How to change a radius bush on a Nissan Patrol GQ or GU radius arm without a press. The task should take one hour per side. #havacrack #patrol4WD

Hello, Thanks for sharing. It is amassing how fast those bushes was gone. As it was only 2 years. I have replaced mine year ago and now there is sign of wear. Well, after checking the service manual, the orientation of pressing the bushes into the radius arm is specified with respect to the dot (or mark) that is marked on them. The manual says, the bush that is near to the shock absorber should be pressed while the mark is facing foreword (or front of the car while the arm is installed) and the bush that is at the edge of the arm should be pressed while the mark (or dot) is facing upward. I expect that the dot in the bush indicate the most resistant to movement in a way that the diff housing are not wonted to move, e.g. when a car facing a slight bump, the front bush should resist more vertical movement than the rear bush as the shock will take care of any vertical movement in the back bush. Anyway, your situation is similar to mine as I have not installed the bush according the the manual and the dots are directed randomly and after one year there is sign of wear. On another patrol, there was an annoying hesitation while going over small bumps. I have checked and replaced every thing (including the pushes) and the problem was not solved. I placed another (double) shocks between the chassis and the radius arm for a stronger resistance in addition of the existing shock between the chassis and the diff housing. Accidentally, the hesitation has gone. This reasons and highlights the importance of the direction of installation. Just would like to share my thought and listen to yours in case you have one.

Thanks for the reply. I am going to replace the bushes according to the service manual and give you feedback about the small hesitation while going over a small bumps as I did every thing (body mounts, wheel and king pin bearings, panhard bush, steering dumper, ... ) In addition, we will see how long will the bushes last.

I don't know how people can go to all this trouble and not install new control arms and drop boxes to remove the pin in rubber weakness at the end of the radius arm.

Drop boxes change the design of how the radius arm attaches to the vehicle provided you have the funds to replace the arm. Its a good idea if you are going to that much work to switch them out. Just my opinion, still a great video but I thought id note if for anyone thinking of doing this job.

I understand all that, but it is a known issue in patrols for the bolt at the back of the radius arm to snap. Installing drop boxes allows the join to change and be the same as a landcruiser, removing the risk of breakage. Regardless of lift, a hinge is better than a bolt flexing in rubber.
