刘教授今次的视频是最为令我振奋的一集，盖因我的祖辈（父系）就是来自广东大埔。祖父的乡音、大埔名人故事耳目能详，当然也包括大埔美食 - 算盘子、大埔麵、笋粄、晒豆腐干等等，都一一埋藏在我心坎里！谢谢刘教授的讲解，令一个从没有回到过祖籍地的大埔客，对祖籍地有更深一层的认识。

I am Hakka from Malaysia, my father came from Hawongsa, Taipu. May I know is this a township or village.

I’m from Thailand and my great grandfather came from Taipu 100 years ago. He didn’t told us where exactly in Taipu he was from, but I did a little bit of a genealogical research on the our surname with is Kong (江), based on the generation name (字輩) of my great grandfather and my grandfather. I found out that he might came from Chayong in Taipu. I’m curious how different Taipu dialect is from the other dialects? I heard that the standard Hakka in mainland is Moiyen, and Siyen in Taiwan, and maybe Fuiziu in Hong Kong?

The Taipu dialect is easily undertood by speakers of most other accents of Hakka . All the above mentioned accents have the same tone features and have only some differences in the onsets and rimes, similar to the difference of different Englishes. I speak Hong Kong Hakka and can instantly communicate with the people there.

@@hakkastudies3363 Thank you for your comment, professor! I’m start learning Hakka from your channel for about a month right now. Although I can’t speak Mandarin, but I can speak Japanese which helps a lot in memorizing 漢字. I’m also noticed that many pronunciation of words in Japanese also close to Hakka, and I think it’s also easier for native Thai speakers to pronounce words in Hakka or Cantonese than Mandarin. I hope after I finished all of your lessons I will be able to speak basic Hakka.

@@to_cya_ Keep it up. I also learnt Japanese beofre and can do simple conversations but I can speak fluent English and German. Japanese is quite similare to Hakka pronunciations in Chinese character readings and itsgrammar is quite simple too. If you speak Mandarin and Japanese, Hakka is only a piece of cake

Hello, I love to watch your video's. So I can learn of my Hakka roots. Can you also, one day, visit my grand grand parents village? I only know a little bit and don't know when I will be able to go on a journey to the village, because I know only a little. I only know that grand parents and forefathers are from Ten Sim Wai as we say in Donguan Hakka. I heared that most of the villagers went the city Fung Gong or Feng Geng latter mandarin spelling. It should be close to HK and Guangzhou. Would be nice to see how the place is there and the history. And specially, how to get there. Because I don't know how to get there.

I think the village is 田心圍 in Chinese. I hope I can go there to see and make a video.

@@hakkastudies3363 Thank you 🙏 I googled on th chinese characters, it showed the village in Hong Kong. I understood from a cousin that it's not the one in hong kong, it should be near Guangzhou/Guangdong.

@@yongwkee We are living in Holland. And you? I haven't spoke for almost 30years Hakka. I only spoke Hakka with my grandmother and the elderly of her generation. I still can understand most of it.

@@hakkastudies3363 I remember you were once in The Netherlands and spoke with some elderly (from Suriname) in Amsterdam. Can't find the YT video anymore. I know most of our grandparents of the 曾 lastname are from this village, because most of them went to Suriname in the 1920's and 1930's, and also some of them went to Jamaica and Trinidad. Now, almost all of them moved to The Netherlands and Canada. All of that generation are gone, so the Hakka language is also fading away. And also the "guide" where our village is/were, didn't past to this generation is also gone.
