The old man was wearing the regimental tie for the Brigade of Guards. The regimental colors were also on the man's hat band. As such the young Kings Guard would certainly have recognized the old man as a veteran of the Brigade of Guards and deserving of respect. In the UK, one does not wear a regimental tie unless you served with that regiment.

One child said but when I did that the lady didn't say thankyou and let the door fall back on me !!!! Indeed I held open a door for a group of ladies who all swept through and not one thankyou !!!!As the last one went through I was driven to point out I wasn't paid to do it but it fell on stony ground !!!!NOT ladies !!!

Beautifully said. I used to get the same feeling when I would accompany my then 70 year old dad to air shows at MCAS Cherry Point, a U S Marine Corps Air Base in North Carolina. We would sit next to the barriers at the flight line and my dad would engage the 18-19 yoa Marines standing watch at the barriers. Those kids would hang on every word that dad or one of his old Marine buddies said. There truly is a brotherhood. Just like the Guards, once a Marine, always a Marine.

I knew a couple of Septics from our service in the first Gulf War. After I was medically discharged from the Army and left on the train platform in a wheelchair, they bought me a plane ticket to SF, rented a bungalow for me to recuperate in and then when I was well enough they got me a job to help me stay in the country. I remember as a child, being taken to see the carrying on at horseguards parade, i thanked the guards at the time for their service. Later on we went to the Royal Tournament and met the men and their horses in their stalls afterwards, spoke to some of the soldiers and gave a carrot to his horse, this was in about 1958

My late father, a Grenadier guard, in later years always wore a straw hat. He raised this hat to women when he was out and about. This video brought back so many memories of how different life was back then. Respect and good manners were a natural way of life. He always dressed smartly and wore his regimental tie! After serving in WW2 for five years in North Africa with the military police he then served on the police force for thirty years. Many memories indeed.

I wrote of my family dating back to my grandmother's era. I often think about those times, and people ask me if I would consider publishing this memoir. I am not at all confident that anyone would want to read this account however. I am in my eighties now and an always afraid of boring everyone! Thank goodness for our good (and sometimes bad), memories.

I love the respect shown between the old and the young soldiers. I am curious, how did the young guard recognized the gentleman, cause he saluted the gentleman as soon as he saw him. I'm assuming that he is well-known amongst the troops cause I didnt see that he was wear something to indicate that he was a retired Kings Life Guard. I was pleased that no tourists interrupted their chat. Someone else made a comment regarding manners and holding doors open for another person. I live in Canada and I regularly hold doors open for people and most of the time I get a thank you. If I dont hear a thank you I often say loud enough for the person to hear "your welcome", but that usually doesn't change this person's lack of manner. Its the same with the tourists in these videos, someone is taking a picture of another person and someone will walk right up and plant themselves for their picture directly in front of the others. Talk about rude. Sometimes people's actions are just really sad and pathetic. Love watching these videos. 🇨🇦

It certainly shows up the disrespect and rudeness of a vast majority of the tourists. I’m sure someone will put me right because I don’t know their remit but a lot of the police seem to do an awful lot of slouching around and talking which looks to be in contrast with the correctness and smartness of the soldiers. I don’t think those awful baseball caps help. Also when they’re just lolling around in the courtyard to my mind anything could be happening out there on the pavement. It may be how it’s organised but personally I think it’s all too casual.

They're MoD Police - known as MoD Plod. On a par if not slightly below British Transport Police, and usually way down the list when it comes to those joining the police who will usually have been rejected by "territorial" police forces first and join MoD Plod as a last resort before becoming a security guard or traffic warden.

I love seeing how soldiers from different parts of the world who are near the castle show mutual respect with the soldiers of the royal guard, some will think they are ridiculous or something like that but it is quite difficult to be one and be able to earn so much money, it must be a privilege to be a soldier and to be able to serve the highest representation of your country, in this case the English monarchy. I am a Spanish Republican and my ideology should make me hate them but I admire them, especially their patience and discipline.

A fine gentleman with some manners and a sense of mutual respect. Respect is bandied about far too frequently and often confused with common courtesy. Respect is earned. The days of tipping hats (apart from His Majesty at Ascot, which was really rather engaging), opening doors, standing up when a woman enters the room and so on.

I believe the older gentleman is one of the senior regemental officers if you notice at the end of the conversation he says "right carry on" which is not generally said unless your an officer
