I machined up a couple of tubes the same size as the bolts and welded them between the two worn out holes and didnt have to machine down those plates, same result

Next time grind off the zinc plating on the washers. You will find it will have a much nicer weld and it will be much easier to get the weld to flow. Im going to look at this on my GQ. good video, thanks

Been thinking about how to overcome this Nissan design flaw. The real problem is the flanges are way too thin and the steel way too soft for a double header of fail. For those that don't have that type of Superior arms, the solution could be to fit some caster plates. Use the top front bolt for the radius bush and move the spacer to the bottom. Could also cut the "correction eye" off if suitable tools are available. For added strength, the caster plates could be welded on.

This issue happens to jeeps on the panhard rod they flog out and create a death wobble pretty dangerous such a design flaw for an integral part of the front end. With this fix on the gu, how many kms are you expecting it to last before the washers elongate, and you have to attend to it again? Great video, theraputic watching people machine and fix shit lol.

Why not weld the superior engineering plate? That would've been easier and stronger

I think there was a scene in 1 of the 2018 Tasmania series where we were crawling around the Patrol trying to find it as Nick drove back and forth...

This is defo my clunk also. Ive replaced everything, even bloody body mounts. Is there an easier way with like stacking or crushing washers to get by or shit outta luck and have to weld washers on

One of the big problems is the crush tube in the bush on some after market arms is not long enough an dosent give the flex or movement requirement between the mounts an as they flex they try to spread the mounts apart result is worn crush tubes each end there for allowing it to move starts to wear out hole very common with big bulky arms an the bolts must be tight as f
@einfelder82624 жыл бұрын
The first time I took my Patrol radius arms out was to fit some caster bushes and noticed the holes were already loose. That was at 5000k from brand new. Yep, I reckon Nissan makes them that way. Those plates Nissan put on are way, way too thin for the job. Probably those mounts getting sloppy contributes to the death wobbles too.

I have a knock front left but it’s just the end of the coil spring catching on the rubber pad in the top spring seat. I put rubber grease on it and the knock went away until the grease turned bad now I just ignore it because it’s not causing any damage

Glad you got it sorted. Although I thought it was the chassis end panhard bracket. Did you get much movement under hard braking?
@happymanasfksubaru28463 жыл бұрын
Mine does that what does thats mean
@Sethjxl3 жыл бұрын
@@happymanasfksubaru2846 The chassis end mount for the panhard gets worn out around the bolt over time. The hole for the bolt turns into an oval just like they showed in this video for the radius arm holes. The solution is the same, weld in a plate and drill a new hole. When the bolt for the panhard has play, it will cause the steering to drift left and right on the road and also induce death wobbles.

@@happymanasfksubaru2846 Solid urethane bushes help, but get a mate to push the car side to side and you will see where the movement is.

I would have drilled out the oblong hole to fit the washer flush and welded it in the hole. But we all have different ideas.
@NISMO-OFFROAD4 жыл бұрын
surely taking 4ml out of those plates, isn't the best idea? making them weak were they bolt up?
@einfelder82624 жыл бұрын
Yep, Superior made them that thick for a reason - but even after the mod they are still an order of magnitude stronger than the Patrol flange. I wouldn't have modded them just the same.
@emu4wd4 жыл бұрын
Couldn’t you just get a larger diameter bolt? Or drill out the bracket to accommodate the washer inside? Then it’s flush Steve 🇦🇺
@einfelder82624 жыл бұрын
Access for drilling accurately is pretty much impossible, especially the rear ones. Even if it was possible, the pissweak flanges would elongate again in a heartbeat.
@Mosesk19884 жыл бұрын
Reken crush washers will solve the problem? Need a temp fix.

@@Mosesk1988 If they're soft enough to crush by tightening the nuts, they will be mashed instantly by the forces from the vehicle.

someone should just make weld on plates for these mounts as they are paper thin. im sure mine are stuffed too, havent checked. dont have a garage to play around anymore.
