Went to my local fleet feet last week after being out for a while with an injury, after trying on four different pairs of shoes the attendant told me "well you might just have to deal with it." That was certainly helpful

You should have been the salesperson when I went to purchase my shoes @ a chain running store. The person helping me...well really wasn''t much help. I am running in an old model of Asics GT 1000-10 and they feel great. But I was looking for a bit more cushion. I hesitated but bought the Nimbus 26. I ran with them once and took them back. Way too squishy and unstable. while there... again. I almost purchased the latest Brooks Ghost but then tried on the Kayano 30. I purchased these and hope that they work out for me, if not I will go back to the GT 1000-12...newer version. I gained more knowledge from this vid than I did that day at the shoe store. Thank you!

I own three pairs of shoes all different , because i'm only a slight overpronator i only need a little support . Asics kayano 24 which i hardly ever wear , Brooks Ravenna 8 , i've had three versions of these in the past and my goto shoes Adidas parley ultra boost . So from now on and it's taken a while , i now prefer neutral shoes . It's all down to preference .

Cube Mountain biker Brooks for me as well, tried kayanos and felt ok in the shop but were horrible when I ran in them. Bought two pairs of the Brooks straight up and swap between them.

I feel like I could write a thesis paper about my my running shoes. Looking at the tread wear I do have supination, however I've had the most success with neutral shoes so far. I usually rotate between Brooks Launch series and the Saucony Breakthrough. The Launch I prefer for my track/racing while the Breaktrough is my longer mileage trainer. Sometimes I purchase some Salomon trail runners because a large portion of where I live is dirt and trails.

I've been running in Asics Cumulus for over 20 years--it was just that instant feeling of comfort when I slipped on that first pair--and I never looked for alternatives. As the saying goes, "Never change a running system" ;)

sounds like you're me ;-) Gel-Cumulus forever! never had any problems I've heard that it may be good to have a variety of shoes (within the same/"your" category) from different brands to stimulate your foot so it doesn't get too much used in a single style but yeah ..all those experiments with different maybe-damaging shoes for some more money? I never spent it up to now ... Furthermore the list of people telling "I've tried lighter, newer, fancier, got injured then and switched back to the Gel-Cumulus" is long :-)

Mizuno Wave Rider 21 is awesome. I can use this pair of shoes to finish a sub 2 half-marathon without injury even with very little training.

Great video, but very focused on finding that one right pair, this is very wrong in my mind. Running shoes are so good nowadays that you should try finding at least two pairs that are dissimilar to each other. That way you change the load between runs and build up strength. Our store see significantly fewer injuries with those that have a diverse running shoe selection at home. And the arch isn't the only thing that determines what type of shoe your choosing, that's oversimplifying it. There are many people with flat arches who run better in neutral shoes.

Can't help but feel to some extent support shoes are a crutch. I switched to a neutral shoe eventhough I have some overpronation. Used to be injury prone but have had no issues since the switch. Also doing weekly leg exercises barefoot at home seems to help.

Support shoes are a crutch, but sometimes it's necessary in order for people to be able to run as much as they want. I have a huge arch movement but am a neutral runner. I still have more comfort in a stability shoe, as it has far less impact on my knees and ankles. Every single body is unique, and for some people, it takes way too much work to be able to run in neutral shoes. So much work that it wouldn't be worth it. That's why people still need help finding the right running shoes.

Rules for shoes 1. Always have 2 pair of shoes, preferably from different brands. 2. Never wear the same running shoes on consecutive days. The cushioning needs at least 24 hrs to rebound from a session. 3. Check them for wear and bending often. Replace when needed, or every 500 miles. 4. Running shoes are for running, not for walking around the house. For walking around the house, use retired running shoes. I alternate between Brooks, Saucony, and Asics.

@@niki0k582 the concept is that different brands/styles will have a slightly different strike, slightly different effect on your ankles/knee/hip, and cycling these different shoes will help avoid overuse injuries. I don't know if I agree with that reasoning personally, but that's the reasoning.

I have ran in asics, On, Hoka and Nike and didn't get on with any of them I use Adidas Boston and Adios and will never change back 👌🏻

Normally when you can only find one pair of shoes, this correlates to you not having enough strength to handle different loads. With only one running shoe you'll have major problems if Adidas changes one part of their shoe. Using several can have a huge impact on reducing running related injuries. I run in 6 different brands and I can't feel the difference anymore, apart from the fit. Two years ago I could only run in Mizuno Paradox, now I run mile after mile and I'm just not injured. Hoka, Nike, On, Asics and Adidas are all hype machines that are great at marketing, it doesn't necessarily make them better. Try going to a running store and trying out less famous brands, like New Balance, Mizuno, Saucony, Brooks and 361 to name a few. Their shoes are just as good, maybe even better.

Awesome video. However,I have a question with regards to fit. I was recently trying on Hoka One One Bondi 6, however I could feel the sole of the shoe touching my arch. (I dont have flat feet and I dont have a particularly high arch) Is that normal? I dont feel it on most of the shoes I have worn before and I am concern that it will add stress to my arch area when I run long distances with the shoe. I havent been running for quite a while and is currently trying to get back to Triathlon. So I am not particularly up to date with the current trends for shoes. However I have watched a couple of great reviews for the Hoka. Thanks for reading and I hope I could get an advise on the fit for the shoe. Great video by the way :)

The guide ISO 2 is a mild to moderate stability shoe. Its range is impressive. If you tried combining it with for instance a Mizuno Inspire you'd get a great combination.

She mentioned heel to toe offset. Zero drop is just one type of drop, she didn't mention any other drop either. I would maybe start talking about 8-12mm first as these are found in conventional long-distance trainers.

Pronation is the movement where you ankles cushion the rest of the body. If you overpronate you might need a stable shoe, depending on your feet position, arch, knee strength, and flexibility. A stable shoe is used to reduce the load on your ankle without removing the natural cushioning of your body. Too much stability and the rest of the body gets way too much load on every impact.

Like almost everything about exercise physiology, there are certain things that are fundamental "truths" of your anatomy, but some progress can be made through training. You might not ever have "ideal" running anatomy, and since that's impossible it should never be the goal. The goal is always incremental progress. You can almost certainly progress through training unless you have already put in a significant, years-long effort into that goal.

deft08 You can certainly strengthen the muscles around your arch as well as even your gluts. Your whole body and muscle recruitment will effect your gait.

ian povey Then consider this: long term, how much might the cheap shoes affect your feet and overall health? A good rule is to have variety, not just using one kind of shoe. And hopefully one of these could be a barefoot shoe. Maybe to use when not running, to begin with. This one will strengthen your feet and help reset damage made when running in the too tight a shoe, etc etc. These things take time. Just google and see what injuries are out there, and try and find your own way ahead :-)Enjoy your feet, good luck!

Should have had pictures with what the types were. Just saying soup bowl didn't really help. Didnt feel this video really helped unfortunately. The important parts went too quick and went over how less important parts for too long. I enjoyed video. but needs more images of different foot type (overpronator) not just running video. Did have a good tip about recording runs with shoes to help know when need replacing
