After scouring the web for video footage from the 2016 Major General's Review by a long way this is the best we've seen or heard! You've captured an excellent stereo soundtrack and combined it with a professionally edited video component. Thank you as well for including the content list, which is very helpful! Please keep up the good work, we appreciate your sharing it with us!

Thanks so much for posting this, two of my Dad''s marches feature, very moving to hear these rousing marches still being played by Guards bands some 75 yrs on. .. Sarafand I believe was a transit camp in Palestine where he was stationed.. David Willcocks

Like you David feel so proud and everytime I hear any of his music and I crank the volume up to full whack, the day of trooping my neighbours must dislike me!!🎺🎷🎺

I remember the name Willcocks from my time as an apprentice at a firm in Dagenham. Would there be any connection? If that was your Dad, he was very much missed.

Abraham Codpiece I think my uncle David Willcocks can answer this better than I can! But grandad did work at ford at Dagenham and conducted the Ford Motor Works Band.

Go watch the US military bands. Especially the DC service bands. Make these bands sound like HS kids at best.

Loaded Shit . There is always one that thinks that he or she is better than everybody else. The USA military bands are good,but NOt that good compared to the British Military Bands, Mainada!
@loadedbass71116 жыл бұрын
riotagus No you’re loaded shit. The United States is known for having the top premier military band. Listen to the Presidents Own marine band and you wouldn’t be making blanket statements like that. The brass here is very blatty trombones sound like something out of a steel factory. The best thing of these bands are the woodwinds. Again listen to the Washington DC bands and you’ll hear great blend impeccable clarity and the cleanest sounds out of bands. Fwiw
@riotagus6 жыл бұрын
Loaded shit I suppose you being an American, you can do things better than everybody else, right? The British were doing this kind of thing looong before America existed. I believe you when you said the United States is known to have top premier military bands, but its' only know in America. The UK is well known all over the World for its Military Bands. By the way, i haven't nothing against the Americans, just the ones that thinks they are above everybody else.

Rubbish, they are hand picked Clydesdale cross, stand 16.3 aprox, picked for their temperament, take 18 mnths to train, the drummer gives the horse a short tap on the drums as a warning before they play so not to startle it..... and get thrown off!
@thies78317 жыл бұрын
The Clydesdales are having hearing aids implanted, playing even louder than the drums "The Greatest Hits of the Rolling Stones and AC/DC"...

Probably a dumb question but can anyone explain why the Drum Majors carry their maces in different ways. I do understand and have watched many videos to admire and understand many of the commands that are relayed through the mace. However one bit of information has eluded me so far, for example at 0:04 the Drum Major is pacing with the mace, at 0:48 the Drum Major is carrying it across his chest and at 1:26 the mace is carried horizontally (I assume this is because the band is not playing). So, my question is who decides on which way they will be carried when marching and why? Any responses much appreciated. Oh yes, and a great video by the way :-)
@seagraver8 жыл бұрын
Each are different methods of carry that may be used. The first, is called the "State Walk". It is used for ceremonial and state occasions. It is used on the Queen's Birthday Parade when entering and leaving barracks and when each band at the head of its regiment marches down the approach road to Horse Guards for the Troop. Drum majors are permitted to use the State Walk on other occasions in order "add to the splendor" of the occasion . The second, is known simply as the "carry". It is used when the band is playing at the march. The drum major swings his free arm at the quick march, but not at the slow. The third, is the "trail", which is used in both slow and quick time while the band is not playing. Both arms are swung at the quick march while the mace is kept parallel to the ground. While trailing at the slow march, the drum major's arms do not swing at all.
