Good video. I've been staying in GDL as a student/tourist since mid-June. I would say that around 1 in 10 people speak English here. Not knowing Spanish here will handicap you. Overall I think it's pretty safe - safer than Phoenix, AZ where I lived for 24 years. The worst thing I've seen here was a half-dozen guys in a fist fight. No weapons were involved.

I stayed in Guadalajara for a few days several years back. What I enjoyed most were the restaurants and bars I found when I was there. While there are some cool sites to check out, I found myself getting bored after a few days; where as in Mexico City, I was easily able to spend over a month exploring without running out of things to do. If you're looking for a good day trip out of Guadalajara, consider taking a trip to the town of Tequila.

Even if locals speak English, I would suggest that you make the effort to speak the Spanish. The way to do it is to be over-obsessed with language learning. There´s no other way. That´s how I did it with French when I secured the points for immigration to Canada. Enjoy your time in Mexico!

Booked a trip last week to GDL this coming March. I'm not a nomad, my hospitality industry job requires on site work, but I've been looking forward to making this trip for a while now and it'll only be a week. I've done quite a few trips the past few years to big cities in the Spanish speaking world (CDMX, Bogota, Lima, Buenos Aires, Madrid, Barcelona). I really think, if you're looking for trouble you will find it. All the trips I've had have been no issues because the people I went with weren't and we did our research about where to stay, where to go. Thanks for the heads up on the transport, that was one of my questions. I always check my ubers, I wanted to find out about the city run taxi cabs too because someone was saying ubers are a pain in the butt at the airport because the city taxis have tried to push them out a bit. Can you confirm? Also, first half of the trip is spent in Zapopan near the Andares Mall. Any chance you had time to go there? From what I can tell its upscale.

Thanks for your comment! Totally agree on finding trouble where you look for it. Man the airport question is such a good one, so here’s the thing : you don’t wanna take an Uber from the airport into the city, because like you said, the taxis have won that battle. If you do, you have to walk way far down the street to the Oxxo, and you can grab one there but it’s a little sketchy. It sucks because the taxi from the airport is not cheap, if I remember correctly I paid almost 500 pesos. But worth it IMO. But, you can easily take an an Uber when going BACK to the airport from the city, absolutely no issues there. In regards to the mall, I didn’t get a chance to go but I spent some time in that part of the city and it seemed perfectly fine. I’m going back to GDL in like a week so I’ll do a bit more research! If there’s anything else you think would be good to learn let me know I’ll look into it!

@@Tonksify500MXN for what looks like a 30-40min ride from the airport to our hotel, isn't bad at all. I live near DC, and you'd pay that or more for shorter trips lol There's an official Taxi stand outside the terminals I'm assuming? Yeah, from the videos it looks like the area near the mall is kind of on par to Polanco in CDMX, could be wrong, but I'm expecting the high end stuff to be around there. I think there's a Chivas game on the weekend we're going, do you know the best way to get tickets? Are there tourist groups? In Buenos Aires we did ton of airbnb experiences and one of them was a guided group to a soccer game. I haven't checked yet for GDL. Also, not sure if you've done these, but on my last few trips, I've learned about language exchange meetups, wasn't sure if you were aware of these, they're great for the first day or two to meet people. I got a taste of the idea when I went to Bogota for the first time and learned about Gringo Tuesdays lol Really fun and made connections for the week. Now I look for them on every international trip. I highly recommend them for any traveler for the first time in a city. I'll hit you up if I have any more thoughts before I visit for sure! Thanks for the reponse!

Actually the taxi stand is inside the airport right before you head to the outdoor area, can't miss it 👍 & I'll make it a point to check out the mall next time! The Chivas game I have no idea about, sounds like a cool option tho! I know it's always tricky getting tickets for these things in Latin America The language exchange, hell yes they actually have the exact same thing in Medellin, Gringo Tuesdays 🤣@@polepino such an underrated way to meet people absolutely, actually maybe this is a good idea for a video to show people. ​​@@Tonksify haha yeah GT was such a great time when I visited Bogota for a second time, I had to do it again!! If you ever go to Buenos Aires, I think the biggest one they have is Mundo Lingo over there. It lacks the party atmosphere of GT but it's still a good time, and great meet-up. I also went to a different named event in Barcelona literally called Barcelona Language Exchange . Nothing has beat GT yet tho, it's great they expanded out of Bogotá to Medellín and Cartagena I think. They also headed out the country to Panama and I heard they just added Lima, Perú last week. Im waiting for them to come to the US haha Yeah, I would think for hostel hoppers like yourself, I think a video on language exchange events would be a pro tip! If you wanted come back to GDL in early March, would be open to link 😅 👍🏼
