While looking for a new vehicle and looking for the next chapter in my/our life, I am here in early 2022 discovering these videos, your family's story, and your channel. Here in 2022, I'm chuckling along with you and your daughter as the snow man will not come together... What brought me here -- I am searching for our first 4Runner and the hope that it will become a gateway to a lifetime of memories for my young children. With luck, we'll soon cross paths with y'all and be able to cook you a dinner on the trails. Thank you for sharing what you did back then/here and continue to to do today.

This old video just popped up and it’s a classic. Amazing how your daughter has changed over the years and still loving adventures. Fun watching. I didn’t realize you lived in New Mexico and maybe you moved since this video. We live in Las Cruces and not very far from Lincoln National Forest. Keep adventuring.

THAT scenery is Exactly why we moved here. A-Gordo, with the Sacramento Mtns 300 yards out my back yard. Haven't been down to the Guadalupes yet. Going to have to fund that trail. Some of the roads to Timberon are really nice too.

Great, video, and an even greater adventure! As cheesy as it may sound, she'll remember these adventures forever. Never had a father growing up, but I had an uncle that used to take me on fishing trips and such. I still remember till to this day. And gotta love them Toyotas, I got a 2012 Tacoma Off-Road I'm slowly planning on converting to an Overlander in the near future.

Hey thanks for the comments! We absolutely love sharing these experiences with her. She is one heck of a traveler and has an unbelievable spirit of adventure. That's awesome that you had someone willing to invest in you growing up. I think everyone needs that and a taste of the outdoors. Sounds like you have the perfect overland platform, are you a member on www.overlandbound.com forums? Great community for support and inspiration. See you on the trail someday!

Yeah, we would go to Mammoth Lakes, and the all up the Sierras, here in California. I'm just on TacomaWorld for now. I already spend too much. I'm not too sure my wallet can handle spending even more money on my truck, ha. But I will certainly check it out. Well hope you and the family make more videos, -take care.

I really enjoy the Guadalupe's. On the other side somewhere near the Brokoffs I saw a badger. Had no idea they were even around there. Sometime you should drive up Lookout Mountain near Las Cruces. I got to the steep part near the summit but quit because my buddy got scaaaart. I think your 4.88s would do better than my 3.73s on it. There are some other 4x4 roads around there too to explore.

Very nice! I want go get a 4runner my self. I currently have a Tacoma but made the mistake of getting a 2wd. :(
@LifestyleOverland8 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much! There's a lot you can do in a 2WD so long as you keep your limitations in mind and travel with others if you plan on getting into some nasty areas. Enjoy it while you save up for something 4WD!

I currently have a GX 460 and will be also getting a Tundra soon. I am in NJ/Somers Point. I have spent more than a decade doing nothing but working and no play. I would really appreciate recommendations for family activities like this. My kids have and get everything they need/want. But I am realizing that is not always the most important ( I hope that makes sense). Thank you in advance.

+Anthony Perez Totally get where you're coming from. We made the choice a few years ago to downsize our footprint and expenses so we could live this lifestyle and hopefully instill a sense of wonder and adventure in our daughter as she grows up. We have learned that real value isn't in the things we have, or money in the bank, but in the experiences we share as a family. If your looking to start your own family in the overland lifestyle I suggest finding a good community to learn and grow with. No better place to start than www.overlandbound.com and their forums which have tons of folks from all backgrounds and skill levels looking to do just what you are asking about. From there, you'll be able to plug into groups and individuals in your location to travel and learn with.

Awesome video, looks like a great time. I know the video is old...so you might not respond. But is the forest service the best resource for maps? I am not finding much information about the off-roading routes in GRD. Forest Service website doesn't say anything really about "jeep trails". Using GAIA I can see many 'jeep roads', so I was think of taking 137 and starting with Klondike Gap and checking it out, maybe Hooper Canyon and Hog Spring, then continue east and do the same, looks like several out and backs and only a few loops. A big loop of course would be nice. Planning 3 nights dispersed off the back roads in leveled 4Runner TRD ORP. Any suggestions?
@LifestyleOverland4 жыл бұрын
We always download the MVUM PDFs from the "Maps and Publications" tab of the forest we're traveling. Also, check out www.gaiagps.com/lifestyleoverland for some videos on our favorite mapping software as well as a discount if you go that route.
@EricBurns19704 жыл бұрын
@@LifestyleOverland appreciate it. Yes, MVUM from FS and Gaia help! I have my route planned and heading there on Thurs, 1 night at Pine Spring in TX, then up to Lincoln. Great videos!

I really enjoy watching your videos. I video our camping trips here and there with my Gopro. What do you use to film for such a steady video? I noticed on your Enchanted trail trip how you or your wife were moving the camera around from the window to inside the car and it was so smooth. Wanted to improve my videogrophy while car is moving. Thanks for the awesome videos. Look forward to more.

+Brooke Bruno Hey thanks for watching! So we ending up switching to a Canon XA30 camcorder which has excellent stabilization. We also use our Samsung S6 phones on occasion which also do a great job on bouncy roads. P.S. Sorry for the delayed response, we just got back from running the Mojave Road!

Really stupid question as I've never been offroading... are all of these trails one-way? What happens if you encounter someone coming back down the trail?
@LifestyleOverland7 жыл бұрын
+CJ Paul Almost all of them are two-way, though there are a few that are one-way across the country. Typically the uphill traffic has the right-of-way but generally the vehicle closest to a wide spot or pull off lets the oncoming traffic by. Just depends on the situation.
