He's able to write his sad story as if it's something funny, but I couldn't help myself and cried many times because I'm a mother and grandma, so I understand and feel his mother's pain and courage. She's too brave and gave us this beautiful gift. Please read the book because it adds meaning to your life.

As a coloured South African I feel that Trevor Noah has a lot of hurts he is not talking about. He grew up without his Dad because of Apartheid. As he said : born a crime. His family around him was black. At a certain age he became aware of the fact that he was different. But at no time could he ever have been considered to be white. Because Trevor was well educated his Swiss father most probably paid for that. He certainly did not grow up in poverty in spite of living in Soweto.
@zoep.2891
@zoep.2891 6 ай бұрын
@roslyngraf1737: Tevor Noah himself stated the he grew up poor, so don't jump to conclusions, only because his father is a white European.
@roslyngraf1737
@roslyngraf1737 6 ай бұрын
@@zoep.2891 Trevor just like my sons whose father is Swiss & my three cousins too: should not have grown up poor. All have turned out very well inspite of that. No thanks to the Fathers, but the South African Mums. There is no bitterness, but it was not right. It was much more difficult for Trevor because his Mother was Black. My Aunt & I : coloured. Being a coloured in Switzerland can also be just as difficult as it was in Durban.

For instance, his total giggly delight at Trevor's story of his grandmother believing that praying in English would render better results, due to white ppl's experiences. @brad O Oh! And I see you deleted your reply. Must have became ashamed of your Reply after I replied to your nonsensical reply. Well again. There are STARK DISTINCTIONS why, how, and for what White Europeans and Americans forced, chained, and shackled Afrcans. Then slung into unimaginable squalor synonymous to sardines in a can. And upon arrival Africans transitioned expeditiously from Africans to culturally "American" AfroAmericans. And it's an inane absurdity not to reference the difference. Crosses the borders of the nonsensical. The forced removal of African slaves to America and experiences thereafter becoming "American" AfroAmericans (Africans are not "American" AfroAmericans. And Africa for centuries has no longer been "American" AfroAmericans homeland. That's fallacious as saying England is United States homeland. The present historic "American" AfroAmerican arrival is exponentially disparate from the arrivals of latter day none compulsory entry of Africans into The United States. In fact, the latter day arrivals of Africans into the United States in noticeable numbers of notice. Is due to the "American" AfroAmericans Black Civil Rights Movement. Hopefully you will now realize the simplicity of your reply.

How wonderful to have a mom like that, my mom was a professor and she didn’t teach me anything, in fact she treated me like I was inferior and undeserving, didn’t even buy me clothes or combed my hair before school. Didn’t protect me from abuse from my siblings, I am darker than my siblings and also the youngest. Thank goodness my best friends mom taught me everything In my early years and ironed my uniform and braided my hair with ribbons. The second best influence was my piano teacher who since age five, taught me confidence and accomplishment. My angels. So I grow up and i realised that it was an eclipse. With bit of research Apparently that day was 1st October 1940 and he was 18 coz he was born in july 1922. I have so much respect for you Trevor, I am white, raised in foster care, so i never understood racism and/or never understood until i was in my teen years that it even existed. Now I am almost 60 yrs old , and am struggling to explain this to my 40 year old son. Sigh. Please don't ever change who you are. You are an exceptional person with a truly exceptional view of our relationships and how they affect us, each and everyone. I will continue to learn from you and enjoy your humor forever. :)

Ammara Shah Did would be the word to notice in your statement!!! I have seen people from Britain do the same! Some of it would be expectations of the person from their culture controlling one's behavior or not if their culture is more lax or laid back! BUT it still depends on the individual, whether or not they're a good listener, and then again it can also depend on time constraints set up in advance, and/or whether or not the interviewer likes or doesn't like or expects or not the answer given either, as well as if they just needed or wanted the short answer! Regardless no matter who or why it is rude!! This is an awesome interview! Great questions, great answers! It would have been cool to know whether or not the girl/woman had contacted him after the book was written!!! Lol!!!😀 If you haven't read this book I highly recommend it! I have over 600 E-books and numerous hardbacks! I have also read a large number of paperback novels, usually romance from the time I was 13 to know! My Mum started us out on reading to us when I was 5! They would be various chapter books from which she would read several chapters a night to us at bedtime! The Hardy Boys, Nancy Drew series, Little House books, there is more than the little house on the Prairie if one is a fan of that/those tales which were based on fact, such as Little House in the Big Woods if I recall correctly which is also good! Anyhoo, this book, Born a Crime, based on true events, is an amazingly well told story of Trevor's life growing up! Purchasing it on Amazon as an e-book saved me money over a nook purchase! I didn't check other avenues, but be sure to do so to get the best price especially if on a tight budget!!!

@Scott Stapp Or maybe it's you that has limited experience with comedy if you're seriously comparing Shane Dawson with Trevor Noah. I am a fan of Shane Dawon's too, but let's get realistic. Shane Dawson does (or did) edgy humor. Trevor Noah does political humor. Also, if you knew anything of Shane Dawson, you would be well aware that he tends to avoid anything political like it's the plague. So, why the hell put him in the same league as Trevor Noah when he wants to avoid politics? Doesn't make sense. If you're going to compare Trevor Noah to other comedians, at least do it with people that do the same type of humor as him like John Stewart, Steven Colbert, Seth Meyers, or Jimmy Kimmel. Shane Dawson is more like Pewdiepie (at least, they used to with both being into edgy humor).

Oh and is it phenomenal how it's an African man who came to the West, and is teaching them how it is to live harmoniously with each other- on their own turf. When Trevor mentioned that Woody Allen once said that 80% of your success is just showing up Well I got my aha moment there. Woody Allen shows up every morning in front of his typewriter he's very disciplined and in my opinion with plenty of Common Sense I watched him in an interview one time when they were asking him about his agenda for the day. He shows up and sits in front of his typewriter and writes everyday would love to see Trevor collaborate with him and options book into a movie and have Woody Allen get some valuable input and take on a major role and helping Trevor make this endeavor become a dream come true. @@stupidtreehugger lol, you must have spammed a lot of comments with your hatefulness, eh, buddy? You must have so much hatred in your heart. That's sad and I feel sorry for you. I hope that can change for you one day.

Love Trevor. He’s very bright. He has a gift in how he tells his stories entertaining us, making us laugh while at the same time being sobering insightful. He is where he needs to be. He gets it. I love listening to what he has to say. He acknowledges he has been privileged with a life experience that has given him a perspective that deserves and needs to be shared.
