Your mom probably felt the same as you, that she'd be a great mother. Then something happened and changed that. If you've been hurt or disappointed, you have to forgive in order to move on. To move past that negativity. Hurt people will hurt people, so forgive her, honor her, simply for the birth. It's what God tells us to do. He didn't say; honor you parents if they're good parents, he says honor them so that your life will be extended on the earth. Try saying; "I'm going to be a great mother", without putting down your mother. With love.

Listening to this interview, the realization slowly came to me that Trevor’s “talent” of mastering different accents actually is his life survival skill, growing in the society that was (probably still is) divided by races, skin colours, and languages. Accent is probably one of the skill that could allow him to blend in, be the “insider”, be accepted, be liked. There are a lot of things about this man to be liked about and respected. Refreshing, inspiring and down to earth! Keep up the good work Trevor!

I am thankful because of the choices she made and pushed me I am alive and well today. I am 50 and I feel that my life today is because of the things my mom instilled in me in the short time she was with us. She didn't sugar coat anything and she was a strong disciplinary and I left home at 16.5 and because of the way I was raised I grew up and never blamed my parents for the choices I made. This has been one of the best if not the best of all interviews I've seen of Trevor Noah thanks to the Senator and all involved... Very detailed and well presented, got me to love Trevor Noah a lot more... At 0:39 the lady presenting the event made a mistake of showing her failure to alert her child that the system *did* exist before in America... Right now what exists is the ripple effects of previously having such systems, just like most countries in the world. The Laws are not designed for segregation anymore but when she told her child that it will never happen in America, she should have said it has happened before, and people are still trying to cope with the aftermath...

I first found Trevor Noah just looking for comedy to lift my spirits back before he was even on the Daily Show, instantly LOVED him! Kept looking for more from him from that point so was SO happy when he was chosen for Daily Show, knew he was perfect! More than perfect because of his outside unique view. Love when uses African anything to compare with American issues, even more so that he is very aware and experienced with so many other cultures that he can bring them into the picture. I am American (born in Germany) who's formative years were in Hawaii (in 1970's was quite different than Mainland), raised by Spaniard and German turned American when he joined Navy in 1950's, so very much appreciate the diversity (and relate in some ways), he brings to us. I can say, seriously, that even still as an African citizen, I would kick Trump (or Clinton) out in a second to have President Noah instead, seriously! He is that impressive!

Trevor is finding fault with the President of America.Why doesn't he address the issue of all the money that the Black ANC Prime Minister of South Africa stole! The black government in South Africa is doing the same to all the citizens of SA, that the Apartheid government did. President Trump is trying hard to get rid of people who are living illegally in America and who are not working and contributing to the upkeep of the country, but yet they are getting free handouts from the government! I so admire Trevor Noah for giving an immense amount of credit to his wise mom. "The book," is really "a love letter to my mom." Good man, Trevor. (On a strictly shallow level, I've yet to observe a child born of a mixed racial couple who isn't superbly good looking.) It's my hope that it won't be long before mixed marriages become the norm--there are any number of reasons to mix up the gene pool and take out the skin colour factor. Although I've never been subject to cruelty because I had the "wrong" skin colour. I learned a good lesson when I was just a little girl. Having been born into a white community, I had never seen a person of any colour other than my own. One evening, my parents took me to the drive-in movies (yep, I'm now that old) to see the "Jackie Robinson Story." The depiction of how Mr. Robinson was treated by so many people was a shocker. I could barely watch many of the scenes and sobbed all the way home. What a lasting impression it left on me. To this day, I find it unfathomable that anyone with half a heart could inflict such cruelty on another human being. Then as I grew older and learned about the history of slavery, the KKK, the "hoods" and prisons (then and now), I became more enraged. If only every one would take to heart the Golden Rule which to my mind should make it impossible to be so ignorantly oppressive toward those with different coloured skin--or religion for that matter. Every single race of people deserves respect, food, shelter, clothing, good health care, and a sound liberal education (K-12) for these are the bare necessities that we ALL need to thrive. We could do with more progressive leaders who would be willing to serve their country on a humanitarian basis. With all the wealth "out there," there is no reason (other than greed and a grab for power) to leave anyone behind. Trump and his ilk be damned!!

Ann, I am an old white male and wanted to express my sincere empathy with your response to Trevor. I too was horrified by the Jackie Robinson Story, it has affected me for years. Good luck to you and yours.

@ G. Hill ...Thank you. Oh to have more empathetic people in the world like yourself. Actually, we both know there are many of like mind, but we'll need a critical mass before anything substantially positive is achieved. Kindest thoughts for you and your family?

You brought me to uncontrollable tears. I was a victim of domestic abuse from my family and my ex husband and my family still gaslight their part in all I also tried to get help before things got to the worst point and now I'm having to decide whether to ruin a person's life or not have them take responsibility for their crime. I just want this person to be helped but really at one point there was no place to go.
@sarahrowan39463 жыл бұрын
The person who was hurting you, who you are worried about hurting, already had a ruined life because they came from a bad place to have they caused all that misery. You're not ruining their life because they did that to you. They now need to take responsiblity for it, and you're a strong person to get this taken care of.

There is a program in Ottawa Ontario that aims to have the abusers take responsibility and to learn how their actions have possibly 'destroyed' their partner. The courts send them to a 12 week course, which they have to pay for and must attend (Even if a daytime course is all that's available), called "New Directions." Perhaps you can contact the creators of the program: Counselling and Family Services Ottawa. Jeff is the person there that you want to contact. They have the program on a CD; however, go one step further and get the program started in your area(?). Upon SUCCESSFUL completion of the program, the abuser will spend no time in jail and will not have a record (As long as they don't reoffend within a specific time period). Sometimes, they are given a second chance to take the course. Personally, I feel that should be the limit of chances. Unfortunately, some judges here still don't comprehend the damage the abusers have done to their partner(s) and give them more chances! If the abusers don't 'get it' after two times completing the course, I don't believe they will ever stop their own behaviours. But, that's just my opinion.

Jennifer Yearwood umm no one said it isn’t. He lived in apartheid and his mother’s story is unbelievable. His wisdom is a byproduct of those experiences
@101cutedimond4 жыл бұрын
Jennifer Yearwood no one is saying otherwise. I dont know how you reach that much from me positively acknowledging someone’s brilliance and thoughtfulness. Ridiculous that you are suggesting anything else. He is a tv personality and is one of the few men that is so wise about the world. I am, if anything, saying he is an exception to the rule of political talk shows.

The suffering of Trevor Noah was just like the cross Jesus was made to carry!! Like every human being, everyone has own cross to bear, only the weight varies!! Some give up and others manage to reach their destinations in one piece!! Congrats to Trevor, he made it!!

This distinction is so powerful to help set people mentally free from hiding, who might feel shame due to being victimized by the terrible choice someone else made that was beyond their control: It is not the shame of the victim, it is the shame of the perpetrator. SHINE THE LIGHT. Trevor is a walking light shining. Damn...Acknowledge where you are. That is powerful! We live in an insane world. We can remain sane regardless of present moment conditions by imagining the world we want by living it inside ourselves, creating it beforehand in our minds and living in it now as if it is already so. Trevor is an amazing role model for us all. What he is sensitive to, conscious of and how he shows us by example a brilliant way to live and be in the world. Long live this brilliant, loving man who brings so much joy and laughter, kindness and care to a world in pain. Thank you, bless you, much respect to you Mr. Trevor Noah!
