This was great but as a visual learner, would really appreciate some pictures or a follow up tutorial that outlines each method and when to use.

Double through is my favorite, it undoes with a tug on both lace ends but will not come undone any other way. Plus it is super important that whatever you do you end up with a square knot. A simple bow works if you start the cross the opposite that you finish (ie if you start the tie by putting right over left you finish the bow with left over right).

“Double through”. I’m on 40 years of using it without it ever coming untied in a run or race.

I use Mark's idea from a video a while ago - tie the knot at the outer eye of the shoe (not in the middle) then tuck everything into the shoe again on the outer side. stops laces catching my ankles and pressure keeps the knot tight. with the ian knot for speed in transition. worked great for every race so far (IM70.3 etc) best tip ever thanks Mark!

I just use shoes without laces. It's strapped comfortably and in place and I love them.

I do what my wife calls my “cross country knot”, which was actually taught to me by my 7th Grade English teacher 40 years ago. (It is sort of like your “Ian’s Secure”, but easier for most of us. I also call it the knot-and-a-half. Tie your shoes just as your mom taught you, but stop just before you are about to pull the the two sides tight. Now bring the loop up and back through the hole again, then pull tight. To untie, just pull an end like normal, which is what makes it so much better than a double knot.

Knot thing is quite the art. I just do the old tried and true method. Double knot though so they do not come undone. Maybe I will get adventurous one day and try out a few of those.

I always use the first technique but with a different name I know it as "butterfly lacing" it's at time stamp 4:00 on your video. It's a very good technique. That was a very informative video, nice one.

I've been lacing for comfort and usability for years, sometimes depends on the shoe, not so much the surface, with high arches you get inventive at times

3 months ago I had so much pain in my right big toe joint ( bunion) that I couldn't run for a week. I stared lacing my shoe skipping the first eyelet on the big toe side of the shoe to reduce pressure on that joint.

Got a question. We normally lace each eyelet from the inside out, right? I just bought an Adizero RC 3 and the shoe came with the laces tied from the outside in. And i noticed that with this, it seems the tension is fixed and i can barely tighten them even more, except at the top where we do the bunny ears. What is this lacing called? And what is it for? Seems like a secure way of lacing where the tension of the laces don’t loosen as you move about.

I’ve been doing the runner’s loop with my VF ever since and yes, no heel slippage. However, on my last run wearing the cielo x1 with the ugly laces, doing the runner’s loop made the top part of my foot, where I do tying the laces, painful. Maybe a bit too tight? How do I go with preventing possible heel slippage and not making the top of the foot painful without doing the loop tightly?! Is there any other way to tie the laces to prevent heel slippage?

Great ideas. I am using the cross over style on my 1080v10s because any other style just feels too tight over the top of my mid-step. The shoes are now perfectly comfortable. I also use a combination of the regular day to day style (the one we learned as kids) and finish it off with Ian's secure lock; it's a neater and a far tighter knot than a double knot. I also find it a lot easier to untie than the double knot. Who is Ian?

I use the second eyelet at the top. Because my heel slides a lot.

I use to do that and all kinds of lacing methods. Once I went up a half a size (american sizes) it fixed everything, including blisters. I have narrow heals so shoes are always a issue for me.

You should tie shoes like a square knot and not like a granny knot, it will make all the difference in staying tight.
@leopoldbloom4835 Жыл бұрын
Actually yes, you missed a particularly helpful one. Double knots don’t open easily, but then they don’t either when they’re supposed to. A really easy, secure knot, that opens just like a regular one in one movement is the berluti knot. Look it up, it’s a game changer.

Is runner's loop tying 100% necessary? It seems like if you have thicker heels or wider ankles, a normal shoe tying will do the job. It just seems every time I use that system, even without cranking down, I am getting tingling and feeling of being too tight on my feet.

On long runs that I really don’t want to do, I prefer to use the “zip-tie lace” method. That way my shoes are non-removable I can’t b!¥€£ out.
