The Gap is a window into different lives and different generations.
Two people, from different age groups, discuss a shared experience that impacted their lives, how it affected them and how they dealt with it to ultimately emerge stronger.
In this episode, Moazzam Begg (51) and Emmanual Samson (27) compare their experiences of being detained without trial.
Moazzam Begg was seized by the CIA in his home in Afghanistan, before being detained in the Bagram Theatre Internment Facility and the Guantanamo Bay detainment camp in Cuba for nearly three years.
Emmanuel spent 90 days detained in an Immigration Centre, fearing every day that he was about to be deported to Nigeria, a place he hadn’t seen since he was 13 years old.

Very true. Moazzam goes into his story in more detail in the BBC Storyville documentary “The Confession” that came out in 2016. He also authored a book called “Enemy Combatant” and there are loads of videos on KZbin you can find if you just search “Moazzam Begg Guantanamo”. Loads of videos on the “CAGE” channel on KZbin as well. Hope that helps!

You’ve got to be extremely blind to reality if you think the USA and the UK are good countries. How they’ve obtained wealth is through pure acts of evil which they are proud of and justify it too this day. But they want to pretend to be the worlds’s defenders of morals. Yet they refuse to give justice to those they have wronged. They will fall the same way they rose.

The "interrogators" are trained/programmed at military sites and conduct "enhanced interrogations" around the globe, knowing full well, the individuals will not be able to provide useful information. Tactics are not just reserved for combat zones either; and black site prisons were built after 2001. Thanks to Bush and Obama, any regular American can be taken and subjected to horrific brainwashing/torture, and it is likely many individuals currently in suffering from severe mental illness who claim they were harmed deliberately have been telling the truth all along. Nearly 90 patriotic Americans are still in prison today, subjected to the same horrors, merely for showing up to a planned peaceful protest calling for an end to abusive laws/policies that defy the Constitution and our rights as citizens.

The story of that poor Afghan taxi driver broke my heart. How evil is it when the person being brutally tortured and beaten to death has no knowledge of why this is happening to him. After they killed that innocent soul in twisted assumptions of him being a threat, turns out he was innocent and it was already too late. Keeping him shackled for days in that painful position only God knows what's happening w other ppl like him who are going through this. This world is cruel and I hate USA

In reference to the gentleman that was detained in Guantanamo Bay, it disgusts me as an American citizen to hear things like this. I'm very proud of my country and the good that we do in the world, but No amount of good could make up for the horrible things we get away with. And yes, I know we're not the only country doing these types of things and that there's certain things that have to take place to protect our land as well as other places against horrible people, but this just isn't it. If anyone reads this, please believe that we're not all like this. The VAST majority of citizens, natural born as well as immigrants that have become US citizens, are very kind and helpful people. I hope that isn't totally lost on everyone because of the few that are the opposite. Also, I don't think the channel could have found 2 more well spoken and genuinely kind people to have this conversation with each other in front of the camera. Next, do a Guantanamo Bay detainee meets ex Guantanamo Bay soldier. (EDIT: I found this just after watching this video where the Guantanamo Bay detainee actually DOES sit down with a soldier, one that ACTUALLY guarded him too, and it's worth the watch. kzbin.info/www/bejne/pZbXd2l9h76HkKM ) Lastly, I just read that President Biden is already in plans to close Guantanamo Bay within the near future. Sorry for the long post everyone.

The problem is there most definitely is an element of guilty people. However like with any war, to get to those guilty people there are always a number of innocent people that get caught up, or killed along the way. The question is, are those innocent lives worth the sacrifice to combat the greater enemy? Its a hard and brutal question but I don't believe we will ever be in a position where innocent people don't get caught up somewhere along the line. We have to tred a fine line between being effective in combating terrorism or the enemy, and minimising innocent casualties.
