Someone tries to help and the authorities sniff at them. Not only won't they do their job competently they actually try to bring someone else down because they feel shown up in their mediocrity when they try to help and freely contribute without recompence. So much for the newsman. You could tell by his condescending tone that he didn't approve. Then again he will probably have a safe drive home in his Jaguar instead of having to catch a train on a dark winter's night. And today things are even less safe. It's time to bring them back.

I've never met a Guardian Angel protector in person but at least I can say that if there's even just one Guardian Angel volunteer on the same train, then you know for certain there is a 'Good Samaritan' at hand in case some thug tries to mess with you. The Guardian Angel volunteers work in small groups so if some thug tries to assault you, he will be set upon by several Good Samaritans. Go watch the movie, "The Incident", 1968, where two thugs terrorize a New York underground subway car and get away with it because the riders are too terrified to resist. Finally, an active duty U.S. Army serviceman stands up to the two bullies. Even his Army buddy won't get involved. He gets stabbed in the side for his trouble but he still puts both thugs down on the floor. The movie ends with the train stopping and NYC cops stepping inside the car. Imagine if there were at least two Guardian Angel volunteers on that subway car, even though the movie was filmed long before the creation of the Guardian Angels.

The Guardian Angels disappeared back to America by 1990. They were only in London for a couple of years - arriving in 1988. British people never really took to their alternative style, and 'vigilante' methods, preferring to approach a Police Officer because they were 'official'. The irony is that almost 35 years later, the GA would probably be much more successful in London, because the reputation of the Met Police is so low now....at an all time low. Many people don't trust the Police anymore and would definitely approach a GA now, without hesitation. Cases such as the Sarah Everard one destroyed many people's trust in the Police in London. So were the GA to come back to London now, attitudes towards them would be alot different. They would be welcomed more and not avoided like they were by many Underground users back in the late 80's.

@@MCCOLDT ...I was thinking more along the lines of them being corrupt to the point of some deliberately not recording everything down in a case, or tampering with evidence ....and being more mysogynistic than you would expect in 2022. But if this makes me 'woke' then maybe I am woke - never considered myself to be or given it much thought until now.... But yeah, the Police now are generally not great, so GA's may be more trusted now were they to return to London. Final point - Are the Police more racist now than they were in the late 80's? ... probably not, but the difference is now alot of white men don't trust them either. I am a white man, and had total faith in the Met until the Sarah Everard case. Now though I find myself thinking are all of them really people you can trust or are some thoroughly untrustworthy, and actually nasty pieces of work....like Wayne Cousens was.
