During my lessons, there was a lot of emphasis on pedestrian crossing and how you can tell someone wants to cross the street. Because, obviously, you have to stop for those pedestrians. But having my driving license, I now see plenty of people not looking at possible crossing pedestrians. My dad even once said "I'll stop when they have one foot on the crosswalk", which is far to late to react to the pedestrian! In hindsight, perhaps previous generations have been taught different. Thankfully, most crossing pedestrians make sure that cars slow down before they start crossing.

21:15 so i took a driver's ed class in my high school, no actual driving but learning the rules, that class made me understand that i DO NOT have the capacity to be a safe driver. As a human with mental disorders forced into a life of neurotypical lifestyles, my time thinking about what the right and moral decisions would potentially hurt or k1ll someone. Iv accepted that as a reality. That if i drive i risk hurting someone because i cannot focus on a task or do it properly, so i always strive to find alternatives and find help. Listen yall, not everyone needs to learn to drive, its okay if you dont, you do make your life a little more complicated but if it between me getting distracted by a squirrel and hitting a pedestrian and having to rely on people who are competent at driving to make time for me, imma choose waiting. I feel like too many people dont know how to drive, drive and hurt other people. its sad. a lot of accidents can be avoided by, not taking meds that make you drowsy, not driving intoxicated, and not driving if you dont feel like you can safely. Remember, its okay to not be able to do something. As long as you try. ( i did try actual driving and it wasnt for me.) Just be prepared to have to compensate for that by seeking alternative options
@claudiaamengualmateo69895 ай бұрын
Wow this really hits home because I have been putting off learning how to drive for years because I was in a city that had really good public transportation but recently I had to move back with my parents and here you pretty much need to drive for everything and I miss my freedom but when I started to think about it I was really scared because having ADHD I feel like I could potentially mess up so much and that could be fatal and people don't really understand because they say that after a while you don't even have to think about it, but I do. I'm actually incapable of doing any task without thinking about each step. So seeing your comment really made me feel seen and understood so thank you ❤
@ABitofEpicness5 ай бұрын
@darkdest6664 its concerning how this is an EXACT parallel to how I feel, I wish there was a way to nullify my care for others in this regard because I feel like I care TOO MUCH about people (pedestrians, other drivers) to put them through my driving and potentially endanger them. Realistically nothing would ever happen, but the chance that making a simple mistake can cost lives sends a shiver down my spine that I dont find worth accepting just to have the ability to drive
@ZaphiraX5 ай бұрын
When I started learning driving, I was really nervous. It's a big machine that can cause a lot of damage, even to other cars. The first lesson I immediatly had to get on the highway, which I thought was incredibly dangerous. Eventually I got over that. And now I have my driving license for more than 5 years. When I get into my car now I have no fear, because I have build up the confidence that I know what to do in all situations. That being said, I also have friends who do not have a driving license because of their disabillties. While I feel sad that they don't have the "freedom" that I have, I've never judged them for it. They don't miss it, and I have no problem driving them around if they need it
@RaeHadzega5 ай бұрын
Everyone who gets behind the wheel of a vehicle is risking their very life and limb, as well as that of everyone in their path. That is true for literally everyone, even the most 'neurotypical' human on the planet. Accepting that responsibility is a core part of the process of learning to drive. If that's not for you, then that's fine -- but don't think that 'normal' people don't face that same risk every time they drive. There is NO amount of ability or experience that will eliminate it.
@failurenotsorry66003 ай бұрын
@@RaeHadzega Of course they have that risk, but they also don't have a brain that increases their likelihood of getting themselves killed because something caught their eye. Some people literally cannot focus on the road like most people can, some people just can't have that reaction time or that learned skill. Don't sit here and say that everyone is at risk when someone describes their experience of being a particular risk. I personally know I could not drive for a multitude of reasons, it just ain't for me with the hand i've been dealt, and I am also able to recognize that most neurotypical people don't have the same risk I do.

As someone who got my driver's license in 2019 in Medina Ohio I can in fact confirm the driving portion of learning is still the same. The only time someone else was in the car was when we were picking up the next student or bringing the last student home. Though I was somewhat lucky that I kinda knew who my instructor was. I didn't really remember him but he owned a farm my family worked with a lot in the past. I remember being terrified that I wouldn't know my instructor.

I'm kinda curious . . . Do you not have driving schools in America? I live in the Netherlands, and here we have driving schools. And you need special permits to be allowed to give lessons in the first place. I didn't know my driving teacher, but I never feared for my life even though we were alone in a car for 1,5 hours (around 30 to 40 times). And here we also have the system of one student picking up the next student, and the next student dropping the first one off at home (or any other desired destination).

My driving lesson experience didn't have partners, but we didn't drive to the middle of nowhere cause I grew up next to the capital city of my state, so we had to drive downtown in the capital city (which basically only consists of one way streets but sometimes has a 2-way randomly so you have to be very very careful about where you turn) and on the freeway, which was absolutely terrifying Edit: just remembered, since I live in a state with snow, part of our driving lessons is driving during the winter, and my instructor took me to an empty parking lot to do donuts with the car to teach me how it feels to have the car go out of control and slide around so that I could get used to getting back in control

I love it that where other youtubers rage and yell and throw stuff, MatPat seemt to implode, retreating deeper and deeper into himself and eventually into the couch. Can definitely relate to that.

I want a version of this game with a cat climbing instead of some random guy in a loincloth. The climbing and sliding reminds me of a cat holding on for dear life by its claws. Also, you are doing awesome, Mark had a lot of trouble at the start, and you are practically breezing through this like a boss! ...nevermind.

It was so funny to hear Ash doing the outro while Matt is just dying and seeing him climb up onto of the couch with his feet blurred nearly killed me.

I had an extremely similar experience with my driving ed where we went to the guys house where he then went if for like 20 mins leaving me in the car, and as a girl, I always have that radar up and I hated going in these trips. I can’t believe yall had partners

This game reminds me a lot of getting over it but with two hands instead of a hammer. I hope you’re enjoying your retirement Matpat! Glad I can still see you here on GTLive

i would absoloutley love to watch matpat play some of "chants of sennaar". Its a chill puzzle game about learning new languages based off of written letters and context clues. its super cool and i think someone like matpat would be good ad deducing the meaning of words from their use and context/ how they actually follow common practices in languages today (like languages have suffixes or prefixes that change the meaning of a word in a certain way.)

As if getting over it wasn't tough enough, now a new challenger has approached. Retirement really wanted to get things going once again, it was rather too peaceful for Matpat to enjoy. * Kekw * The ending segment though..... Keep It Up Mate 🐺 🐾

Casual watching Matt slowly lose his sanity to the point where he considered not being able to climb over his couch sad a starter to mope the next second

It's the blurred feet for me😂 Or rather its Matpat caring so little at that point due to the sheer inner rage and sorrow that they had to blur his feet.

I can imagine several difficulties to this game. One would be where rocks and bushes and things can crumble away, especially if you stay there for a long time, so the path might be slightly different if you fall and have to make it back up again. Another would be where you have a stamina bar, although that would suggest you need rest-points of some sort to 'recover' your stamina. One more would be where you have to make it to certain checkpoints within a certain time-limit. The final difficulty would be all these, but 3D a-la 'Fez'.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that got the masculine vibe from pepper shakers The name pepper is different from pepper shakers in my mind I did confuse the genders of Mr. Salt and Mrs. Pepper all the time as a kid

Been a month since your final theory, but just wanted to make a comment and say I dedicated my high school final essay to you, Matpat. I got to nerd out about ARGs and their LOREEE in a 5 paragraph, 9 page essay. I wanted to show how much you and what you’ve taught me matters, and I think it turned out perfect. I wrote (a lot), I cited (A LOT), (I even got to use a game theory as a source!), but most importantly, I learned. I learned more than I could have ever imagined. And I think that’s what you would want from me. But hey, that’s just a theory! (however, as an avid GT-not-live fan for years, I’m still watching you a bunch on here :))

0:38 "The latest Bennett Foddy-esque game" Omg, Ash, this is not a post-retirement game 🤦 You gotta either give him games that test his attention to detail (That's Not My Neighbor was a good pick), or just intellectually stimulating stuff (Chants of Sennaar would be a good option). 9:27 "I love rock climbing" I wouldn't have guessed, that's a heck of a workout (BuffPat incoming) 💪 34:12 "I don't like the word 'bliss' " We can add that to list of things MatPat has opinions about 📝 52:14, 54:36 Yeah, you're talking about the vestibular (the balance center) and the proprioceptive (sense of self-movement, force, and body position) systems. Funny you mentioned "squeeze", because I found a squeeze/hug machine that was specifically made for proprioceptive stimulation. 58:16 Wait, you're censoring feet now? I thought the success of Amy's short on Barbie's feet had changed that policy 🤔
