can’t run fast on a radial with a stick car but the launch technique is much more of a clutch slip than a high rpm dump if you will. My car has gone a best of 1.44 60ft, I believe it has more in it. Suspension is no where near perfect. But it’s also a pretty light car (relatively speaking) and 4.30 rear gears. Good luck with it!! You should get in the 11s with it pretty easy I’d think, especially with some work at the starting line.

YES! 👍 Edit: most people even back when I was doing my old car back in 2004 - 2005 worried way too much about dyno read outs and peak power and not enough about the other 3 million things that influence a cars ability to go fast. Average torque, tyres, ratios etc etc all didn't matter really just being able to say "I have X amount of rwkw" was the important thing too them. My VX SS with VCM No.7 only made 290rwkw but it smoked a mates VZ Maloo with 320rwkw because the rest of his car was factory mine wasn't.

Yes, it made 311rwkw. I think there are some lofty dynos around. I'm trapping 8mph more than another 340rwkw 5.4 with 4.11s that a mate of mine owns. Hopefully new engine should make 30-40rwkw more.
@DrinkinDaJuice
@DrinkinDaJuice 3 жыл бұрын
My BF GT is making 434rwkw but that's because I have 13psi of supercharged boost and water/meth kit on it, plus internal upgrades and the usual exhaust and other ancillary bits. It's interesting to see what these Boss V8s can do, as they were never around for long enough to get much development going, but they seem to have a lot of untapped potential in them that people are only now starting to figure out. We found that a more standard cam profile was better for boost as it maintains the lower end and midrange torque before boost starts to come in at 2800rpm and then it doesn't need a lot of cam, as it's on boost and timing to make the power by 6300rpm. My big downfall was intake air temps becoming brutally hot after about 4 pulls. I'm still early days on sorting out the water/meth system in hopes it helps somewhat.
@GapSauceYoutube

A mates thinking of selling his cammed ba xr8 auto (348rwhp on a dynamics) he was thinking of a fresh sheet to show it's still healthy. I recommended taking it back to where it was and having the tune touched up after the 3.9 diff install. Really solid gains there mate. Dyno figures are funny things really, all you can do is compare back to back figures of your own Car and look at the gains and losses like you have. I've seen some huge numbers on dyno's from Cars that don't deliver on the road and also the exact opposite result. I remember at a Tickford club dyno day I was at, back when the BA's were first released, a bog stock BA XR8 auto ran 211rwkw, the same Car in a manual running 216rwkw, a TS50 5.6 Manual making 203rwkw, a stock auto BA XR6T making 185rwkw and just for a comparison, the dyno operators mate's LS1 manual VT Ute with extractors/cats/exhaust and tune making 190rwkw.. These were on a dyno dynamics dyno, same day, same conditions. 2 years later a BA GTP Manual made 269rwkw on the same dyno with headers/cats/exhaust/airbox mods and tune. Obviously a way less stingy dyno than the one you're using and without the humidity you were facing here. I reckon the ol' bird will fair rip with what it's making now at your track days, it's such a great/flat power curve that hangs on to 7500rpm. I'm impressed, now go show some dyno queens who's Boss! 😂👍

Had a mate a while ago chuck his ba xr8 manual (exhaust, Intake etc) on my dyno for a few power runs and made around 360rwhp, then about 3 months later he got the timing chains done as there were a few teeth missing on the gears, ended up only making around 260 rwhp after the chains were done. Later on i did a tune and it made about 350rwhp. Very strange maybe it must have liked the sloppy worn out chains and gears ?

In my opinion, may I suggest trying a "road launch" for the drag strip. Hold 2500 and slip the clutch. Once clutch is out quickly roll into the gas. This gives a gentle weight transfer and as the torque is low in this area, the tyres have greater chance of grip. It should also be kinder on the driveline, too. I race a FWD Levin, no where near the power or class, but being FWD the struggle for traction is real. I predict the 60 foot time to be a little lower, maybe 1.8sec, but top end power is all in the MPH at the finish. Expect to nudge 118 in the traps @ 11.9sec.

What a total load of bullshit you can't make power with a boss. Who are these stupid people? If you had an 5.4l LS making over 500hp it would be a monster. I must admit I was expecting 330kw at the wheels. Is this diff ratios? What doesn't make sense is with stock cams you in some ways embarrassed numerous other cars. Given it's making more juice now I can only think those numbers are somehow not showing a calibrated result. It would be interesting to see that running on an engine dyno. 20 bucks says it will show a much bigger number. I don't for a minute believe it's making less than 300kw

The amount of times I've heard that boss engines don't make power from cam now..
