Excellent video and ingenuity in such a simple yet useful design. One thing is you can buy packages of stainless-steel skewers to use on the BBQ for a couple of dollars at the Dollar store or Walmart which should work well . Also you can get brass tubing in different sizes at hobby and craft stores for a few dollars as well that could take the place of the telescoping magnet tubes. Neat thing about this idea is that it can be made to accommodate burners of different types easily. I am going to make two of these , one using the measurements of yours and another a little shorter to work well with an Altoids tin stove. Even though this video is old it is still useful today to many people! Thanks for the idea and excellent video!

I have been watching all these videos on how to make one of these pot stands. And I still wasn't sure on what to do exactly. And then I came across this video. And I love it. I love how you showed the roll of steel. And that mirror thing to get the tubing from. Thank you so much for making this video.

Great video, nice narration voice. Three legs won't wobble on uneven surface. That's why, first milking stools then camera & transit tripods are made that way, for their steadiness. I wonder if the straight leg would be ok to make slightly shorter?

Did u measure from top edge of trangia to say bottom of pot on stand to ensure u got the height right
@AK4PJ3 жыл бұрын
Yes and no.. I tried the 1 inch from top of Trangia to bottom of pot but took forever.. It's right at 1 1/8 to the bottom I believe.. Id have check that again to be sure. But you just got to play with it a bit for fuel vs speed on boil times

Excellent little stand! The only thing is DO NOT USE GALVANIZED wire or rod for the stand! When heated the galvanizing will give off poisonous fumes. Google it if you need to. Aluminum will melt so best bet is simple steels. A plain (non zinc coated) steel rod can be used. Just trying to keep everyone safe. Cheers.

What exactly is "hanging wire"? I asked one guy at Home Depot and he sent me to picture hanging wire. I asked another and he showed me the kind used for a drop ceiling but he said it wouldn't be able to take the heat. What's your wire used for? That would make it easier to find in a store. Thanks!!

@AK4PJ4 жыл бұрын

Looks like you had room in there for a small spork. Too bad you couldn't find a way to attach the wind screen to your sides. Note: boiling water is like sitting around and watching paint dry....
@AK4PJ3 жыл бұрын
Yea that would have been nice.. But I've had no trouble just using the windscreen on the ground around it. Works pretty good. And you're right about watching water boil. But I've noticed when camping as soon as you look away its boiling over.. Lol
@zolar1nonassumpsit2193 жыл бұрын
@@AK4PJ Old adage: A watched pot never boils.... About windscreens - sometimes the wind is a bit too strong for a free standing wind screen. Other times if you use something to anchor it to the ground (like a coat hangar for example), the ground can be too hard to poke into. Unless you pee on the ground first to soften it? Dunno - thinking outside the box in a way. Looking away while waiting for the pot to boil over is tantamount to looking away when kids are around - quickly things can run afoul! lol
@AK4PJ3 жыл бұрын
@@zolar1nonassumpsit219 usually in that kind of wind I don't rely on a wind screen alone.. I'll set up behind a log or rock or tree. Something to break the wind. Wind screen is basically for a breeze
@zolar1nonassumpsit2193 жыл бұрын
@@AK4PJ Umm shhh! Don't repeat this - I can use my wife to block the wind.... An idea - Heat water when it is easy to do. Get a double wall wide mouth thermos, put rice/dehydrated stew/beans/similar in it, add hot but not boiling water, close the lid. In a few hours, you can easily have hot food. Rule of thumb - any place that has windmills (for electric generation) will usually have constant/high winds. One needs to plan accordingly.
@AK4PJ3 жыл бұрын
@@zolar1nonassumpsit219 I've done that before.. I've also cold soaked some pastas on long hikes. But my favorite is sitting down and resting the dogs and making something good..
