My grandfather took me there when I was 5 years old before we got close he told me what it was all about . He told me that we were to be silent and to remain standing as a matter of respect for the unknown soldier . I'm 59 but I still remember that day and how honored I felt to be there , I remember how peaceful it was to be there .

This past week I visited Arlington National Cemetary for the first time and I was in awe of these soldiers. The first guard I saw was so precise so perfect I honestly thought for a moment that he was a robot. I visited for two days and watch the changing of the guard at least 6 times and all were perfect. Watching these soldiers made me feel emotions I did not know I even had. I am a Veteran and I am annoyed with myself for not having visited sooner. If you can go to Arlington you will not be disappointed.

This is beautiful. Thank you for sharing this video. Brings tears to my eyes to think of all those who died in service to our country -- names & faces that may have been lost to the history books -- even women & children who followed their husbands/fathers on the battlefield & through the woods during the civil war, because there was nothing for them back home... So many faces, beating hearts, with courage & fear & tears & pain, but filled with hope because they believed in what America stood for. Let us honor them in our lives each day by celebrating the freedoms we have today...by never forgetting. Praise & respect to the Guards. You are amazing human beings & an inspiration to little boys & girls & people everywhere! May the Lord bless you & keep you always. Peace be with you all.

To put it simply, the tomb houses a soldier that was killed during wwi. He was not able to be identified. He gave his life, but the country he fought for will never know his name. The tomb is dedicated to honoring all of those who risk their lives to protect us, and is guarded so the unknown soldier will never be disturbed.

@@majorlaff8682 _I don't know if you are actually ignorant or just a troll. But let me try to educate you. If the soldiers hair was not "neat, tidy, and respectable" she would not make to the tomb for guard duty. The soldiers who guard the tomb have strict standards(stricter than the average military) and it they are not met they will not be able to perform their duty. I am a Veteran and you do not understand the military at all much less these elite soldiers who guard the Tomb of The Unknown Soldier. There are not “girly” soldiers- soldiers are soldiers and what you consider "neat, tidy, and respectable" is of no consequence to the soldiers who defend your right to spew your foolishness in the comments section.
