Deputy commissioner of the Australian federal police, Ian McCartney, has responded to a Victorian children's court magistrate's finding that police encouraged an autistic 13-year-old boy in his fixation on Islamic State after his parents sought help from the authorities. The undercover operation was 'a decision I didn't take lightly', McCartney told a Senate committee. Greens senator David Shoebridge accused the AFP of 'radicalising' the boy, who had an IQ of 71, calling it an 'obscene abuse of power'
