GUAGIBO is an early project of Greek producer George Liberidis AKA WEIRDELIC.
Born in 1980 in Athens, George was raised in a music environment as his father was a drummer. From early on he showed an interest to electronic sounds and started attending parties in Greece as early as 1994. Three years later, he witnessed the first Goa Gathering in Greece at Porto Koufo, an event that pushed him to build his own studio and produce Psychedelic Trance music.
His first compositions were made in 1998, using Commodore Amiga, Qbase1, a Midi Controler, an Akai Sampler, Reason, and later Ableton. His productions were melodic, danceable and ‘romantic’, echoing the pioneering works of Koxbox, Hallucinogen, Blue Planet Corporation, Slinky Wizard, Psychaos, and Total Eclipse, among others. Throughout the years, George extended his influences to a variety of psy-trance styles portrayed by Texas Faggott, Salakavala, Squaremeat, Ollie Olsen, Nick Taylor, Andrew Till, Rip Van Hippy and famous artists of the Japanese scene.
George borrowed the name ‘Guagibo’ from a voice sample used by Juno Reactor in the track ‘Badimo’, released in the ‘Shango’ album. Its meaning, ‘spirit of the forests’, had a direct inspiration in the fabric of his unique groovy psychotic style. He performed live at various underground clubs and outdoor parties and he had the privilege of playing next to famous acts such as Hux Flux and Color Drops/Fullcolor at Corfu and other places in Greece.
